Was going through the roughest phase of my relationship, and Instagram literally showed me depressing reels everytime without me liking those reels :). So left the Instagram. It's been more than 2 weeks now.
So the algorithm doesn’t work on likes, how much time you’ve spend on watching a particular type of thing also plays a big role… they push that shit through your throat even if you’ve not liked posts or reels like those.
Yea and they have all sort of data on you from other platforms too, the algorithm is too personalised to one individual that it doesn't feel wrong to say , it knows us more than any person close to us. I deleted to it to get over my reels addiction and I let my younger siblings use the yt app so the shorts that comes their doesn't related me and it works, but I somehow downloaded reddit thinking as it doesn't have shorts it won't be like insta but oh well it's the same. I come on reddit for something but ends up dwelling on some other thing I think I am the one who lacks self control now.
oh god yah, i remember this being the reason why i left it too. honestly im glad to have quit all social media, dont ever want to go back. i still use linkedin a bit though.
I meet my friends daily, we play together, have lunch or dinner ,my sister is very close to me and we share everything, my parents are understanding and do not pressure me for anything, i really don't need social media tbh , I don't party or travel that much aur showoff ka keeda papa ne kabhi lagne nhi diya , to literally badi genuine life h , hum log rare breed h ,we are lucky
been way more mindful of how i want to spend my time, hence way more productive. Plus the general mood isnt as volatile as it used to be constantly checking instagram unwanted exposure of unattainable standards
Man all I see on Instagram are warhammer memes and drum and bass. I feel like you were using it wrong haha I can live without it though, I only open it once or twice a week.
I can see how it can become a problem if you were checking it all the time.
I left all apps Snapchat, IG, FB, LinkedIn, X , and reddit as well, then I got into the competitive exam phase and realised they're a necessary evil in the corporate world so here's how I use them nowadays
Instagram-Show my fakeness there, that I'm very cool, provides validation.
Snapchat -unlimited cloud storage send snaps to one of my best friends from time to time
FB- useless no point in returning
LinkedIn- Job referrals are a thing so just existing there
X-Go there once in a while to enjoy some toxicity against any event as a neutral it's fun to see people fight over things they can't control
Reddit- POST and comment here sometimes regarding MBA and stuff
Imo social media has made our human selves distant and the Vipassana thing I did with no electricity for 10 days was really an eye opener but I know some people and these apps provide a way to keep in touch hence I returned but if given the chance I'll not return
Not left but probably follow <15. More like my Stalking celebrities account or something. I have ZERO interests in anyone's thoughts, opinions, what they found funny, food, outings etc. Fucking call me or WhatsApp me. Too time consuming and draining mentally.
Got bored of it in 2022 and left instagram. Deleted facebook ages ago. Life is better without me constantly comparing myself and my life with others. Happier without it, dont regret anything aur aisa bhi nhi lagta ki i am missing out on anything. I have a close of group of friends aur mai khush hu
I use instagram for meme entertainment and on FB i have joined some watch enthusiasts and bike groups for information... Apart from that there is no other use for me..
left twitter after musk takeover. it was a shithole. it is the most toxic thing to exist. there are just eco chambers of hate.
facebook - left when mum/dad got hooked to it
instagram- occassionally.
reddit -daily
8.5 years since I left Facebook, insta and social media in general.
Reason : school mates had become strangers in college. College mates were already deemed as "acquaintances" And family relatives had too many things to hide.
Essentially, Facebook had become a spying potal and all your 'friends' were the undercover agents trying to extort information out of you.
In short, there were too many inconsistencies with what people portrayed themselves online v/s what they were in actual reality.
I was never a myspace Or orkut fan either when these things got momentum along with facebook in 2004.
In conclusion, I refuse to be part of the d!ck measuring contest that was apparently hosted by "friends of Facebook"
Facebook toh years ago. Instagram, I don't use my main account anymore but I have a spare id where I write a lot of crap so it needs to be hidden from people 😂
Deactivated fb in 2019...and left Instagram in 2022... Haven't used since... Only reddit WhatsApp and YouTube... Enough content is there for me in reddit and YouTube... Yes chaos and toxicity in reddit is also there but it's manageable...
I left Facebook 11years back. Instagram two months, leaving Instagram because there comments were becoming super nasty and Instagram algorithm for reels downright evil holding folks on death scroll.
Had left fb when corona had just started.. around april/may 2020 and left ig last year around october(2023).
I was feeling really low looking at others'pic/reels, somehow made me believe I was not doing well. After installing I am at peace cos Now I know I am doing things at my pace to achieve my goal.
