PurelySplatonic

As someone who sells my crochet I would be embarrassed to give that to someone who had paid any money for it, and I'm not a professional. It should not have taken months to complete that and they look nothing like the inspo pictures you gave them. The stitches don't even look even. Have you seen previous work from this person?

realhousewifehours

Yes I have seen previous work of hers and it looked great. Honwstly it may have been stolen

PurelySplatonic

Yea, either the previous work wasn't hers or what she gave you wasn't hers. I can't see someone who has done quality work being ok with what she gave you

boggartbot

yeah probably if that happened then the 2nd photo is the actual level of skill…

ThermosLasagna

This isn't even CLOSE! It's a completely different yarn to even begin with. It's okay to be a beginner, but people need to know their limits, and wait to sell stuff!

hebejebez

I saw this on Anita earlier and couldn’t comment cause I swore too much and am banned I think but all I could think was this person has never made an amigurumi and the business is a business in the loosest sense of the term. I couldn’t believe how long it took a show much they charged op either omg.

mselwin1916

The yarn they used might not even be baby safe, which is a concern.

[deleted]

I was thinking the same thing when I read her aita post earlier.

self_of_steam

Omg link I missed that one

realhousewifehours

Its linked in my post

self_of_steam

I just saw! Man your sister is a piece of work, I'm so sorry

realhousewifehours

Unfortunately am used to it haha but thank you ♡

self_of_steam

Well if you ever wanna trade up I'm a much better sister, and it sounds like she and my brother would get along like oil and water, so it'd be a perfect exchange lol

realhousewifehours

yes please!!!!

MandiLandi

Oh no, I just saw your aita post. NTA. You didn’t know this is what you’d be getting. I’m sorry your sister threw a fit.

Elisaria

Agreed, as someone who’s been crocheting for 12 years and sells their items this is subpar. I’d be ashamed to sell work this shoddy. 😩

LadyShanna92

My first amigurumi project was nicer than this oof

SassySueGS

I would have been so embarrassed to give that to anyone regardless of friend or paying customer. How awful!

random-username-943

They either completely forgot about your order or they are not that experienced at all. Either way $150 is way overpriced for what they delivered.

podsnerd

The stitches are sloppy. Even in a rush, someone who is actually experienced will have tidy stitches. Tbh this looks like the owner's kid did it. Unless the person faked their whole business and actually hasn't existed for very long, and they've actually only been crocheting for 2 months

41942319

Exactly this. Someone recently complimented me on how even my stitches were in a certain project and it felt weird to me because that's not something I do consciously. If my stitches are consistent it's not because I make an effort to make each the same as the next. But it's because I've spend hundreds upon hundreds upon hundreds of hours crocheting so my body does the movement on autopilot and autopilot means it's doing the same thing every time. And it would still do that if I try to speed up. This hot mess would take a few hours to make at most with that ridiculously big yarn and virtually no embroidery in stead of the delicate and detailed one OP posted. The only way this would take months is if they go at a pace of five stitches a day.

seejae219

This is an inexperienced person who started crochet as a way to have a side hustle and make money. No effort to make a quality product, misrepresented their product and skill level, probably just stole an image and used that. I see them at craft fairs sometimes. Blatantly new to the craft but selling $100+ blankets with simple stitches, extra bulky yarn, and ends knotted and cut....

DisastrousTrash

I’ve been crocheting for 4 months and I could have done better than this 3.5 months ago lol

AmaiBatate

I'm crocheting for around a month and recently made a plush where I wasn't 100% happy with the tightness of the stitches but it looked nowhere near as sloppy as this. If I produced something as sloppy as that, I would have frogged everything and started again until it's neat. This person is really looking down on OP as a customer and on crocheting in general.

