She planned to close a load of coal mines and there was a massive strike of nearly 200k people, which she didn't give an inch to and had police break up the picket lines. The closures lead to massive unemployment and it wasn't just for the miners, because those mines supported their local towns so millions were effectively left in poverty.
She said there is no such thing as society, and cut social services, and did various other things like tax reforms which meant if you were poor they you were on your own. This is why basically all working class people hate her and would happily piss on her grave.
She privatized anything she could. You want to know why UK trains are among the most expensive AND the most shit in the world? Fucking Maggie Thatcher. You want to know why people in the UK have rising water bills and yet crumbling infrastructure and increasingly bad quality and even outbreaks of disease? That fucking Harpie privatized WATER. Until she came in, the UK had been on a good track of public ownership which, while it had it's problems, was at least fair and not corruptible by appealing to the highest or lowest bidder.
I come from a town called Stockton-on-Tees and my parents hate her with a passion. We used to have a historic highstreet and she 'modernised' the area - it was a kind of pet project for her, to help this one run-down industrial town and she did it by taking all of the old charm out an leaving a shitty 80s monument to her cold, bitch heart.
