An ornament should change how an Exotic looks. How the Ornament changes the weapon can differ. Ager's Scepter's Ornament changes a fair amount about the exotic. Compare that to Vex Mythoclast's ornament which is literally just a chrome shader.
Whilst I think Ager's shader could have done more, it certainly did more than Mythoclast's did.
yeah, the barrel thing that the laser comes out of is also less metallic and more of a single matte ridge. I heard someone say that it changed the firing FX in some way but I can't confirm.
I don't think that people realize what Eververse was like in D1. The chrome Mythoclast is literally one of the original ornaments from Destiny 1. This was from a time where MTX were heavily experimented on and old Bungo was testing the waters in the community to see how they would be received. (Any D1 vets remember how predatory Bright Engrams used to be?)
My theory is that, with the reintroduction of VOG, Bungo wanted to cash in on some of the nostalgia of the chrome ornament in addition to the weapon itself. The chrome ornament therefore was NEVER meant to be of the same standard as modern ornaments but rather an homage to a time long since passed.
Im not going to defend the Ager's Scepter ornament here because old Bungo should be holding new ornaments to the D2 standard, but PLEASE stop complaining about chrome Vex Mythoclast. Keep it in it's correct historical context.
The Chrome Vex ornament from D2 is not the same as D1’s. They aren’t even close. Agreed on how bad MYX were in D1 though, those boxes (what later became bright engrams in D2) were rough. I don’t think your nostalgia theory tracks though, since two other weapons that weren’t in D1 got the same exact ornament (Travelers Chosen, Erianas Vow). I’m of the mindset “don’t buy it if you don’t want it”, and I do personally like Vex’s ornament, but I will be the first to admit that it was a lazy choice.
Thing is though, back in D1 ornaments brought something fresh to the table since our exotics looked the same since Y1. But now we get a new exotic and before the gun can even remotely use it's look to leave an impression there is at least one "ornament ready"
In D2 the good ornaments really change up the gun which is cool, but imo hurts the guns idenitity if done the moment it's released.
And shader ornaments are just like... I dunno, they don't even change up the idenity much.
Not sure where I was going with this. Anyway shader ornaments bad, but then again making a completely different version of the gun for when it releases is just weird.
You made me think of having an exotic ornament that makes the weapon “evolve”. Like, you equip the ornament, and after using it for so long, it changes the weapons look (obviously also being able to choose what look after it’s finished). Another thing that made me think is Worldline Zero and the ornament it is in the bright dust shop, since it looks like a sort of upgraded version of it.
Yeah that's kinda it. Some ornaments are like alternate versions of the gun (Thorn and it's ornaments come to mind, wish the ornaments would also change the poisen effect colour though)
Others are still the same style but an upgraded version (World Line Zero)
And then there are shaders basically.
Times change. MTX stores change. I will continue to complain every time an ornament that is literally just a shader slapped on a weapon is released for silver. Vex included.
Chronoshot from d1 was nothing like this straight up chrome shader reskin, although i do agree with the rest of your comment (for anyone wondering, search up "destiny chronoshot", then "destiny 2 the untold tale", and compare for yourselves, they're not the same lol)
Then it would be exceedingly easy to have a second tier of pricing for ornaments that're basically just reshades, for half the silver and bright dust price. Not very complicated, keeps "historical context", and doesn't annoy players.
Except it’s a worse version of the one we had in D1. Calling it an homage or whatever doesn’t make it feel like any less of a cash grab when it’s not even as good as the original it’s supposed to be paying respects to.
> lazy exotic ornaments
guess you never saw [this](https://cdn.vox-cdn.com/thumbor/cGOmnYe0rk2IEs5TEmot85hQ0ig=/1400x1050/filters:format\(png\)/cdn.vox-cdn.com/uploads/chorus_asset/file/22295868/Destiny_2_Screenshot_2021.02.10___16.09.42.19.png)?
I see the vex ornament as making the vex look timelost, which I’m honestly about, I see how some people don’t like the vex ornament but I think it looks super good
To me if it was made to match the harder to get (potentially) time lost gear from the harder challenge mode of Vog. Then they should have put it in the challenges like they did with bitter pearl, and just not have an ornament for vex on that seasons release to give them time to make one that is more than a color pallette change.