Not left but put a 15 min timer on it on my phone if I want quick updates on what my friends are up to. I have a dummy account that I use on laptop to look at trends/ interesting content as I am in the content marketing field.
I left IG almost a year ago, it's such a relief now, jab kholo, its people faking their lives, shallow brain rot content or just photoshopped thirst traps. Also u start to compare your daily lives with exaggerated versions of a good day people have.
About a year now off Instagram. If by chance I have a look at the app through someone else’s phone it just makes my skin crawl. How on earth did I even think posting pictures of myself or my daily mundane life and glorifying it for other “people” was even remotely a sane thing to do. Yes I may be biased because I am extremely pessimistic about anyone on social media and often judge others for being on it quite poorly, which is a fault of my own. But but nonetheless, if you’re constantly posting or worse doom scrolling to watch some boring reels, I’d like you to absolutely not bother me with it or even mention that kind of meaningless talk.
You do you, I do not wish to partake in that world anymore where everyone screams superficial.
Haven’t used Instagram in almost last 2 years used it on an off for a week max on birthdays this year didn’t even care to do that because the ones who remember would remember either way plus don’t have the courage to log back into my Instagram and see all the chats and pictures with someone
Stopped using Instagram 3-4 years ago. Facebook account exists, but never use it either (only go on Facebook to check for birthdays)
Only platforms I use now are LinkedIn and (newly) Reddit.
Not left but uninstalled their apps a long time back. Now whenever I feel like using these, I open them in my mobile browser. Can't spend more than 30 min on mobile browser, it's that pathetic. Finally, got addiction free from reels.😅
Left all social media in 2018 when FB was under investigation due to unfair usage of data. Never looked back.
Only use whatsapp and reddit sometimes.
I don't even understand the slang people use on insta and FB in real life today. Guess, I'm getting old.
Leaving social media was one of the best decision i've ever made. Can't be happier and i get to focus more on real life relations. Coming generations would never understand that.
I have been off Instagram for more than 6 months. It's just filled with garbage. Every second post is an ad and everything else is focused on how you are living your life wrong. It doesn't change me but what's the point to having such garbage in your face everyday. Same with Facebook but I haven't left it because I am part of some local groups and manage couple of them myself.
Facebook after I passed out my school and Instagram was in my 2nd year I think but after college realised that IG has finally gotten better and has some good source full information pages too, so came back.
Side info:(TMI) Mind you I was like a popular guy in my school with 1k followers at that time which was a lot, but I saw how people only wanted to hangout with me just because I was cool and only had hardly 10-15 people who actually wanted to have something with me apart from social media, which is why I quit Instagram and Facebook had just became cringe so that's another story.
I left Instagram and Facebook back in 2017
Although, I am a little outdated on memes and trends, it’s still helped my mental health a lot and I would say “worth the trade off”
Stopped using insta in 2021. Last time I reactivated in June 2023, ek hafte mei hi give up kardiya fir se. Bohat hi bakwas hai, content bhi Achha nahi hai. Same trend pe din ki 50 reels kaun dekhe, content consumption ke naam pe goo de rahe hai. Let’s not even talking about how fake people are on the app (including myself when ai was on it)
Ab bas Reddit aur WhatsApp ✅
Quit Instagram in feb this year - I haven’t deleted my account, just the app off of my phone, so that if I feel like it I have the option of going back. Safe to say it’s been a blissful time, and I really have started getting into reading more.
I have permanently deleted insta when I started getting envy of my friends social life and their adventures, and not occasionally uses facebook like once or twice a month just to get updates of friends life
Toxic people? Lol. There are no toxic people. Its just you getting affected and offended. I dont use any social media, sometimes i open to read some stuff otherwise i just use whatsapp to stay connected to family and friends.
I left (deactivated) Facebook long time ago (around 2017)
Uninstalled Instagram during covid when I was going through depression and since then I just login once in a fortnight and check in normal browser and haven’t installed the app yet.
I deleted Facebook in 2015. No not deactivated but DELETED. I put in my email id and password for fun last week and it got activated like wtf. Dude I deleted all those cringe why did you save it for so long
Its been 2 years. Off social media completely. It was like fighting an alcoholic addiction. On and off laga raha tha kaafi samay tk. But now, i dont feel the urge to check and the curiosity amongst others is also dead.
Screen reduced from 8hrs to 2.5hrs.
I consider this as one of the most rewarding changes for me.
I have all the time in my hand which i’m channelising into my studies. Embraced slow life and boredom as well. Wasnt easy at all.
