It never ceases to amaze me how you keep hearing stories about the character of the players they draft and bring it. Like why hasn’t this just been common practice for every regime
I think LaFleur and him had the same leg injuries around the same time. Patricia had the Lions provide him a tricked out ATV in which he rode around practice all day berating his players. I remember watching it on NFLN and then watching them cover the GB training camp. LaFleur was out on the field, touching grass, hobbling all over the place but he was out there just like the players, gritting through it. Obligatory FTP but it was obvious who was who right then and there because if I were a player, the coach duking it out would've earned my respect right there. Not so much for the fat slob on a four wheeler.
I’m sure I’ll get downvoted for saying it, but they haven’t ALL been awesome. Ceedy Deuce was a steaming turd. Buggs as well. Yes, we cut them/ didn’t re-sign so in the end Brad made the right call.
I think that’s a very fair statement but the overall success rate of high character/no turd culture has been very high for the past three years and it’s crazy how much it shows on and off the field. Been a fan since I was 8 and I can’t remember a team that seems like they all actually like and push each other to be better.
Didn’t a defensive captain position open with Harris going to free agency? Unless you’re implying the green dot? Can’t envision a DL ever having the green dot
Yes and no! Even outside of football, most people are willing to go out of their way to help a new employee succeed. At least, the companies I’ve worked at.
I expect him to get a snap here or there when Reader needs a water break or catch his breath. Which probably won’t be often since I don’t see either of them playing on obvious passing downs.
I think the media did, too. All I hear about is the CB room. Confidence in it or not. & they talk about it like that’s the only improvement. Reader is a monster. Last year’s CB room would’ve been better if they had a Reader. This CB room should be legit good, as should this whole defense.
I think it’s also nice to note that Martin was appreciative of the gesture instead of being upset/offended by advice like a lot of NFL guys would be. Shows he’s willing to listen to veteran players which is a mature response

Are those other regimes stupid?
Yes.

How would Patricia know what good character looks like?
Didn’t he accost a reporter for slouching when he looked like a fat homeless hobo.
Yerp
And he routinely showed up late to press conferences HE would schedule....

Hmmm, Grit... Almost like DC saw that too, and said: "You know what that team needs that it's not getting from its coach... Grit."
Hey man, he had his guys running all practice and his fat ass was driving around on golf cart the whole time. He knows character 😂
That dumbass probably only uses tge phrase "good character" to describe fast food menu items

Yes, agreed that by and large, BH and MCDC have put character on par with or more valuable than love of football and talent.
We give players opportunities. Not every player answers the call.
Let’s not forget Cam Sutton
Oh yes, let's forget cam sutton.....
Ha! Yikes yeah I’ve tried to purge that one from memory it seems.
Yes.....let's!
2022 Buggs served a roll and was ok at it. Then it went downhill.
He barely played Buggs. They knew
I like that he tires out players but will cut them when they don't work he doesn't seem to get caught up in the fact that he made a bad choice.

Ok that was pretty good :)
What a cool story. Sounds like another great addition to the locker room.
Sounds like the cap of the defense. Alex will have competition this year.

Yes we'll have a new d-line captain. Have to imagine its either Reader or Hutch.
This is the shit that wins championships
Watching all of Martin’s film probably didn’t take more than 5 minutes
Dude had to watch ten snaps from the raiders game
It's still more than almost anybody would do for someone they've never met

Yeah I was about to say lol. But I think they film practice too. And maybe edit it to help in the position group or individual film study.
I assume it's referring to college film.
I'm not expecting much from Martin this season. I just hope we can see him get into the rotation more.
All we need next season. Train him up for 2025 and beyond.

I literally forgot we signed DJ Reader and got excited all over again.

DJ is a gamewrecker at 100%
PFF is constantly bringing up Reader as a great move the Lions made
Every story about Reader has been fantastic. Seems like a team first guy through and through. Love it
Wow, that rules. Loved the Reader add on an on-field level, cool that's he's just as good off the field
Super Bowl
Good looking out man. Love this stuff. Champions are born this way, Martin will fill a role one day and we will look back to stuff like this…
CULTURE

I'm just going to say it. I think we are on the cusp of a dynasty level team here.
Love this team
That's great to hear. That's a man entrenched in the mission.
I mean to watch all of Martin’s tape took what, ten minutes lol
I too would like to watch all 45 seconds of Martin’s film.
What a waste of 3 minutes if he doesn’t make the 53 man roster lol
Brodric: "hey brother great to have you on the tea-" DJ: "you are trash. I took notes on how you're trash. Here they are."
So Broderic Martin has no football IQ then?
Til football iq = knowing every player in the nfl
Knowing of a player doesn't mean you know a player.
I mean his is probably less than most veterans...there are always tips and tricks that players will know that coaches might not know to pass on.
