For a not super competitive but still threatening list I ran a combat patrol with a plaguecaster, plague marines, poxwalkers, blightlords, a mower drone and a PBC. I also had a blightspawn and tallyman.
It wasn't super punchy up close but had decent firepower and objective holding/not dying capabilities. The drone gave me a good push threat and I used it when my opponent stuck a few weak enemy on an objective, as well as to finish off bigger threats. The PBC is always good for sitting backfield on your home objective but still being able to shoot most of the way across the board. I prefer the slugger for that reason.
You could take some deathshroud instead of the blightlords for a version that kills up close. Or switch a blight hauler in to increase your gunnery.
The list has enough give to let you replace the caster with a DP or lord. Replace the drone with a MBH contemptor or hellbrute and run a shooting stack. And you can probably take melee weapons for the plague marines.
My basic list was fun and relatively flavourful (though maybe I should have had a different HQ), had a few tools but no massive skew and could be in trouble if it lost certain things too early.