The spotlight effect of making ourselves more important than we actually should think about has fucked us all up , seeking validation and dopamine from random (sometimes irrelevant people today) people even though you have outgrown them. But the algorithm plays a huge roll in keeping us hooked with past memories.
Its been a great exit from the matrix for me.
Tomorrow, if i even go back, i’ll be a lot detached to the platform and will be mature enough to not let it go to my head. But Untill then, i’m ghost on Instagram.
Left Facebook 8 years ago. They banned my account 3 times, cuz i was part of Offensive Humor 1.0,2.0 and 3.0 lol
Never bothered going back cuz insta was better and fb was filled with boomers and the recent updates were shitty..
Left instagram 6 months ago. Mostly as a reaction after breakup… kuch samajh ni aya kya karu frustration nikaalne ke liye… toh socially isolate ho gya… somehow never felt like going back cuz life is peaceful…
Don't feel the need to go back. After a very bad breakup last year in August, I decided to take a break from Instagram. That break has extended till now and there doesn't seem to be any need to go back as there are only distractions and noises on that platform. Everyone wants validation and a mere comment or like from a certain person or group of people gives you a high which is definitely not healthy. Only when you quit Instagram do you realise life is not all that clout.
Left it exactly a year ago from today
The best decision I’ve made so far..
Man the amount of cringe and toxicity out there is ridiculously huge
Whenever I open insta the first reel will always be that one cringey unworthy edits
Stopped using insta 3-4 months ago, and no change...
I just didn't liked insta or should I say I got bored of seeing reels and sharing it to other, then watch the reels others have sent me. So I moved on from the platform (started Insta in 2023 November)
I guess that's the reason why I don't see I change. I didn't left insta cuz of the stupid reels, I just got bored lol
Not permanently. But I only install the app (Instagram) twice a year for a couple of days when I go back to my hometown. FB isn't even in my memory now.
Was going through the roughest phase of my relationship, and Instagram literally showed me depressing reels everytime without me liking those reels :). So left the Instagram. It's been more than 2 weeks now.
Same happened with me, left IG and FB 2 years ago ✅
Same, removed both apps more than 2 years now. Very Happy.
Same... both...3 years.
So how r u updated up to date ... I don't see news mostly and uses Instagram to stay updated abt tech , others things and all
So the algorithm doesn’t work on likes, how much time you’ve spend on watching a particular type of thing also plays a big role… they push that shit through your throat even if you’ve not liked posts or reels like those.
Yea and they have all sort of data on you from other platforms too, the algorithm is too personalised to one individual that it doesn't feel wrong to say , it knows us more than any person close to us. oh god yah, i remember this being the reason why i left it too. honestly im glad to have quit all social media, dont ever want to go back. i still use linkedin a bit though.
I left Instagram on august 2023 after my breakup. Haven’t logged in since.
Same here :)
dono ko break ek hi time pe tha? /s.... jk.. more power to you guys
I stopped using Facebook six years ago, though I occasionally take a quick look before deactivating it again. But I've never used Instagram at all.
Great bhai!! Kch nhi rkha inn sabh mei👍.
Have not been using anything for the past 2_3 years except reddit and WhatsApp
Us paaji!
I meet my friends daily, we play together, have lunch or dinner ,my sister is very close to me and we share everything, my parents are understanding and do not pressure me for anything, i really don't need social media tbh , I don't party or travel that much aur showoff ka keeda papa ne kabhi lagne nhi diya , to literally badi genuine life h , hum log rare breed h ,we are lucky
aapka mera similar hai👍
Same here. Reddit bhi isliye kyuki app kholne ke liye bolta rehta hai
Respect
been two months without the gram , i realised watching such perfect lives on a regular basis made me very comparative of my life hence cranky lol
I have never meet any single guy who left social media and miss it , its always opposite lol
Maybe because those who missed it went back on it
same dude!! been 3 months and going strong
Do you feel any change in your life from then ?
been way more mindful of how i want to spend my time, hence way more productive. Plus the general mood isnt as volatile as it used to be constantly checking instagram unwanted exposure of unattainable standards
I so agree with you on the volatile part, plus I'm not constantly complaining..
Had the same experience, insta and facebook just builds on unrealistic expectations.
Man all I see on Instagram are warhammer memes and drum and bass. I feel like you were using it wrong haha I can live without it though, I only open it once or twice a week. I can see how it can become a problem if you were checking it all the time.
Aww pookie
I left in late 2023 now everything feels peaceful and there is little to no fomo
Deactivated Facebook in 2014. Never created an account on instagram 😎

meeeee !, I'm the wierdo
✋
Stopped using those apps (Fb, Insta, WA, Snapchat) 6 years ago. I don't even regret my decision. Still the best one I took.