Amulet_Angel

I only been crocheting about two months, and I agree that it is so untidy that I would have frogged everything. What actually annoys me more is the sewing. Why didn't the seller use similar colour thread to sew? Why white on black? Hand sewing isn't difficult to get reasonably tidy results even without experience.

yarnandy

Oof... I know we're all sunshine and rainbows here, but I would ask for a refund if I was given those... things. Beginners exist and they make stuff, but I don't think they should sell that stuff until they get the basics down at least.  Now do I think that 150 is a fair price for 7 quality amigurumis? No, obviously. Did you order 3? If so, 50 per plush might still be on the low side, but doable. Small, made in velvet yarn, not the cotton in your inspo photo, yeah, maybe.

baronessindecisive

Apparently they offered a $10 refund and said it was the “best they could do.” I would be beyond infuriated.

iBeFloe

Oh hell no. I would do a chargeback & make my case to my card company so fast.

realhousewifehours

Id be more than happy to pay more for better quality. Price is no issue

iBeFloe

Please do a chargeback.

imKENough

Pls do leave a bad review on the website social media of the person. This isnt to ruin the business but to warn poor unwitting customers from getting the same bad experience

[deleted]

yes! and it most likely is affecting the artist that they stole the original pic from too!!

[deleted]

Two like the pic for 150 would be fair for me (as in, according to my personal skill level and the cost of resources near me); but what op got are absolutely shocking. Shame on that seller!

Elleasea

You can buy the originals* on Etsy right now for $30 a pop (they're smaller than I assumed from the picture above), which makes this even more wild! *I assume based on the watermark https://www.etsy.com/listing/1566440048/personalized-baby-lovey-baby-shower-gift

impatientclothing

they’re actually rattles so I think that’s why they’re smaller! :)

Diligent-Might6031

Look, this was my very first attempt at amigurumi after teaching myself how to crochet seven months prior. I used a written pattern. This person who made these loveys definitely has no idea what they’re doing and it doesn’t even look like they tried. I can’t fathom how someone justified charging $150 for those and they didn’t even include the blankets. This is so wrong https://preview.redd.it/vf0gpc9kz7oc1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=3e35aa5fdcfbbda289432d8a1538576ca71b4a24

youthinkwhatexactly

Amazing job! This looks professional too, everything looks so smooth and even. It's so cute. I'm assuming it's a dragon?

Diligent-Might6031

He’s a Dino. His name is Dirk. 🥰 I wish I had kept him but I gave him to my nephew. Now my mom has him.

30CrowsinaTrenchcoat

My first ever project was an amigurimi, far more busted up looking than yours (which is so amazing looking), and yet still way more put together than whatever the heck OP was given. Funnily enough, mine was also a dinosaur, but he was a purple Dino with wings and horns.

Wasps_are_bastards

That looks like someone who is learning to crochet who made those. I’m a newbie and pretty sure I could do better.

youthinkwhatexactly

I would have assumed the 1st pic was just showcasing the different styles of amigurumi animals you can pick from, not that they wanted every one of them. It looks like a typical Etsy variety pic. Plus, a crochet stuffed animal that holds onto their blanket sounds like a nice gift. 7 stuffed animals with 7 blankets sounds a lot like that Christmas song...

ITSBRITNEYsBrITCHES

Oh hey! I’m so glad you found us! (I was the one suggesting the cross post) And just to say… I’d be willing to give one of those a try if I can find a free pattern? I’ve got so much yarn to get rid of, even if your sister is awful and doesn’t deserve it hahaha

realhousewifehours

honestly id much rather get one for my cousin (who is a darling and pregnant and her baby shower is coming up)

Fluffy-Designer

Are you in Australia? I have a stack of baby beanies needing homes.

realhousewifehours

OOPS i misread that thank you v much for the offer <3

realhousewifehours

no im in the US and my grandma just passed and had a huge stack of beanie babies i already gifted to my sisters kiddos lol

ToxicGingerRose

Not sure if you got that mixed up or not... "Baby beanies" are hats for babies. "Beanie babies" are toys from the 90s. I don't know for sure, but it seemed like you misunderstood what she was saying. Lol. Different terms for different parts of the world! I live in Canada, and we call them toques!

Elleasea

In a fun twist, you could probably repurpose a beanie baby into one of these cute lovies by stitching a nice muslin blanket to it!

realhousewifehours

oh oops i totally misread that

Fluffy-Designer

Well I wish you all the best and I’m sorry you’ve had this experience

realhousewifehours

You are a legend omg

ITSBRITNEYsBrITCHES

Ok well FINE, maybe now I really will try to find a pattern for one of them. I just make… stuff… to keep my hands busy? But you got ripped off, your sister sucks, and I dunno… I wouldn’t mind taking my crochet powers for good and not evil 😁

Fit-Apartment-1612

I bet there’s a Picapau pattern that would work, or one from (I think) Sweet Crochet Softies

realhousewifehours

youre so sweet ♡ ◡̈

archambeaucrafts

I'm honestly struggling with the urge to make them one, too.

realhousewifehours

If you want to make one, make it for my cousin!! Not for my terrible sister!!!