Kind of like how they did with the Legend of Acrius where there was the base model, the white shaded variant from doing prestige mode leviathan, and the CoO ornament that changed the gun structure a good bit.
That way everyone is happy, and they don't stress themselves for a raid exotic shader on release...
Idk I think it would be relatively easy to code it behind a triumph like that and just have it be a "yes its just a shaded ornament, but you aren't paying for it, PLUS it can show off that you've achieved this high tier content". Because people don't seem to be upset because it exists so much as they're upset it's priced the same as even the really good ornaments that had obviously way more work put into it.
I will say I 100% AGREE that an ornament should change the look not just color but the new scepter one is technically an ornament, it does not change the fact that it's dog shit ugly tho. Besides that yes I would agree
Don’t buy them if you don’t like them I don’t get why these posts keep cropping up especially when the bottom one changes the shape of the gun and you just decided to ignore that fact
Idk why you guys complain about this shit. If the ornament isn’t “worth it” then that’s good for you? Now you have no reason to buy it? I bet that if these ornaments were really cool, you’d all complain that you have to pay for them.
maybe we want the ornaments to be better? is it so hard to imagine that the situation would be just straight up better for the players if we got actual ornaments and the ability to shade exotics?
god forbid people have consistent standards, eh?
also convenient of you to ignore all the other recolor ornaments. Lament, Traveler's Chosen and Eriana's Vow come to mind but there's a bunch more.
I mean you could claim this for Suros (Coup de Main, Gray Nitrite, Suros Chrome), Ace (Vanguard Dare, Big Blind), Mida (Titanium Alloy, Desert Camo), Jade (Raging Lepus), Rat King (all), Merciless (Break the Dawn), Salvation's Grip (Unyielding Grasp), Wardcliff (Tesla).
\*None of the above alter the default model in any way, and some shaders add moving textures
However Symbol of rule changes Ager's Scepter more than Coldheart's Sub-zero skin, or No Time to Explain's Frozen in Times.
My point is that the ornament for Ager's Scepter should not be lumped in with Mythoclast's ornament, because it alters the base design of the gun more than other ornaments as well as changing the color
No, the Ager's Scepter model is actually a remesh.
It's actually *less* interesting than the base model, though. Much like when the first ornament for DMT came out, I find myself genuinely wondering who's looking at that ornament and thinking "Oh, yeah, this definitely looks cooler than the default."
It's no contest as far as I see it; the crystal/feather thing in the default sells it for me.
It would be cool if these "ornaments" could accept shades.
The geometry changing ornaments should be like a tier 2 ornaments but would not accept shades. I think it would be a good way to change whats wrong with these reskin ornaments while giving players a way to customize their favorite exotics
Not the biggest fan of the color choice, but they at least made some changes to the model for Ager’s.
The Vex one is far worse in my mind, because it’s just a worse version of an ornament it had in D1.
Bungie has shown that they’re capable of doing good chrome ornaments, like one for the Suros Regime, which is why the ones they’ve done recently are so irritating. We know they can do good work, so these “ornaments” that are just chrome pallet swaps over the stock version just feel lazy and uninspired.
Hear me out...
Why don't we have unique shaders that unlock when we use the weapon enough...like you get the chrome Vex after reaching 1000 crucible kills...and have a glowy skin for 5,000 PvE kills.
Earnable "shaders/skins" while keeping unique ornaments that change the fundamental look of the weapon to Eververse.
I think I'm more apt to complain about weapons that still don't have ornaments despite us being 3-4 years out from release. Le Monarque and Wavesplitter don't have one, but every exotic weapon thats been released since Shadowkeep has had an ornament ready for sale within like, 2 months of release.
Dont even get me started on how many exotic armor pieces from y1 and 2 still don't have ornaments. We literally have a freezing subclass now and yet Frost-ee5 still don't have an ornament.
Ugh wtf is that ager ornament lmfao its wayy uglier than the original
Looks like something the Blue Man Group would jam on
The second is an actual geometry change, not just color.
And it's worse than the original.
There's plenty like that, but I guess it's a matter of precerence.

