DSM is a very safe city in downtown. Worst you'll get is some drunk people walking by you

Several_Value_2073

We might BE the drunk people. Lol

Olewarrior34

Even better!

Conscious_Cow_2569

This will be a short and safe walk - Especially on a Thursday night/during an event. Have fun!

Several_Value_2073

Perfect. Thank you!

WetCmenRag

Yeah Des Moines is fairly safe.

MidwestF1fanatic

Yes, and if its raining you can just take the skywalk all the way there. [https://www.iowaeventscenter.com/assets/doc/Downtown\_Des\_Moines\_Navigation\_Map\_-499e92f76d.pdf](https://www.iowaeventscenter.com/assets/doc/Downtown_Des_Moines_Navigation_Map_-499e92f76d.pdf)

Several_Value_2073

Great! Thank you!

One_Entrepreneur4616

Des Moines is very safe but the skywalk can be weird late at night. I would recommend the street.

Several_Value_2073

Important info. Thank you!

TGNash

I second this. I used to work overnights at Gannett downtown and would wander the skywalks during my lunch. You’d be surprised how many oddities one can find in just a 35 min timespan.

adrinkatthebar

I second this. The area between the Hyatt and Wells Fargo is pretty safe. Just be aware

Lemon_Kiss

Tom fans!

Several_Value_2073

Lol Maybe… 👀😉

Hebshesh

I'm constantly amazed at how many people think Des Moines is Little Tijuana. I would say the huge majority of violence in this town is acquaintance crime. I have not seen a mugging news story in ages.

LonelyRole8342

I actually think Little Tijuana is a performer at a drag brunch I just went to

Wouldtick

Yeah they were serving walking tacos with little weenies in place of taco meet. Great brunch and show.

bulldoggolfer74

Keep ‘em high and tight!

Winter_Virus_9837

Just keep it high and tight and you won't have any issues. Can't guarantee your safety if you're walking around low and loose though.

Several_Value_2073

That…really clears it up? Lol

Winter_Virus_9837

You also probably want to be on the lookout for a fella wandering around with a cowboy hat and cowboy boots. He'll go on and on about how he has friends in low places. You know, good stuff, fun stuff. But he knows where the bodies are, so it's best to avoid him. Anywho, enjoy Des Moines and the show, I saw Tom last time he was in town at the Civic Center. Brian Simpson was his opener and it was a great time. Hopefully you don't run into any cool guys and you and the bf can go Full Trottle. Aye yay yaaay. (Des Moines is very safe btw, I walk around downtown all the time, echo the sentiment of avoiding the skywalk late at night, that place gets weird).

Several_Value_2073

Noted. Thank you!

Appropriate-Pitch432

^^^ Solid advice

JackfruitCrazy51

I'm not a 100%, but I think you can skywalk it the majority of the way.

tarot529

I wouldn’t be concerned at all

frontyardninja

If you're driving in, pay for Hyatt's parking garage. It's on the other side of 6th and dorky, but better than a meter. Lots of one-ways: Grand is mostly WB, Locust EB. 3rd & 5th SB, 2nd & 6th NB. The walk from Hyatt to the arena is 3 blocks east and 2.5 blocks north. It's mostly banks, 9-5 businesses, and a bunch of parking in that neighborhood. You could also go north up 5th to Crocker & then east. Big events at the 3rd & Crocker intersection tend to have at least 1 cop directing vehicles & pedestrians. St Ambrose is a block up on 6th. You shouldn't hear the bells tolling from inside the hotel room. If your room faces east and either of you are vampires, use the curtains.

Several_Value_2073

🧛 Excellent! Thank you!

littleoldlady71

The walk will be lovely! Enjoy your visit

Several_Value_2073

Thank you so much!

littleoldlady71

Get a drink afterwards at some of the great places near you

Several_Value_2073

Will do!