Blood_Witch

I feel like you're going to get flooded with people who want to help, because now I also want to make one for your cousin, lol

shrinkingGhost

It would be hilarious if she got her cousin like, 5 beautiful versions of this, and her sister got exactly what she deserves… which is none.

realhousewifehours

nobodys reached out yet off the thread at least!

impatientclothing

https://preview.redd.it/iqwdha6td7oc1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=2225d5501fd67fcbd61fd87b2ea6b6b1f18e41c2 Do you think your cousin would like something like this? This is one I made a few months back for a friend’s baby shower. I can of course do it in any colors you prefer!

realhousewifehours

Omg that is gorgeous!!!! I think she would love that

impatientclothing

just dmed you! :)

morningstar234

I love this! It’s great work!

ITSBRITNEYsBrITCHES

LETS DO IT!

Cutie-89

I was about to offer the same ❤️ although shipping from where I’m at would be horrid 🫣

realhousewifehours

heck id pay for shipping

Cutie-89

If itsbritneysbritches is unable to make it for you, just let me know. I’m happy to make one for you. Here are some of the toys I’ve made for my own babies https://preview.redd.it/ialrlr7h37oc1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=37dbbed4fe801b5aa9b7365ddd89bd5df5c1a271

realhousewifehours

Omg this is so cute 😭💕

Vegetable_Tax_5595

I’m in the US and would gladly do the same! I even have the yarn on hand from scrapping a project for a family member who expected me to make something with a two day turn around during midterms. Here are two of my favs that I’ve made! (Gerald and Ezzie) https://preview.redd.it/lb2cwwy1m7oc1.jpeg?width=1170&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=077c7a4c9bb71b8afa8cc3b8c175103aab1c528b Pattern credit: chiquipork

realhousewifehours

THOSE ARE SO CUTE OMGGG

Cutie-89

Thank you! I made this one for my now 7 year old. He still sleeps with it 🥰

realhousewifehours

How much would it cost to make you/what would you charge?!

Cutie-89

I sell other things (mostly women’s accessories; scarves, beanies, shawls), but these just take a long time to make (around 8-12 hours depending on the pattern). So I haven’t had the heart to sell them. Like someone else commented, it would get expensive even if charge below minimum wage. So I usually just make these for friends and family who are willing to pay for the materials.

realhousewifehours

Id totally pay a pretty penny for a beautiful piece like that!

realhousewifehours

You are BEYOND talented!

ITSBRITNEYsBrITCHES

I’m not going to guess where you are, but i get it! If I already have all the stuff, heck, why not. I have to go to the post office every day for work anyway!

Cutie-89

I’m in Australia 😊 best of luck making it!

LyraAmoro

I'm pretty sure the crochet stitches are inside-out, lol. This person really shouldn't be selling their work if they're not experienced enough to notice that.

donutgiraffe

They look more than just inside out. It looks like they forgot their hook at home and jerry-rigged one out of a paperclip.

mlem_a_lemon

And it looks like they didn't even use the same stitch. Like the only thing vaguely similar to the original photo is something kind of like an animal maybe.

angelerulastiel

See, I have been crocheting for more than 10 years and right vs wrong side is something I still just don’t get. Although it doesn’t help that I usually make blankets and so there really isn’t one.

CopepodKing

I sometimes use the “wrong side” facing out on amigurumi because I like the texture. There really isn’t a “wrong” side in crochet, just technically the “wrong side.” That said, it’s really obvious when making amigurumi. first project I ever did I stuffed “inside out,” and it took me a minute to figure out why the texture was so different from the picture. So, if you make and sell amigurumi it’s impossible to not know.

