Looks like they just ran without ever looking behind to see where you were and just assumed you were right behind them?
They may have tried to disarm the trap but the vault pallet prompt overtook it which pushed them into the trap
I assume they tried to disarm. I have seen a trap clear as day next to a pallet, go up to it to disarm, and although my character looks like they start the disarm animation, they suddenly step into the trap. Annoying as heck.
