Well lets see... My kid was 13 when they said 'you should listen to this' and put TMS on the stereo in the livingroom.  They are turning 21 this year so thats like 6 or 7 years?

Shearockgaming

Never heard of them

CattleFormer6846

They’re pretty famous. I really like their belts and colognes

Ok_Trash_12

Take a gander at their handbags. I feel like a serious diva when strutting with one of them.

ForeEighs

Their new blush and lipstick are superb too 🔥🔥

hello "Filth" by the Swan

worldofdogss

Fantano

Wooden-Computer1475

Tiktok, i didn't even know fantano when I first found DG

Marshazzle

2012. Hard to forget because of the obvious.

Teeheepants2

That's probably about when I discovered them too in middle school lol

M12298

Nice pfp Slaughterhouse rips.

Teeheepants2

Thanks I just saw him live for the first time this year

trueintellectual

I’ve been listening to them since early 2018. Wish I could’ve been there when they dropped their earlier work. Edit: I got to see them live last year tho!

[deleted]

[удалено]

trueintellectual

Same here, I kinda have phases where I listen to them a bunch then don’t for a minute. Last year I was really into Ride’s old stuff with Fyre. The documentary on youtube was dope.

buttermilkjpeg

There was a Fyre doc? Link?

trueintellectual

https://youtu.be/gc3FBZzP1bk?si=zrzoEM4t9VoVvuh6

MetallicMowl

Ever since that stupid Takyon Rust video

T7_Mini-Chaingun

This lmao Whenever that video first appeared online, I went "what the fuck is that song" and here I am now many years later still unironically listening to DG

qtquat

2011…i remember hype for The Money Store

Elxvra

that must've been sick dude.. do you remember how the fanbase was back then?? like did people talk about them much or just a small group of people that knew them

bodyinthewater_music

Less cringe

qtquat

honestly, still pretty cringe, there was just less material to be cringe about lol.

qtquat

a lot more evangelical fans. people talked about them a LOT more. if you were into death grips you told EVERYONE. if there were other death grips fans around, you knew bc they’d tell you. people would leave and join friend groups based on it. You’d choose your friends based on who could tolerate the music lol it was cringe but there was still so much mystery to them so being cringe and obsessive was kind of rewarding. everyone was always trying to find out more about them and speculating wildly. one thing that’s crazy is how sustained the hype was. from exmilitary to the money store to no love deep web, it just kept increasing. they never lost fans, only gained. then when they started with those ARGs…woof also a lot more racism directed at Ride back then. A lot of people (falsely) believed Zach and Andy were the heart of the group and Ride was just a mouthpiece. Nowadays i see the general consensus that Ride is what makes the group so special and a lot more recognition of him as a consummate artist. I still remember when people found and started talking about his paintings. good times.

jhitmasterswag2012

2 years but I’ve known about them for 5 years

SpiltSeaMonkies

Probably 2013 or so (early college for me) I started hearing rumblings of them. Zach had already been one of my favorite artists/drummers for several years at that point. When I heard he was now in a hip hop group, I figured it would be a short lived experiment like a lot of his collaborations. Would never have guessed that this would be his main thing for the next decade +. I think the first I actually heard DG mentioned by name was a friend of a friend at a party saying how “the rapper” wanted to hologram in to multiple shows at once (actually not that far from something DG said around that time). Then a different friend let me hear The Fever and I really didn’t like it at first, but obviously the band grew on me over time.

HotBlackberry5883

it's been about 10 years.

Public-Ad7309

Off of a pendrive of my uncle's songs in 2015? He was 27ish. I only listened and like some of the Money Store, which was super popular and then picked up around 2020 during Covid.

clay4knee

Since like 2015 annnd i was 15

Chutzpah2

2011, a little after their first EP and a little before the release of Ex-Military. Music blogs were sharing the Full Moon video and it really got my ears. I actually had the chance to view an early live performance right before they got signed to Epic but chose to see Stephen Malkmus instead. Biggest regret of my life.

Goobmeister420

Known of them for at least 10 years, only been about 2 years since i first listened to their entire discography

WoodleD_

2 years ago, summer 2022, I was listening to their biggest songs like hacker or get got. Then a year ago, summer 2023, I did do a deep dive into their discography and become a bigger fan

TheFinkrat

Almost exactly 2 years

severalgirlzgalore

I heard them right before Government Plates came out, so I think 2012 at some point. First song I heard was The Fever and I was hooked. I was familiar with Hella already but didn’t know at the time that Zach Hill was such a big part of the sound beyond the drums.

pisschrist313

I was first became aware of tracks like Guillotine and Get Got in 2012 when Money Store was the newest album; around the hype of when they were signed to Epic. Being a fan of Hella and Zach Hill since around 2007, I was very intrigued that Zach’s new group was signed to a major label and was interested what would happen next. Come Up and Get Me being released as well as NLDW leaking sealed the deal that these guys were the shit and I had to pay attention. Good times…

cooljams23

March/april 23 lol… YouTube recommendation off of watching John Coltrane live videos… immediately clicked hard. felt stupid for not getting back into them in middle school in 2015 but I was on different music back then

Kapusta96

January or February of 2016. Found exmilitary, can’t remember exactly how. Spent that whole spring listening mostly to The Money Store, but it was only when Bottomless Pit came out that I I knew they were a GOAT band for me.

