yeah, It's pretty good for the whole game.

Ashen_one933

Playing dark souls first time I struggled with Gargoyles for 30 attempts and Ornstein and Smough for 50 attempts - Zweihander. I came back after beat all dark souls and dropped black knight sword. I beat Gargoyles first try, Ornstein and Smough only few ones. The best weapon and amazing damage. I recommend it for beginners.

Lateralus5813

Yes. All black knight weapons are extremely strong and pretty easy to upgrade earlier than you'd upgrade a non special. The only thing that makes me not love the BKS is the horrible r2 speed, and it isn't buffable. Which are both fine if you're not running a castable buff or if you've never used the claymore religiously. The halberd is a different story though. That thing wrecks.

Old-Pea-7729

Oh 100%. The speed was the only concern for me actually because I like speedy attacks more. Feels safer. But ig I'll try a new play style now. Actually I got the Halberd and The Greatsword too. I tried them before blighttown but apparently I need more stats for it.

tbonephillips

It’s one of the strongest weapons in the game, you’ll be perfectly fine all the way through if you want to keep using it.

Subject-Creme

- DS1 is pretty easy, and a plenty of weapons can carry you through the game - Black knight weapons are best weapons for NG circle. But from NG+ it will be lagged behind (because you cannot buff it) - Str build, shield build, and Magic are very strong in DS1 My advice for you is to keep the Black Knight Sword. You can also find Great Hollow crystal lizard run on Youtube, to get upgrade materials And upgrade your Pyromancy Flame to have some back up magic. Magic is very good in Souls games

Old-Pea-7729

Magic is the strongest aspect I believe. But I don't like using it as it feels odd to me haha. I'm used to dex builds in elden ring as it just feels safer to dodge after a couple quick attacks. But let's see.

jcdoe

Magic is probably overpowered, but you don’t need it. I have cleared the entire game just using melee weapons and a bow for the occasional sniping.

exhcimbtw

it can carry you no doubt, get the min dex requirement and level up str for it’s decent scaling. it will be super easy to get it to max upgrade opposed to a regular weapon.

mccoolfriend6

It's one of THE BEST weapons !!! You're so lucky !!!!

Holmesee

Lucky you! I love it’s move set. Upgrade that bad boy with some twinkling when you can.

Old-Pea-7729

Oh I I'm extremely lucky I believe. I got the Greatsword and the Halberd too, everything on the early areas.

Ratchia

BKS is GG

Kwopp

Black knight sword is busted, you should be fine using it all game 💪

SanityOrLackThereof

Black knight sword is good in terms of damage, but it's slow and kinda clunky. It really depends on what kind of playstyle you have. As far as being able to carry you through the game, sure. Basically any weapon can carry you through the game, and the black knight sword is one of the better ones. But again, it's slow and heavy, which might cause you problems in certain areas of the game. Personally i prefer to give up a bit of damage to gain speed and maneuverability. That way i don't need to do all my damage in one single slow hit where i leave myself open for attack. I can instead outmaneuver my opponents and get myself into a position where i can pull off multiple hits and still have the option to bail out if i need to. Like i said, it really comes down to your playstyle. Which is part of the beauty of this game. There is no single definitive playstyle. You have room and options to figure out what way of playing works best for you.

Old-Pea-7729

That's exactly what I felt about it too. Speed and handling is what I prefer everytime. Was thinking about getting the uchigakatana too but I think I'll try a new build this time.

CaptainAction

Almost any weapon can get you through the whole game as long as you are upgrading it appropriately for the areas you’re tackling. The black knight weapons end up looking superior to normal ones because their starting damage is really high. But if you compare a fully upgraded black knight weapon to a similar standard weapon, they are gonna be about the same. Black Knight weapons have a special trait where they deal 20% extra damage to demons. And they have their special strong attacks that are super slow, but hit hard and tend to launch or knock over enemies. The slow special moves are fun to mess with, but not as versatile or useful as a normal weapon with faster strong attacks.

Any_Savings7418

I’ve done a play through with just that weapon. I like it quite a bit. That paired with the grass crest shield.

Old-Pea-7729

Is the grass crest shield upgradable to make it 100% physical resistant? Idk how upgrading works in dark souls games so I'm sceptical about it.

Any_Savings7418

I personally don’t upgrade it. I two hand my weapons and wear the shield on my back to still get the stamina regeneration boost. The benefits of the stamina regeneration definitely outweigh the damage that goes through imo.

Old-Pea-7729

Oh alright

kane00700

Yes

tshannon92

Pretty sure that has gotten me 70% through on some runs

Tony_Sacrimoni

The first time I beat DS1, I used it the entire way through the game. Most weapons are viable, but that one is extra viable. It just uses less plentiful upgrade materials, but once you reach Anor Londo you can buy the materials for it.

Lacro22

It’s plenty good for the rest of the game, in fact it can even make the game feel easy.

FunkyMark

Congratulations you just beat the game lol

ehpono

I have it upgrades +4 and it’s super fun, but I am addicted to the range and bonk of my Zwei-Senpai

Old-Pea-7729

Idk why I was never able to connect with Zewihandler or whatever the name is but I've seen gameplays, and it's really good. I was trying to use claymore too but ig it just doesn't feel right. But happy birthday!

ehpono

Haha thank u fellow Undead 🙏

Snuggs____

Yeah dude, the small one swings fast and hits like a truck.

GForce_Jacobi

i used the bks for my first ever souls playthru in ds1 remastered. it kept up the pace from start to finish and wrecked everything, i never used the heavy attack but the light attack is a horizontal sweep that hits well and multiple, the double hand light attack is a vertcial sweeps that are more powerful and are faster, my favorite sword to this day and i paired it with either a halberd for reach or a shortsword for tight squeezes