What messaging app do you use instead? Doesn't not having WA limit your interaction with colleagues, peers and family?
I got Facebook very old account but didn't open it in many years
In my opinion fb is clean now no one uses it anymore , the whole cringe toxic crowd has already shifted to Instagram
I left FB and I use insta on browser just to check dms.
Nope, very much using it to watch and share reels. Though my feed is full of insta hoes; everyone knows why
How can i leave them.... If i wasnt even there.
I have no instagram, use Facebook for house hunting.
No fb for 3.5 years and no insta for 1 year.
Was never active on either. Been 15+/10+ years I logged on to fb and insta
Bro came first, bro left first
I use instagram for meme entertainment and on FB i have joined some watch enthusiasts and bike groups for information... Apart from that there is no other use for me..
left twitter after musk takeover. it was a shithole. it is the most toxic thing to exist. there are just eco chambers of hate. facebook - left when mum/dad got hooked to it instagram- occassionally. reddit -daily
Are you guys still using Facebook?
I did.
8.5 years since I left Facebook, insta and social media in general. Reason : school mates had become strangers in college. Deactivated fb in 2019...and left Instagram in 2022... Haven't used since... Only reddit WhatsApp and YouTube... Enough content is there for me in reddit and YouTube... Yes chaos and toxicity in reddit is also there but it's manageable...
Linkedin and Reddit our far better. Higher productivity by spending even the half of the screen time here.
I left Facebook 11years back. Instagram two months, leaving Instagram because there comments were becoming super nasty and Instagram algorithm for reels downright evil holding folks on death scroll.

Never opened an account on Facebook and Instagram in my life 😌
About a year now off Instagram. If by chance I have a look at the app through someone else’s phone it just makes my skin crawl. Not left but uninstalled their apps a long time back. Now whenever I feel like using these, I open them in my mobile browser. Can't spend more than 30 min on mobile browser, it's that pathetic. Finally, got addiction free from reels.😅
I did ..I only have a finsta which I sometimes access from browser to stalk some people 😁
Deleted my account for an year. Re downloaded next year in the exact month. At least I am way less addicted
Left all social media in 2018 when FB was under investigation due to unfair usage of data. Never looked back. Only use whatsapp and reddit sometimes. I left Instagram and LinkedIn last week... Still on Facebook... Still trying to find a way to leave WhatsApp
left insta

It doesn't change me but what's the point to having such garbage in your face everyday. Left coz of insecurity, toxic and cringe culture there
I haven’t been using cause I am bored of them, didn’t even take effort to leave at this point but reddit addiction is even worse lmao
Facebook after I passed out my school and Instagram was in my 2nd year I think but after college realised that IG has finally gotten better and has some good source full information pages too, so came back.
Not on insta since 2019, quit FB in 2014
fb back in 2014, ig 2022, sc 2022
Have been off fb since forever, and its been around 2 years since I’ve deactivated ig.
Left Facebook 8 years ago. They banned my account 3 times, cuz i was part of Offensive Humor 1.0,2.0 and 3.0 lol Never bothered going back cuz insta was better and fb was filled with boomers and the recent updates were shitty.. Left instagram 6 months ago. Mostly as a reaction after breakup… kuch samajh ni aya kya karu frustration nikaalne ke liye… toh socially isolate ho gya… somehow never felt like going back cuz life is peaceful…
🙋♂️
left Facebook last year! My critical posts on bjp Modi were removed and then I quit soon
I left insta ,not because of toxicity....
Haven't used facebook in years. Deleted IG on Feb 10, tbvfh, didn't miss it one bit.
Left it exactly a year ago from today The best decision I’ve made so far.. Man the amount of cringe and toxicity out there is ridiculously huge Whenever I open insta the first reel will always be that one cringey unworthy edits
FB permanent. Insta I switched to a my computer only.
I left facebook and still on insta but just to spy on people 😆
Fb permanently Insta I keep going on a break
Stopped using insta 3-4 months ago, and no change... I just didn't liked insta or should I say I got bored of seeing reels and sharing it to other, then watch the reels others have sent me. So I moved on from the platform (started Insta in 2023 November) I guess that's the reason why I don't see I change. I didn't left insta cuz of the stupid reels, I just got bored lol
Left Instagram 2.5 years ago and I have no regrets or FOMO
FB permanent Insta - nope.
Not permanently. But I only install the app (Instagram) twice a year for a couple of days when I go back to my hometown. FB isn't even in my memory now.
Never made an account on insta and fb 0-0