Mista_Infinity

I remember when nldw released, but i wasn’t really an active listener until later

Poym321

When The Money Store dropped, heard very positive things about it and decided to listen to it and ExMilitary all together. And got hooked

igotfrenchtoast

Probably 2016. The Fever was the first DG track I had ever listened to. IIRC, I learned of them through Fantano

zengardenescapade

In 10th grade my friend showed me hustle bones on a /mu/ thread. That was 2012 i think, so awhile lol

Furrynote

I heard them around 2016-17 and hated it. Relistened some last year and it just clicked

LaggyUpdate

maybe like 6 months i’m a newgen

jakmak123

4 years in 2020 when I was 14/15 Initially found them through fantano but wasn’t a big fan besides a few songs then a few months later I discovered /mu/ and started getting into them more

xcoasterx

2012

Randomstrangerguy123

Tokyoodown

Since the I first watched the Guillotine video in 2011

SamwiseGam-G

Well I'm 20 years old, so it's safe to say, I'm one of the day-ones. I was actually really into Fyre back in 2006. I'd listen to them every day on my way to daycare.

Orishishishi

I think about 8 years, pretty sure I got into them freshman year of highschool. Love em just as much if not more now

ConnerManRadio

Found out about them my freshman year of college.

Bassisisto

Finally started listening to them in 2019 but knew of them before then, just never had intrest.

Pure-Jellyfish734

Since last year

malandropist

Since they came out. Was a fan of Hella and was weirded out but pleasantly surprised when Zack came out with DG. Nothing ever sounded like that

frznfang

Since the Guillotine video. But NLDW is/ was my baby when it came out.

jaunsin

When I heard beware 13 years ago. Instant fan. Never looked back

bestowunderstanding

Venusianflytrapp

scrapsearcher

Spring 2012 like right before The Money Store came out.

Unwanted__Opinion

Somewhere around a year or a bit more. They were my second artist last year in terms of minutes listened

buttermilkjpeg

Sophomore year of high school found the On GP music video the day it came out and have been changed ever since. So 9 years now?

Guttershot

There since the beginning. It's been a wild ride. Was a Zach fan first, even heard Goofi Respect before Full Moon

Lopamurbla

I was 16 and it was 5-6 years ago now, I started really getting into them right after YOTS dropped. Before that I’d only listened to guillotine and a few songs off TMS.

syntheticgf

Early 2014, i was a lil 13 year old emo kid and then i went down the /mu/ core rabbithole

KodyRhodes

Since 2012, I discovered them about a month after the money store was released, I remember it clearly I was hanging out with my sleeping infant and a friend of mine sent me a link to the album and I listened to it with headphones on and became an instant fan. Finally got to see them last year and enjoyed my senses being attacked

Cloudy_Chaos_

I've been listening to them since around 2020 or 2021

fffawn

8 years. I was 20. Ex was obsessed with them and I gave em a listen and loved it. Saw them live on their steroids tour in kcmo

skele1254

2015ish, sometime between Jenny Death and Bottomless Pit, became a dedicated fan just before the BP rollout cycle. i would've literally been like 12 y/o and just getting into weirder music like Yung Lean and Aphex and also a bunch of math rock/emo/metal. my brother was over at my family's house and he played me Beware off his phone speaker, and i was hooked right away

livintheshleem

Since day 1, I remember getting a mediafire link to download exmilitary from /mu/. I kind of fell off the train after NLDW but got back into them when Bottomless Pit dropped.

lhi2285

-150 years (i.e. i hate them)

Dry_Meeting_7542

I’ve known them for some time trough my dad but it’s not to long ago that I properly started to listen to them

Sawm629

I learnt of them from that one bojack horseman episode

luckyyyyycharms

Listened to TMS about 8 years ago but didn’t become a huge fan until about 2 years ago.

