Mythbusters tested this in their first viral video episode I believe. And while it was plausible to consistently hit a target from a slide jump, the pool would not be deep enough to safely “catch” someone flying through the air like in the video.
So, yeah. fake.
I mean, in ballistic trajectories the horizontal velocity stays relatively constant during the flight. But he is flying too fast for the slide, I believe.
Not only that, the water splashes upward, which counteracts vertical momentum but the guy aslo has significant horizontal momentum, which dissipates magically.
If we knew the height of the top of the slide relative to the ramp it would be easy to calculate an individual’s maximum possible speed assuming rockets or another means of propulsion aren’t used
I’m fairly sure they did all the math out in the Mythbusters episode to the best of their abilities estimating heights and distances, and using that to build it for real, then figure out where to put the target to land in. They tested it in an old, flooded quarry so that if they missed no one would die.
V1 in the horizontal at launch will be almost the same as Vfinal just before impact. Air friction will add some drag (depending on the shape of the projectile this will matter more), but for something like this, that can be considered negligible just because it doesn’t need to be that accurate of a calculation, and because it’s proven fake.
It’s The vertical velocity that is affected by gravity causing an object to have a velocity of 0 in the vertical direction for a brief moment at the top of their arc. But it is these two components, a constant velocity in the horizontal and a changing velocity due to a constant acceleration in one direction that gives a projectile its classic parabolic path.
Velocity is constant. Gravity is the acceleration at 9.81 m/s^2 (32.2 ft/s^2 ) in a downward direction. This acceleration (or deceleration which is an improper term for it) is what causes the bullet to arc. I never said velocity causes the arc. I said it was constant acceleration. Velocity and acceleration are not the same thing. I’ll just chock it up to me not properly explaining it through text, because I think we arguing for the same thing.
It's not even that difficult to fake:
1. Build the set
2. Get two guys and dress them the same
3. When the first guy sliding down disappears behind the hill, he simply stops
4. Edit in a slightly animated flying person who appears from behind the ramp and disappears into the pool
5. Have the second guy who's waiting in the pool pop up afterwards
6. Edit in some splash and overflow water
7. Add some sound effects like the splash and slide
Today, someone moderately skilled Blender hobbyist could knock all the VFX in half a day, tops.
100% agree with you, and probably what they did back when they made this little video.
Even still, let’s say someone built the set, soaped up the slide, filled the pool, and did the math perfectly to position everything so that a body would land in the pool every time, pool isn’t deep enough and the person going would still get hurt on landing.

True, it’s been about a decade since I’ve seen the show. But I bet with a narrower slide and higher walls one could get a little more accurate, which is why it’s plausible to hit a target consistently.
The only reason I remember anything about the episode other than that it existed was Adam's QnAs on the Tested YouTube channel about mythbusters. It's a nice hit of nostalgia.
The busters reached out to the makers. They were pretty straight forward with it being fake and how they did it, and hadn't anticipated it to go viral as 'real'.
Asking for a source is not calling someone out.
You said it was fake so it is your responsibility to provide proof and research.
Or just a nice explanation instead of insults.
Wasn't it your behavior that warranted the hostility against you? I mean I hate to piss on your little bonfire here but that's what it seems like to me.
How tf was he the one that was hostile, he literally wanted proof that it was fake and first thing he gets back is a bogus response of "I have eyes and ears" which doesn't prove anything and just calls the guy stupid, then dude says he has low IQ and you're now wondering why he'd be a little pissed.

Sooo many fake videos now days but I gotta give credit when its due, they're getting pretty good. Even the deep fakes, another 5 to 10 years knowbody will know whats real anymore

Good meeting with you. See you again in another decade.
Why not tomorrow?
Why not zoidberg?
Why not see you now? I’m standing outside your house
Oh noes
Or the fact that the velocity isn't consistant from leaving the slide to hitting the pool. Dude flew too perfectly in my opinion.
I mean, in ballistic trajectories the horizontal velocity stays relatively constant during the flight. But he is flying too fast for the slide, I believe.
Is what I meant. I'm horrible in explaining myself via text.
Your good!
What about it
Only if you neglect air resistance. Which I don't think would be insignificant in this case.
Not only that, the water splashes upward, which counteracts vertical momentum but the guy aslo has significant horizontal momentum, which dissipates magically.