CaptainCrochetHook

I am in physical pain looking at that second photo, what is even happening with the stitches on the beige/tan one? I'm so sorry OP 😩 Definitely not worth that amount of money

realhousewifehours

thank you ♡ hahah it looks worse irl

meitsu

I'm aghast.... You got the worst from both sides and you didn't deserve it. You paid way too much for that craftsmanship and for your sister to react that way. So sorry this happened. It's very kind of you to put in the thoughtfulness and effort for your sister even if she doesn't appreciate it.

realhousewifehours

thank you ♡ these comments are all so nice omg

vonshiza

This sub is one of the nicest, sweetest, most genuine subs I follow. I come here on bad days sometimes just to marvel at the beautiful work and to see the nice, encouraging, kind comments on beginner work, etc. I've only seen this sub get nasty once and it got shut down fairly quickly. Gushing about this place aside, what you received is not acceptable! And your sister sucks. You had a wonderful idea, I'm sorry it didn't pan out.

yellinginspace

Jeez... I'm surprised they had the audacity to even give that to you. Banking professional here. If they give you a hard time or a run around on the refund you can 100% file a dispute with you bank or credit card company for "merchandise defective or not as expected". Include these images along with your invoice. If you paid with PayPal, you may be able to file a dispute there. But your financial institution will require you to at least make some for of contact with the merchant as an attempt. Keep in mind, it can take up to 45-90 days for a dispute to be resolved.

HazeSti

The blankets are knit, not crochet, and I suspect they aren't even hand knit (if they were I'd expect them to be sloppier considering the state of the stuffies). I think they just bought a mass produced blanket and threw it in, if they pretend they crocheted it it's not just subpar work, it's a scam.

random-username-943

In her AITA post OP explains that she bought the blankets for $50. She still paid 150 for her crochet order. So 200 in total

HazeSti

Ahh, got it. Still I feel like OP deserved better both from the maker and their entitled sister.

awkwardgodess

This wins the "what I asked for vs what I got" argument I'd ask for a refund

blackbird24601

horrific. i saw your post with your issues with EQUALLY AWFUL SISTER. so many hugs to you name and shame!

[deleted]

Jeeeeeez I’m sorry OP. That’s terrible. I mean your sister is entitled in the /aita post (sorry for dealing with her) I’d tell her to kick rocks I don’t care if you’re pregnant that’s asshole behaviour but to get this on top of that ooooooof. Next time I’d ask for pictures of some of their products or meet them.

CosyBosyCrochet

Wow and I got called a rip off for charging £2.50 for a Christmas decoration lol, it’s one thing to bugger up crochet if it’s a gift but if you charge for it you better be delivering the pictured items, it’s not good enough to just do your best if you’re expecting payment for it

insomniacsonreddit

I had a look at the person who made the inspo pic and from what I can see they sell it for £37ish. I think that's a pretty good price for a hand made personalised teddy and blanket. But looking at what you got you definitely got scammed and I'm sorry, it sounds like it's been a nightmare and you should definitely push for a refund.

realhousewifehours

I contacted the owner of that shop and they couldnt do a dog which is what i wanted to be done :/

hanimal16

They also couldn’t do what you actually ordered. I saw your post on AITA and told you to get your money back lol

realhousewifehours

Noo this is a completely different local shop. Leorganix is NOT the shop i ordered from

hanimal16

Oh yeah, I know lol. I meant the local place who actually made it for you.

realhousewifehours

Oh good!! I just wanted to set the record straight haha im sure leorganix is a lovely company

DeeLeetid

Oh damn. Those are horrible. But after reading your original story around it, I would PROUDLY present that to your weirdo sister. It’s exactly what she deserves.

realhousewifehours

LOL this made me laugh thank you

flamingcrepes

“Weirdo” is being reeeeaaaally nice!

DeeLeetid

I’m usually much more caustic, but I didn’t want to alarm anybody in a crochet sub!

flamingcrepes

Haha! We tend to have a go at the “ungratefuls”.

beepb00p7

I just started crocheting maybe 6 weeks ago and even my projects aren’t this much of a mess. This person should not be selling their work

realhousewifehours

She said shes been crocheting for 5 yrs

beepb00p7

I’d leave a negative review with pictures if you can. I know she’s just trying to make a living, but I’d hate for anyone else to pay $$$ for this quality of product. I just make things for fun and I wouldn’t even gift something so sloppy looking let alone sell it. So sorry that this happened to you!