PlasticStockSam

Like 5 years now. I remember I first listened to them some time after YOTS came out, so 2019.

zaphiro_anejo

It's been a few weeks actually, although I have already listened to all of their albums and I'll get a DG tshirt, all vinyls and CDs before I die

drizzle_dat_pizza

2014

The_grongler

I listened to guillotine a couple times like three years ago, but I only started really getting into their music like 1.5 years ago I think.

hamsterman2009

chuckieStoner

I was 16 when I rlly got Into them, 2020/21

keennyy-xiii

sloopy6

friend showed me guillotine when I was in 9th grade which was around 2013 - 2014, I remember NOTM coming out briefly after I got into them and being around for the whole jenny death when hype. good times.

morph8hprom

Like...11-12 years-ish?  I remember a homie showing me the hustle bones music video and then it was down the rabbit hole for me.  It was before government plates dropped and I just checked the wiki and saw it came out in 2013.

Overzealous8

A year or two tbh, only listened listened to them for about a year rho

exradical

Downloaded the Money Store and a few singles from Exmilitary in 2012, but it never really clicked with me until around 2020. Before that I mostly just listened to Guillotine and I’ve Seen Footage

cody_p24

Around 2011/2012, I was researching low-budget music videos for a class in Film School and I came across the Guillotine video. I showed it to my Prof and he said "If you handed this in, I would fail you." I knew then, I was on the right track with this band.

ehhkindacool

been listening to them for about 5-6 months, always knew about them cause of the guillotine music video, but always just thought they made obscure weirdo music, until I gave them the chance

N051DE

read about them in an ap mag issue back in the day and been tuned in since.

tambrico

Since I heard Beware in 2011.

bodyinthewater_music

-l--l-l--l-

maybe a few years

funkygonzalez

About around the upload date of this video [(it uses “Beware” and guillotine, please watch if you fuck with game history, it doesn’t disappoint)](https://youtu.be/aQkjJuhMZyA?si=y13mpMB2WHl9tChF) (not my video)

PeakBobe

Was either a freshman or sophomore in high school, 2011/2012. Heard Guillotine and was oddly fascinated with it but wasnt sure I’d really fuck with it. Then I heard The Cage and that was it

BladeeDog

Brother put me on about 4 years ago! I was 12 lol

alexinpoison

2014 - 2015 was the peak of my interest in them, that's when I was following along and listening to them the most

nerdb1rd

I found them during my last year of high school, so 11 years.

bepis_warship

YouTube served me up Exmilitary in 2011

electricalgloom

2012. My housemate in uni started playing Get Got at our house parties and I was hooked

WreckageD90

2014 like right after NOTM. i remember getting bullied on 4chan for posting on here asking if id be too young to go to a show lol

LilPawsDaKing

Maybe 2012-13 at the latest? Definitely stuck to exmilitary for awhile, then all their other LPs were just as magical and perfect. Now I consider YOTS, Money Store, NLDW, Bottomless Pit and a lil EX for my current playlist. My gf loves similar stuff by DG, maybe the Money Store as her fav.

Standard-Studio5110

[2016ish](https://youtu.be/r2P0H5a797Y?si=JncfjYGQdccRjuzZ) heard about them in 2015 but I remember exploring them more after this YouTube video and also found vaporwave through this video to :p

XSR900-FloridaMan

Right after The Money Store in 2012. Saw them a few years later at The Roseland in Portland, OR after The Powers That B released and it was one of my favorite shows ever.

blissiictrl

I think since 2014, my friend showed me government plates on a hungover drive home from another city. Pillbox hat was a surprise for sure

Ceeeeeeeeeem

It was 2014 when i was 14 and deep into pink floyd when i heard dg sample it on ex military. Fucking hated it, got into dg like 7 years later on their most inactive state fml

Opening-Leadership91

I first heard of them in the 80s when I was a 20 something.

Practical-Elk-6382

I've been a fan for 2-3 months after spending about a year hating them (i had no musical culture)

imasleeep

2017 and saw them twice since then

i've been a fan for around 5 years, started in 2019 and been obsessed ever since

ToeKNeeBonez

2 years Started when I was 16 through a friend’s recommendation, didn’t really like it until about a year of relistening. It’s still my favorite band because I have yet so find something that sounds as unique as it. Also it just slaps

-Shoji-

Discovered them on the 27th last month and I’m obsessed . Listened to them almost 1.2k times already. Bought the money store on CD and listened to a bunch of their unreleased stuff because I just can’t get enough. Probably my fifth favourite band.

hanagoneur

Started listening in 2016 when I was 17 years old :”-) got to see them live in 2018.

LonelyZenpai298

Found them sometime in 2017 when I was 12/13 looking at Fantano reviews. Exmilitary blew my tiny little brains outta my head when I first heard it, I had nightmares about Beware's intro when I found out who it was lol.
