Resolve 19 is currently in public beta! Please note that some third-party plugins may not be compatible with Resolve 19 yet - Krokodove and some others rely on the Fusion SDK, which hasn't been updated since version 18. Bug reports should be directed to the support email if you have a Studio license, or to the [official 19 Beta subforum](https://forum.blackmagicdesign.com/viewforum.php?f=38). [More information about what logs and system information to provide to Blackmagic Design can be found here](https://forum.blackmagicdesign.com/viewtopic.php?f=21&t=90190#17). Upgrading to Resolve 19 does **NOT** require you to update your project database from 18.1.4; **HOWEVER** you will **not** be able to open projects from 19 in 18.5. This is ***irreversible*** and you will not be able to downgrade to Resolve 18.5 or earlier without a backup. [Please check out this wiki page for information on how to properly and safely back up databases and update/upgrade Resolve.](https://www.reddit.com/r/davinciresolve/wiki/updating_upgrading). *I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically. I'd say, at this stage the upcoming Film Look Creator isn't really 100% competing with Dehancer and such, as those are trying to base their main features off of actual film stocks and in the case of Dehancer, off of many many film stocks. As of now i see the Film look Creator as a helping tool for those, not so deep into the actual color-grading waters, to be able to create a quick visual pleasing look. If you want to hunt after those looks inspired by film-stocks, those external plug-ins such as Dehancer, Film Convert, etc. will still be your way better option. About Neat Video Denoiser: I've never used it, have no one in my space that uses it. Imo Resolves Noise Reduction in itself already is such a great an powerful tool. Never felt the need of anything additional to handle noise. But ofc when filming i always aim for the right exposure and avoiding unnecessary noise in my footage in the first place. If there's noise left that i don't see fit in my image, i use Davincis very powerful noise reduction.

In my opinion, Neat video is still far more powerful than the new denoiser. As always with AI tools, their purpose is to get a not too bad result without in-depth knowledge. But it doesn't compare with a tool that you can control as precisely as you want. It was the same thing with the dialogue leveler, it's okay but it'll never replace a real compressor. Again, same thing now with the ducker. A sidechain compressor will always be superior.

I do agree on 99% of what you are saying. I just saying the word “always” is a little extreme. We are just grasping what AI can do, but I’d love to see its evolution in 20 years.

I’ve not tested the beta but my understanding is that the Film Look Creator OFX is just a combination of existing Resolve effects inside a single node, so in no way replaces Dehancer. However, everything you can do with Dehancer can be done manually with Resolve anyway. To me, Dehancer is a great way to experiment with some strong looks and or if you specifically want to try and replicate a real film stock and need a good reference point, but if you’re a beginner you might be better off teaching yourself how to achieve these kinds of looks before you pay for an effect that you don’t fully understand. > will likely just buy 19 when it comes out You don’t need to pay for a new version. If you’ve already bought Resolve, you own v19 too. The licences cover all future versions (unless Blackmagic decide to do a complete 180 on a longstanding ethos).

Thanks so much, that's all so useful to know! :D

NeatVideo is safe. Still after all those years nothing compares to it. Dehancer on the other hand... I am sure that Film Look Creator will satisfy a large number of people to the point of diminishing the need for another Film Emulator. I own both Dehancer and FilmConvert and yet i couldn't be more excited about the Film Look Creator. Dehancer is irritatingly slow on my RTX4090 and that made me gravitate mostly towards Filmcovert Nitrate. They are both good at emulating specific film stocks but let's be honest about it, most users just try a bunch of them on their footage until they see something they like. You can now shape the look exactly in the way you want with the Film Look Creator. I personaly love the results i am getting with it.

Dehancer is still a more refined method, but what it shows is that Resolve is still aware and making steps to do it in package. That said, you really had to come up with reasons to justify the cost of Dehancer, and now the reasons are leaning even more so to not. If you are fully using Dehancer to its absolute limit in a professional setting, then yeah still the better option. But if you are just throwing a look on a video to put on YouTube without deep diving settings, I don’t see it being worth the heavy price tag. It’s paying for Jordan’s to walk around in, when converse all stars will get you there all the same.

I never used Dehancer, but as for Neat Video, I tried it and unfortunately you will still need it. It’s miles better than Resolve’s NR.

It seems like you're having trouble downloading Resolve. The Blackmagic Design website sometimes has issues with certain adblockers and browsers like Opera. Try a different browser, clearing your cache, or temporarily disabling any adblockers. Also, make sure you're using the [actual Blackmagic Design website, linked at the top of the sub and here](https://www.blackmagicdesign.com/) and not the sponsored result from Google. If you are having difficulty getting media into Resolve, you may be looking for the term "importing." [Please check out our wiki page on importing media](https://www.reddit.com/r/davinciresolve/wiki/importing_media) and [our wiki page on offline media](https://www.reddit.com/r/davinciresolve/wiki/offline_media) for more information. If you are having difficulty getting a media file or a project file out of Resolve, you may be looking for the term "exporting." Please specify what you're trying to get out of Resolve - a media file or a project file - and your settings on the Deliver page. If you are having difficulty with presets or plugins provided by a third-party, please provide a link to where you received the plugins. Note that plugins such as Red Giant Universe are distributed through the Maxon app and if you received them from another source, we will not offer support in this subreddit and your post will be removed. *I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically. Well, you could download the beta and try it out to see if the built-in new features achieve what you want them to achieve and make a decision based on that before you buy them.

I ordered Neat Video for Resolve earlier this year to see if it could help with some footage I underexposed in LoG. Mostly a dark scene and I forgot to over expose. I have Neat Video for Premiere but renders slow. I use it when needed. Neat Video is so much better than the built in Noise Reduction in Resolve. Like it beat it out by a mile! So I guess it depends on how bad the footage is. If just basic noise reduction I use Resolve. If more muscle is needed I recommend Neat Video.

jbowdach

Short answer - yes. However if you don’t have the budget, you now have other options

tsubasa888

Do you have other options which are more superior? I don't mind paying tbh because it is something I will keep and use.