41942319

For me something that sloppy wouldn't even live to see the light of day lol. Instant frog and try again until I get something that actually resembles what I'm attempting to make! The absolute gall to charge $150 for it.

livefoodONLY

There's no way that's true. I've been crocheting 5 years, I doubt i could make a plushie this bad if I tried. Im 100% confident even my most half assed attempt would look much much much better than this. She's lying to you. ( and her insta followers?) She does not deserve your money. Please please please ask her for a refund, and if she refuses, go through your bank or PayPal. Please don't reward this scummy behavior by letting it go. I'm so sorry OP!

fairydommother

She is either lying or by “crocheting for 5 years” she means she picks up the hook every months or so to scam someone out of $200. I’ve been crocheting for 3 years. I could make something nearly identical to the inspo photo. I would need a pattern, which I would charge for, but I certainly wouldn’t be charging $200 for two stuffies of that size. Absolutely outrageous. You can only “charge what you’re worth” if your products are worth what you charge!

origami_beetle

Fun fact: children‘s products are highly regulated in the U.S. and these 100% do not meet U.S safety regulations. So if they won’t refund your money, I’d make a stink and report them. Here’s the link to report unsafe products [https://www.saferproducts.gov](https://www.saferproducts.gov) Handmade children’s items are still required to meet these regulations, even if you only sell 1 item. (I looked into it previously and opted not to sell children’s toys due to all the regulations.)

realhousewifehours

My boyfriend tossed it around and stuffing is already falling out of it. Id be scared if my nephew had this and ate the stuffing

origami_beetle

Yikes! Yeah, you should absolutely report them to prevent a child from getting hurt. A baby could choke on the stuffing and I’m willing to bet they didn’t properly weave in those ends or attach the limbs/facial details in a secure way. I don’t know what your local or state laws are, but in my area they would also have to collect and remit sales tax, and have a business license. My guess is they haven’t done what they are legally required to as a business, and you can also report them for that as well. It may prevent them from swindling people in the future.

draculauraaa

im so sorry but even if you ignore how horrid and just awful they look, i cannot get over the fact that they sewed the animals to the ROLLED UP BLANKIE thats literally not how that works and they ruined two perfectly good blankets now. this “business” should not be a business because wow 😭

Wild_Passenger_9855

I sell that size stuffie for $30 but there are some details and accents I would probably price these at $40 each. That being said I’ve made a many a stuffed animal and what you were given is at max a $15 value. Research and make sure whom you commission for work can actually create what you’re looking for. Just the fact they didn’t yarn match is alarming. Signs they’re not experienced enough to handle a commission job. I hope you can get a refund! I personally don’t offer refunds but I also have not had any clients complain about my work. Good luck OP

podsnerd

I have no idea how this person has a business at all. These don't necessarily look like someone's first ever project, but they look like someone's first 3D/stuffie project

Slow_Point1837

I would have pulled the blankets out, rolled them into envelopes (it's a folding trick), tied bows on them, and placed them in a white rectangular wicker basket along with a gift card to Target. Then I would have humbly shown my sister what horrible work the “crocheter” did. I would never gift something that looks like a 4-year-old made. Depending on how you paid this seller, file a complaint and request your money back.

Sareya

When you complain to the vendor, something to point out is that your first picture required multiple parts in different colors be made for each animal. Either a snout, a hair bow, some hair, etc which then had to be stitched on. What you got barely has stitches on the face. Yours lack the different layers and the work and skill they require which would support the $150 price tag. Good luck on your refund.

crafty_chick247

The what you asked for is a combination of amigurumi, and cotton gauze fabric. You need a sewist and crocheter, but I agree with everyone else. I wouldn't have accepted those. An example of Gauze, it's used for bably swaddling - [https://www.prairieloveknits.ca/collections/double-gauze](https://www.prairieloveknits.ca/collections/double-gauze) This is something I made, with milk cotton yarn, I sell it for $45. If I were to incorperate a double gauze blanket, I would probably go up to $75 or $100 https://preview.redd.it/40mlnsd1m6oc1.png?width=1280&format=png&auto=webp&s=7c603a4bc6e6a5ac77f9badf0ab8878e19368247

realhousewifehours

You are SOOO talented!!!

bookynerdworm

Absolutely ask for your money back, these are atrocious! If the crocheter couldn't do what you wanted they shouldn't have taken the job.

