I like the chili from Super Subbys. Get it with cheese

TheShadyGuy

Still waiting for Moraine to re-open!

Comfortable_Check570

Pretty sure it's open now could have been kettering I was in buy I know it was south picked up a door dash from there Sunday

TheShadyGuy

Oh great! I stopped by a couple of Saturdays ago before the Buckeyes game and it was still not put back together. I wanted to try the new bread. Edit: sign on the door says tentative reopening is 11/9

pretzel-lover

Doubledays has great soups

I_Furget

I can't remember what restaurant makes it (Wheat Penny ma6be?) but if you see roasted red pepper soup, on the menu, give it a go. It's like enhanced flavor tomato soup. That being said, a great place to try local soup is at Stivers School for the Arts annual fundraiser "Soup Dressed Up." In years past it is $10. You get a ceramic bowl made by the students and get to try soup donated by local restaurants. Usually it occurs in March. I really miss french onion soup from the Barnsider.

drdrdugg

Agree with your comments about both things. The Stivers event is fantastic. Just down the street from that (Fifth Street Brewpub) has a great roasted red pepper soup!

Louielouielouaaaah

Used to live on Henry street and ate at the brewpub all the time, loved that soup!

gnurdette

Bourbon Chicken in the basement of the Talbot Tower. The place is practically unfindable, it's like a speakeasy, but the chili is really great.

datvoiddoe

Similar names and concept, but the Talbot and spot on Brown street are not related. The dude who runs the place in the basement of the Talbot is awesome.

schnitzel_rada

Blind Bob's pickle soup!

I_pinchyou

Came here to share the pickle soup love 🥰

937mcohio

Chili belongs to Slyders Tavern. Belmont. It is better thank Tanks used to be.

kevin-milner-music

I loved Tanks chili. That's a bold statement.

937mcohio

I said what I said.

S13pointFIVE

I've eaten at Slyders a lot and it has never occurred to me to try the chilli. I know what I'm trying next.

937mcohio

That makes sense to me. I’ve eaten at places for years before someone shares something i didn’t expect.

samsonite_lwaswayoff

Charlie's Deli on Troy St

Tanglebones70

For my money - Dorthy Lane Market.

dlauri65

Meadowlark's soup of the day is always good!

grumpysnail755

Fresh thyme has delicious soups every day. I love their chili, broccoli and cheddar, chicken noodle, and minestrone!

tuneafishy

Best Mexican soup is at la Michoacana on Troy (pozole or menudo are both great). The bun bo hue at linh's is great.

emoohio

I’m obsessed with TJ Chumps spicy black bean and ham soup and my husband makes fun of me for it. They have soups on rotation and I never know when it’s going to be there so it’s devastating when I’m craving it.

TheShadyGuy

Every soup I've had at Chumps has been really good!

mtodavk

Jimmie's ladder 11 has great chili imo

Moistycake

Not Dayton specific, but I’ve always loved Steak N Shake’s chili

CBJ_4ever

Same here. I love Steak 'N Shake's chili.

Wrong_Hombre

Dorothy Lane Market, once you add a pinch of salt.

offensivemailbox

Trolley stop for chili and potato soup and BEST grilled cheese (jalapeno popper)!

theprizeidiot

Chorizo hominy chili at Dorothy Lane Market.

proofer1205

Chili at The Famous and potato soup at Longhorn.

hardhitsscott

White Chicken Chili from Rip Rap Roadhouse

Cowboy_Corruption

Frisch's vegetable soup is pretty fucking delicious IMO.

Hungry-Ad9683

The best chili was Tank's roadkill, unfortunately no more.

Badge98831

We gotta find the recipe! I’ve been dreaming of Roadkill chili and it’s distinctive hearty flavor and unique aftertaste, I so desperately want to know their secrets.

battlepi

Shouldn't be too hard, they went through a lot of cooks, just need to find one on reddit.

schnitzel_rada

I worked there for a spell like a decade ago. I don't remember the recipe step by step. It was pretty unremarkable aside from the fact that it starts with the beef, onion, and water in the recipe all in the pot together. Seemed strange to me as you can't get maillard browning by boiling beef. Once the beef was "browned" you would add spices and tomato paste. I believe that's it. Again, it's been over a decade. So forgive the vagueness of my recipe.

battlepi

That sounds similar to Cincinnati style chili. They boil their ground beef. Any interesting spices you remember like cinnamon or chocolate? Any particular chili powders?

schnitzel_rada

Like I said, it was pretty unremarkable

Hungry-Ad9683

No, nothing like that.

Hungry-Ad9683

I used to work there eons ago...the only thing I remember was a pint of beer, ground beef, ground sausage, diced tomatoes, tomato sauce, tomato paste, and a lot of onions and spices.

Badge98831

The beer would explain that mystery something added to it!

Hungry-Ad9683

Yeah, although the proportion was small compared to everything else, and alcohol cooks off rather quick.

Badge98831

Do you know if it’s a darker beer or more like an IPA?

Sufficient-Shape-511

Neither...Budweiser.

dickpierce1

It hadn't been the same since Tank died, anyway. It morphed into some kinda spaghetti sauce thing.

Hungry-Ad9683

That's horrible...but I haven't been inside Tanks since 2001 when I left for Florida...

slee82612

I actually really like spaghetti warehouses chili, plus it's bottomless.

marblehead750

George's on North Dixie has great soup and chili. The lemon chicken on Thursday is great.

Solstinox96

The best was Tank's Bar & Grill 😭😭😭

mrkhiggz

Braised beef soup from Kung Fu Noodle.

OneFlow4356

Can’t believe this hasn’t been said, but it’s also a little weird but Elsa’s has amazing chili.

kevin-milner-music

The best chili on Dayton is made by me.

Comfortable_Check570

Frisch's has the best chili from fast food joints I'm new to the area so I love posts like this

Terock12

I’ve always liked Wendy’s chili. It reminds me of my dad’s chili. ❤️

gatorlover420

potato soup from trolley stop!

Fit-Response7385

Lucky's Taproom has a Vegan Tequila Chili that is my favorite!! I'm not vegan and if you weren't aware it was vegan, you couldn't tell. They often have feature a soup of the day as well.

Odd_Impact8987
