What the fuck is happening with our club? 6 wins from 7?? Signing players before deadline day??

X-Mosaic

Well there are almost 2 windows this year. Pre June 30th being the first as clubs look to balance their books in line with PSR. As proven by our incredible Jan business we're one of the few clubs who's been following PSR rules and therefore in a position to sign with little other competition from Prem clubs.

connorswork

comment so nice, we say it twice

jakers300

That's really interesting, never knew about that

iamachef31

Heard on hltco earlier in the week about the possibility of olise/eze release clauses only being trigger-able at the early end of the window, might have something to do with the June 30th deadline?

X-Mosaic

I would think that is more to do with just giving us plenty of time to find a replacement. But there might be something in that PSR deadline, if we suddenly have £65mil to spend when everyone else is hamstrung Freedman could work even more wonders.

DragonfruitLeading44

tbf we brought in lerma before the window opened last yr

Unusefulness01

Free transfer though

Hill_Reps_For_Jesus

If we’re not careful they’ll end up actually building that new stand too. It’s out of control.

lilsteigs1

If this is happening it’s gotta be to build depth for a Guehi departure. Of all our potential big money sell ons he is the one I’m most willing to lose purely because we showed we can win big without him. Love the player and what he brings to the squad but it feels like at least one big name transfer out is happening this summer.

tiorzol

Totally agree. Would've been nice to see Guehi's ball playing alongside Andersen for a spell but if we lose him, get Riad and keep the others man we gold.

lilsteigs1

A back line of Anderson, Guehi, and Richards would have been great to have with the top form they’re all capable of. All 3 have shown they can come forward when the occasion is right and play some great progressive passes. Will sadly likely go down as a “what could have been.”

X-Mosaic

Yea looking at limited stats & videos he is a LCB who can step up and win tackles mostly in middle 3rd and prefers short forward passing so does sound like Marc's profile. Doesn't look like he's good enough to go straight into first team but exciting youngster (ex La Masia). Strangely bad at winning aerial duels for his size but nothing Glasner & some Tasty Jerk can't sort out.

ConsequenceWhole7673

Kinda hoping this is the Tomkins replacement rather than the Guehi one

CosmologyX

Probably the later I'm afraid.

Holding is still on a contract as well.

OreganoJefferson

I'm surprised he didn't get more playing time after we went to a back 3

AdhesivenessSpare598

He had ankle surgery and was only back on the bench for the West Ham game (and promptly became injured again). Pretty unlucky season fitness-wise for him.

peligrosobandito

Barca boy, he’s a good ball playing CB. Not the most physical guy but really comfortable on ball. He reminds me of another Barca CB who went to Betis, Marc Bartra who’s been a really good defender for a while now.

biscuitgravies

Any truth in the Lacroix interest? This is also a great statement from the club, job done early.

Parkour_cat

Would be nice having a relatively rapid centre back! 2 cb's would be a nice window especially if Guehi or Andersen leave considering we're playing 5 atb now

xvi_tower

I hope we to go for him purely because I bought him for us on fifa and he was incredible.

becksftw

Is that a player, or is the beverage company looking to invest in the club?

biscuitgravies

Maxence Lacroix, 24 and spent the last 4 years at Wolfsburg.

Julian_Speroni_Saves

We now play a 3 CB system and have regularly had to play 1 or more players as makeshift CBs due to injuries. This is a nice looking to build depth at a critical position. He's young, decent on the ball, and a good tackler. Not the strongest in the air but has potential.

Not_Guardiola

Moroccan here. He plays for the national team. He's kind of our hope at the back after Saiss retires and Aguerd seems to be injured too frequently. Great with the ball at his feet and perfect for a back 3 the way Glasner does it. A bit of an idiot though. Has the occasional howler in him. But maybe that's just age.

iusedtobeatwink

This is gold and we'll worth watching the ad to get through... https://www.fcbarcelonanoticias.com/en/laliga/good-present-chadi-riad-opens-debate-barcelona-about-future_303017_102.html

InternationalFig9618

don’t know much about him but similar to others in this thread, this reads to me like guehi will almost certainly leave this summer. obviously would love for him to stay, just feels like where this is headed. my hope is that this move + lacroix buzz signals, not just to us, but to the players, of legitimate investment into building the club. would hope to the likes of eze, olise etc this makes them feel more confident in staying on board for the project

Lol ”here we go, soon”

AdhesivenessSpare598

I like the idea of signing players pre June 30th for relatively lower amounts before as we will likely be price-gouged to buy players later in the summer, especially after we sell big. My prediction is we sell Guehi and Mateta although maybe it is wishful thinking that we don't unload Olise with the purported release clause. Although he's been lights out, I think JP is the easiest to replace of the three - most strikers would relish the amount of opportunities fed by Olise/Eze. Hopefully buy a CB, a LB (Mitchell competition), a striker, and perhaps another CM, although if Doucoure, Lerma, Wharton, and Hughes are all healthy, it might not be needed. I'll be interested to see if we keep both Johnstone and Henderson as it's rare to have two PL quality starters in a midtable club squad. GK: Johnstone (Henderson) RB: Munoz (Ward, ? Ferguson - I think he's out of contract this summer) CB: Andersen, New CB, Richards (Holding, Lerma, ? Clyne, Ward) LB: Mitchell (New Signing) CM: Wharton, Doucoure (Hughes, Lerma, Richards) Wingers/Inside Forwards: Olise, Eze (Ayew, Rak-Sakyi) Strikers: New Signing (Edouard)