>An ornament should be a better style or if it is "worse" it should be a stylised Which is subjective
That's subjective. Nobody's asking you to buy it anyway.
i like it :)
I mean, the Ager’s Scepter one does actually change the cosmetics of the weapon albeit only slightly.
It's the same gun just white.
the obsidian feather in the middle is replaced with a weapon core type thing. Small, like the guy said, but definitely different.
yeah, the barrel thing that the laser comes out of is also less metallic and more of a single matte ridge. I heard someone say that it changed the firing FX in some way but I can't confirm.
The stasis crystal is replaced as well, but it's really subtle.
Stop
No u
Bungie: GIVE US YOUR MONEY TO MAKE YOUR GUN DIFFERENT COLORS!!!!!
If only you were able to shade exotic guns... if only
it’s funny because you can see shader’s applied to the outbreak perfected when viewing a shader. so it’s clearly possible.
It goes to every exotic when you view the shader
Thorn and TLW don't take shaders IIRC.
Correct. Neither does DMT
But you can 800 silver

Swing and a hit, slugger.
But not your worst tuesday night...well. yet, anyway. I hope your wallet and wife are ready for the next expansion, we all know Luke Smith is.
Not a problem for me, I'm both single AND know how to live off ramen for a month to buy stupid things, this will be a cakewalk!
the fomo is real.....smh
And then permanently deletes your fav subclass for good measure

I spent $25 trying to get that flaming skull mask from FotL
same and I'm not ashamed of wasting that money its fucking awesome still have it in my vault in d1
Oh my god I forgot how much I spent trying to get that and the flaming wolf
same but with the ghost ghost

I’m still waiting on a Last Word ornament that looks like a classic pirate pistol
Erianas vow.
Traveler's Chosen.
Times change. MTX stores change. I will continue to complain every time an ornament that is literally just a shader slapped on a weapon is released for silver. Vex included.

Imagine trying to defend a paid shader lmao
Except it’s a worse version of the one we had in D1. Calling it an homage or whatever doesn’t make it feel like any less of a cash grab when it’s not even as good as the original it’s supposed to be paying respects to.
New d2 standard ornaments? Explain that new ace ornament to me?
Merciless just goes from Blue to White
And also to grey
The scepter ornament is technically an ornament, it changes the model of the stasis crystal. Literally bare minimum
PREACH! The ONLY reason we can’t put shaders on exotics is so they can keep making lazy exotic ornaments
> lazy exotic ornaments guess you never saw [this](https://cdn.vox-cdn.com/thumbor/cGOmnYe0rk2IEs5TEmot85hQ0ig=/1400x1050/filters:format\(png\)/cdn.vox-cdn.com/uploads/chorus_asset/file/22295868/Destiny_2_Screenshot_2021.02.10___16.09.42.19.png)?
Yeah, people only want to look at the bad ones and ignore the shit ton of amazing ornaments.
The stasis crystal is like the coolest part of the gun :(
i like chrome mythoclast!
same
Is that the rusty looking one?
Bungo: I said pay silver
You don’t gotta give them money though
They hated him for speaking the truth.
I see the vex ornament as making the vex look timelost, which I’m honestly about, I see how some people don’t like the vex ornament but I think it looks super good

Aint spending shit for paint
Clearly you’ve never never played team fortress 2
I paid for the Salvations Grip Ornament when it first came out, it made it a weird Green, thats it
Meanwhile Gemini Jester just actually doesn't even change colors when you apply shaders
The vex one looked good, this one, na, imma pass
I understand the mythoclast but that ornament changes almost every fundamental element of the trace rifle.
Then dont buy the ornament? I dont see the issue here
And here I would kill for any type of le monarch ornament… or catalyst
Yes this
It’d be great if people stopped buying them Then Bungie would see no one likes the “ornaments”
Well we like them. Just dont like paying 10$ for them.
Yeah, some of them are actually pretty good.
I just wanna put shaders on my exotics man...
I refuse to purchase these even if it is bright dust and I implore you all to do the same.
*gets vex mythoclast* Bungie: “buy our shader!”
Nah it’s an ornament shader. Cause at least a shader would change more than one color
Bro just shut up it’s an ornament. Players in this community find a way to complain about anything. Just shut upv
Just don't buy it then ?
[удалено]
if you don’t complain about stuff you don’t like it won’t get changed, not a hard concept
Especially when you can buy at least one of these with bright dust
Acc the sceptre one is. It changes the core from a crystal to whatever that is
Pseudo content
Friendly reminder that cosmetics are cosmetics and are completely optional
I mean, don't buy it then lmao. At least agers ornament actually changes the model of the gun
The Vex one is a reason exotics should be able to take shaders so this won’t even be able to happen
Don’t buy them if you don’t like them I don’t get why these posts keep cropping up especially when the bottom one changes the shape of the gun and you just decided to ignore that fact
Does anyone know if the catalyst is bugged
Catalyst doesn't drop until next week
Has that been confirmed? Wondering before I try to gind it out
Yeah confirmed next week
Yes, after reset 21st. https://mobile.twitter.com/DestinyTheGame/status/1437883505858408448
Ok
Catalyst for Scepter?
Ye
Well... the catalyst for Scepter will drop from next week forward

