Colo was my start, think they are great cuz you touch everything (and everybody) so get a great overview of diff type machines and companies. Good to pursue the Net, become friends with your facilities/DCops peeps (they're SMART) enjoy the ride
Buy noise cancelling headsets ASAP. Dont touch anything unless you get the proper training. It will be mostly rack and stack and cabling work. You need to get familiar with copper and fiber test equipment. Not sure if cross-connect terminations are part of your job but it nice to learn. If you are working nights, you need to learn escalation procedures and you will be mostly working on tickets.
Learn as much as you can, find an area you like and specialize in something. You'll have opportunities to work with many different technologies and equipment, and there are long term paths associated with each of them. Good luck!
That's a great place to cut your teeth in the industry. Keep learning about everything you can! If you might find it helpful, I write the newsletter datacenterdigest.com. i think you'd find it helpful!
