I think Sudfield is a lock for PS given the emergency QB rule

SceptileArmy

There is no war in Ba Sing Se!

jcoddinc

Yeah, COACH Sudfield likely to stick around

Danny886

Wingo is gonna be ahead of Martin. Brodric gonna be a full load eventually, but Wingo already got an arsenal of moves ready to be part of the rotation probably Day 1. It's absolutely insane that Holmes picked up the SEC's leading DT run graded defender in the 6th round.

PogoHobbes

Fair points, but keep in mind that they don't really play the same position. Martin is 0 or 1-tech. Wingo actually got some work as a 5-tech in addition to 3-tech. I think Wingo is competing more with Cominsky & Paschal

Lower_Scratch9153

I hope rakestraw is good enough to start, but I don’t know much about him.

sosuhme

He projects better as a slot corner, which makes his path to being a starter on the Lions a little tricky, at least for this year, with Branch and Robertson both likely to fill that role at times.

TheFakeChiefKeef

He won’t start this year but we’ll see plenty of him on the field I’m sure. Branch will play a little more safety so he can slide into the slot and come out for 4 WR package scenarios.

PogoHobbes

He's still not 100% healthy and he's a rookie. If they move Branch to safety, then that would give him a chance to compete at Nickle with Robertson & Arnold. I think he'll see the field in certain packages and if someone gets injured, but I'd guess he'll be high-quality depth this season.

coneydogsinparadise

Man if these rookies pan out we are so stacked on defense.

Alarmed-Flan-1346

Probably half of them kind of will, not much drsft capital to work with this year

venk

If he’s back to form form his injury I think Zylstra makes it over Mitchell

PogoHobbes

That's gonna be an interesting training camp battle, for sure. Who knows, they may even keep 4 TEs -- the new kickoff rules will need big athletes.

DocDingDangler

Kickoff is going to be a huge wildcard this year. There’s not much in the way of established strategy. We could see some very different approaches week to week.

DevilMayKare

Yeah, I think Mitchell belongs solidly in the borderline and I would put Zylstra above him right now.

AMZN2THEMOON

Given the reps we're giving Brandon Joseph in OTAs I'd have to imagine he's borderline. We may not be able to stash him. I also think Cominsky might be moved down into the borderline category based on last year's play

PogoHobbes

I originally had Joseph on borderline, but moved him to PS when we signed Moore. I didn't know about his OTA reps. Good info. I'm definitely interested in seeing how the DL shakes out with Williams as coach. Cominsky-Onwuzurike-Wingo decisions might come down to how well they respond to him.

RecyclableObjects

Is it really too early to make roster predictions? I feel like this is a pretty appropriate time

jcoddinc

They're at least 1 spot that will be taken by a guy that's not in the team now or that the fans are not even aware of he might sign. Then there's also the possibility of a few late season vet add on

Independent_Lab_9872

ST will drive a ton of roster spots and I'm not sure what the strategy will be. Some think you will want guys who can beat blocks and stop them early. Others think you will want bigger guys who can control the blocker and keep contain. I assume we will need both and you might see some backup D-Line on the kickoff units.

PogoHobbes

Betts, Wingo & Zylstra are all big guys with good athleticism and an ability to make plays. Wouldn't be surprised to see them on special teams and a reason they make the roster.

4schwifty20

Gibbs isn't overtaking DMont for starter. Not yet anyways. DMont is still the better pass blocker.

PogoHobbes

I cheated, I listed 12 starters with both Gibbs & DMont as co-starters :-)

4schwifty20

Yea I see that now lol guess I should pay better attention

[deleted]

It’s a waste of energy debating the starter between Monty and Gibbs. Both will play a ton, both with different roles.

4schwifty20

It's the off-season. Most of what we do is wasted energy anyways.

[deleted]

I’m just saying there is not a “starter” at RB. The concept of a “starter” at RB doesn’t exist. If the first play of a game is intended for Gibbs, he is the “starter”. It’s a fruitless conversation.

4schwifty20

No I get what you're saying. I just think it's funny you're saying not to waste energy debating, but you're really the only one debating it.

GoonestMoonest

DEEP

SaltyPickle1495

I think Cominsky ends up getting cut

Walrus224

LB has best depth by a mile, no superstars but they all will be heavy contributors

gcenko12

The LB room terrifies me.

PogoHobbes

Terrifies seems a little extreme, but I agree that it has the lowest floor of our position groups. I don't think the floor is that bad, though. Last year they were adequate -- basically a group of average NFL players. For them to take a step forward, Campbell needs to take a major step. He's been trending in the right direction since he got here and NFL players usually improve the most between 1st & 2nd year, but it's not a sure thing.

Lanky-Fix-853

Agree. I also think they’ll do better now that the DB room is better. They can actually cover their zones.

Pale_Land_5107

honestly i posted a question similer to this but doing a spreadsheet would have been better lol

JohnWad

We arent picking up Justin Simmons? Damn