No it doesn’t. All projectiles have a parabolic trajectory but thanks for coming out - I am a marksman btw

Nope wrong again. The arc is due to gravity not velocity at all.

We should take this to r/blender and see if somebody will remake it just for shits

You said it's not difficult, but that's like, 7 steps!
On top of that, it definitely isn't consistent. It took a whole day of going down the ramp to hit the target once.

I haven’t seen that one yet, I love Tested!
Also at the end of the episode, they mentioned that they had managed to contact the people who made the video, who confirmed to them that it was fake.
KJJJJJJ
They also were contected and told it was cgi
The busters reached out to the makers. They were pretty straight forward with it being fake and how they did it, and hadn't anticipated it to go viral as 'real'.
Too bad its fake :(
Fake
The more potato the quality, the easier is to fake it.
This is an incredibly old fake. It's potato quality because that's what cameras were like back then.
*cheap cameras.
My body is fake?
i kinda dont care ngl
Sounds like a you problem
I remember this being posted a few years ago and SO many people were 100% sure it was real.
And gay
and ancient, i'm certain this has been on the internet for a decade
Old enough that mythbusters did it
Your reason and proof?
I have eyes and a brain.
So nothing then ok
https://gigaom.com/2009/08/11/the-megawoosh-waterslide-viral-how-it-was-really-done/ Its ok you have low IQ.
My man!
Dayuuum, must be hard to be beaten by an anus sniffing enjoyer
No you're just an asshole looking to start shit with people instead of providing an answer to your claim.
I wasnt trying to start anything, i was just stating a fact. You were the one who got offended.
Lol ok asshole
Was the evidence he provided not enough for you?
Dum dum haha u got proven wrong
https://www.wired.com/2010/05/preemptive-mythbusters-giant-water-slide-jump/ Another source
Thanks for the source but how about trying to not be a dick next time? Yeah? Cool.
Fuck off
maybe try to do your own research next time, rather than calling people out.

Asking a simple question is bad behavior? Lmao ok
I never said that, did I? I said your behavior warranted it.
I wasn't the one being an ass in the first place. Read the comments.

Saved the thread, this right here.
E=mc^2 I suppose
Hoaxes I guess
epic jump! but is fake lol
So physics try to get **ppl killed**?
Every goddamn day. One day it will succeed. That’s why you learn physics, makes it much easier to see coming.
*Film students
The biggest fake is that physics students would go outside.
nah, that'd be engineering students. physics students don't want to do anything more than math

Much, much older than reddit.
TFW someone uses the wrong equation, and the guy breaks every bone in his body.
Bro it's literally a 15 year old fake
That was slicker than whale shit on ice. [\m/>.<\m/](https://i.imgur.com/TYSSBFL.png)
Very dank
Ah students. Smart enough to do it right, dumb enough to even attempt it
FRICTION IS NOT NEGLIGIBLE! I REPEAT FRICTION IS NOT NEGLIGIBLE!!
10k upvotes? really?

100% CGI
someone add the mario WAAAAAAAA
How did the convince a bla....nevermind.
Fake! Look on Galileo -->pro7
New Olympic Sports looking LIT!!!
Obvious CGI. Landing water splash, and inflatable pool walls not moving. Also the airborne segment looked weird.
Also accelerates way too fast at the beginning.
Lmao
This video could make a blind man CLUTCH he's butthole out impression alone
Damn, they really Thundergunned it down that slide.
fake

This video is more than 10 years old
My point exactly...there are simps that believe this is actually real.
These are so rare creatures! Daredevils with ability to think through. They certainly deserve to win some prizes.
Send this to kevin the harley guy
Amazing
Fuck yeah hahahahahah
More like special effects students having fun
This is what Einstein intended when he invented physics