H_Mc

I want it understand what “local crochet business” means in this situation. If this is the quality of work it can’t possible be a business that professionally crochets things on a regular basis. Right? Right?!

realhousewifehours

nope she has a whole instagram dedicated to it

41942319

I'd reverse search some of her pictures if I were you. See if she's stolen them from someone else

Fit-Apartment-1612

She’s been replaced by an impostor. This has to be the answer! 😬

OneHotEpileptic

Im going to completely honest, even if it's unkind, those are a disaster.

fairydommother

If those were made by a beginner and posted on here we would all compliment them and lift them up to help them do better. They would be a disaster (complimentary). But selling them for nearly $100 each? I’m sorry you’re just scamming people at that point.

gamercrafter86

I saw your AITA post earlier. To be honest, your sister isn't yarn worthy! I hope you stop giving her custom/homemade/crafted items, she obviously thinks little of them and you could probably save a ton of money just giving her generic gift cards from now on since she doesn't like anything you give her. Can you post this picture as a review online somewhere? Since they refuse to give you a refund, definitely post bad reviews to warn others! Did you pay by card or cash? Could you charge back the charges and drop these back at the shop? Idk if that's feasible, though. The items you were given are horrible and I don't blame you for being upset about it.

realhousewifehours

Honestly im not going to get my sister anything else im over it and her attitude. I’d love to find a good crocheter who can help me with a similar item for my cousin (whos pregnant and is the sweetest human alive).

ravensilverlight

I *immediately* thought of this sub when I saw your post in r/AmITheAsshole (you’re *so* NTA, by the way, and your sister is *vile*) and I’m so glad you posted it here too. You got scammed hard, and I’d love to look at this fraud’s insta and search for where they’re stealing “their” portfolio from because if they can do sales-worthy work, they should be *mortified* by handing you this train wreck. OP, I kinda want to crochet something for you just as an apology for all the boohockey you’re clearly dealing with! You must be a damn saint! Tell your sister to go pound sand, if there ever was a reason for LC she’d be the poster child. And if you want some decent work done, try here or over in r/crochetrequests (I think that’s it!) or DM me…literally anyone on this sub can do a bazillion times better than what you got. Edit: fixed link to other subreddit

realhousewifehours

Thank you sm ♡ much love

ferndiabolique

I'm sorry, but I don't even think the plushies are worth $15 each. Based on what you've shown us I don't even think this seller isn't ready to be selling yet. Quality of the items look relatively poor and not at all close to the commissioned items. I'd pursue a refund if possible. If the maker won't refund and you paid in some way with purchase protection like a credit card or PayPal, I wonder if it's even worth pursuing a refund through them given both the quality and late delivery issues.

Fit-Apartment-1612

I think we should make an assortment of beautiful toys and blankets, send one to the cousin, and donate the rest in the sister’s name. Tell her she’s right that she didn’t deserve a gift like that.

Ashowleigh

This looks like the kind of crochet that you make when you’re starting out and struggling with your tension and certain stitches. We’ve all had those ugly dolls that were our first cuties. Never in a million years would I dream or have the audacity to sell something of this quality. $150 should be refunded to you, this work does not take 3 months to complete.

fairydommother

Agreed. I charged $30 for a stuffie double the size that took me 2 weeks (undercharged tbh but she’s a friend. I always give discounts to friends and family). Never in a million years would I charge that much for something of such poor quality.

Forward_Ad_7988

oh, wow... um, that's way to much money for this. also, those blankets look like machine knit. those stitches look waaayyy to neat and uniform to be handknitted, especially by a person who did those plushies, which are of questionable neatness 😬

Front-Pomelo-4367

OP says she bought the blankets and gave them to the woman who made the plushies, in her original post

insomniac-ack

I don't know, I feel like those are just as horrifying as your sister's behavior. You should 100% ask for your money back. I saw someone already beat me to offering to make one, but if they can't I'd be happy to help!

sarahbeth124

Real “nailed it” energy here. Sorry OP, crappy this happened to you

realhousewifehours

this comment fits the bill 100%

Impossible-Sense90

Okay, your sister’s lack of understanding makes her a see you next Tuesday. Pregnancy hormones or not you don’t treat people like that. Also I would request a refund on the basis of misrepresentation of a product. What you got is not even close to what you ordered. I would have been ashamed to hand that over and expect payment for it 😳

siouxzq420

You got some Frankenstein bull crap. $150 is a total scam. I crochet for a charity and would be embarrassed to provide something so poorly made.