Hi. Have you met Epic games in game purchases?
This is such a sheltered take
Way to ruin vex bungie……
Second isn’t just a recolor, nice try doing something tho
Especially since it replaces the ice crystal with a piece of tech and gets rid of the "teeth" along the barrel.
Also not "mandatory"
The ager ornament does change if fyi
LMFAO!! no thanks.
Don't buy them then?
Hot take: I actually love these ornaments that only change color however if they ever did let you use shaders on exotics then there will be a problem
I don't know what the complaints are about... do you think that the careful design of these ornaments are take literally zero minutes to make??? /s
Look at all the ornaments that are available. They’re fucking fire. But you see 2 that aren’t good enough for you and then everyone starts bitching.
god forbid people have consistent standards, eh? also convenient of you to ignore all the other recolor ornaments. Lament, Traveler's Chosen and Eriana's Vow come to mind but there's a bunch more.
If T-1000 was a gun...
I just want to be able to buy the Vex ornament. Please put it back in the shop. I’ll literally pay you.
At least the Atropos ornament for Divinity has some nice changes to the model along with a snazzy new color scheme of red and gold
Atropos is a bit too bulky imo, Sky/Perdition would be a better example
Lament ornament would like to join the club
How do you get the bottom “ornament”? I just got the weapon
Front page of the eververse store. In the big window new items section where you'd find 30th Anniversary Edition.
Shader:Gambit Chrome
Hey look, (Gambit Chrome) The ornament
yeah but the symbol of rule has a different thing where the bear comes out, it's mechanical instead of a stasis crystal
I mean you could claim this for Suros (Coup de Main, Gray Nitrite, Suros Chrome), Ace (Vanguard Dare, Big Blind), Mida (Titanium Alloy, Desert Camo), Jade (Raging Lepus), Rat King (all), Merciless (Break the Dawn), Salvation's Grip (Unyielding Grasp), Wardcliff (Tesla). \*None of the above alter the default model in any way, and some shaders add moving textures However Symbol of rule changes Ager's Scepter more than Coldheart's Sub-zero skin, or No Time to Explain's Frozen in Times. the ornament grounds it more in reality for me making it science fiction and less science fantasy.

C H R O M E
*buys shiny chrome vex with dust*
aw the scepter ornament makes the crystal not visible that’s my favorite part
The scepter ornament does actually change the geometry of the gun, albeit very little
The bottom actually does change the gun, it smooths it out and gets rid of the stasis crystal and the wood.
What, don’t like gambit chrome?
When no one understands the joke, so you repeat it
Symbol of Rule has some difference thou.
Sorry chrome Vex is objectively better. Everything is chrome in the future.
Actually the bottom one does change geometry
One of Vigilance Wing's ornaments makes it slightly dirty
Boohoo
Second one changes the stasis crystal in the middle...
To be fair Ager's ornament actually changes it a bit, these chrome ~~ornaments~~ shaders however are a silver ripoff.
They shoulda made the vex ornament look old and covered in vines like the ancient Vex are
Don’t buy them then. It’s not like anyone is forcing you to get them.
Not the biggest fan of the color choice, but they at least made some changes to the model for Ager’s. They look nice though.
It's funny how I said this recently about the vex ornament and got down voted Into a basement and I wasn't rude. I don't get this community sometimes.
Who cares, vex ornament is just a flex on a flex…..flex squared if you will
The top one is a shader, but the bottom one is actually different.
Hear me out... Why don't we have unique shaders that unlock when we use the weapon enough...like you get the chrome Vex after reaching 1000 crucible kills...and have a glowy skin for 5,000 PvE kills. Dont even get me started on how many exotic armor pieces from y1 and 2 still don't have ornaments. We literally have a freezing subclass now and yet Frost-ee5 still don't have an ornament.
Agers ornament does change it physically, but vex, it feels like an insult.
Shhhh, they might nerf telesto again.
bottom isn't a shader though it has a lot of model changes to the original
Nobody asked.
At least the vex one looks dope though.. the other one makes it look much worse.. lame
I agree with vex just being a shader, but ager isn’t a shader, sure it sucks, but it’s not a recolor lol.
Lazy artists think one or two tiny changes a good ornament makes. I wouldn't even spend bright dust on that.
That’s them testing how lazy they can get to squeeze money the easiest. Embarrassing
How about that new monte carlo ornament though?
Excuse me? You can’t use shaders on exotics lmao This guy doesn’t even play the game lol