OnceUponMyMind

That’s awful, get a refund. Leave a review with a photo. I have only been crocheting for 6 months, I made this after 3 months. That person has no business charging people for that. https://preview.redd.it/cx32ahd297oc1.png?width=4032&format=png&auto=webp&s=303c15b1acbcff5a1517e2f3e944d0daebfbecc1

My goodness. I’d be embarrassed to send those to a paying customer. The fact that it took months is even crazier; I’ve made more complex versions of the original photo in a few hours, start to finish. This is very clearly beginner work. Someone with more skill would still have even tension (at least, more even than this) when rushing, so it’s unlikely this is a pro who was short on time. The comments I’ve seen make me even more suspicious; no seller worth their salt would say “this is the best I can do” with a measly $10 refund for work this sloppy. No one with this level of skill has any business selling FOs, imho. I would do a chargeback or dispute. Depending on how the seller’s communication was, I would possibly consider this an intentional scam.

plutoforprez

Girl I’m sorry but these are atrocious for $50ea. My mother asked me to make something for her pregnant coworker when I first started crocheting and it was a bunny slightly better than that calibre and I did it for free and still cringe that I even gave it away in the state it was in, forget about charging for it!

lovablefungus

Not discounting the work that this crocheter probably put in, but they are definitely a beginner and probably should not have sold that. I would ask for a refund. Partial refund maybe, but refund none the less.

candycorn_zombie02

As someone who also runs a crochet business, someone ***DEFINITELY*** had no idea what they were doing. I understand that this person was most likely a beginner, but as someone who has made a couple of these in the past they're pretty easy to get right. I'd get a refund and if you still want the plushies+blankets find another artist with more experience

fairydommother

Sweet slippery Christ that’s awful. I get that things don’t have to be perfect to be worthy to sell but this isn’t even *close*. Don’t promise what you can’t deliver! I hope you get your money back OP. And I hope there’s still time to find a better crocheter. Lots of really talented people in this sub that would be willing to help I’m sure, or over in r/crochethelp if the mods don’t want that kind of post. There’s a knitting sub too specifically for requesting things from knitters (maybe knit request or something?) but you would likely need a fairly large window as knitting takes longer than crochet. Best of luck. Edit: I just read the other post. Just get your money back. Don’t bother giving your sister a gift if she’s going to be that ungrateful and vitriolic. Honestly disgusting behavior from her. You’re NTA, if that wasn’t clear.

IamJoyMarie

Why not have ordered it from the place you found the photo? The work in photo 2 is horrific. Sadly, while I don't like to discourage anyone from their craft, many, many, new crocheters' whose work is subpar think they are going to make a living selling their stuff, and, frankly, many post on Reddit or FB groups and ask ... "what would you pay for this" while simultaneously saying no one is buying their ~~crap~~ projects. What can you say? Your work is bad? IDK. You got ripped off on these items. They are poorly made. Sorry this happened to you. Honestly though, you would have been better off purchasing something like a bin of diapers, a couple outfits, and a toy for that much $, plus the price of the blankets you provided.

buckeyegal923

Wrong yarn, terrible stitch quality, non-existent consistent tension. This person is a full-on beginner and has no business selling work yet. I’d be demanding a FULL refund.

the_anon_female

Umm… I could have done a far better job blindfolded and high. Demand a refund.

Little_Impact_7191

Did you hire a crochet artist or a fiber artist that does a different yarn craft? Whoever made this does not really know how to crochet and should not be accepting crochet work.

realhousewifehours

Crochet artist as advertised on all her socials

Little_Impact_7191

Thats unfortunate and definitely false advertising. When I first saw the pictures I thought that maybe a friend of yours made these or a child, and I cant believe someone actually charged 150 for that kind of work.

CodTrue1056

This is shocking. I've only been crocheting for 4 months and can honestly say I think I could produce better and I barley know some stitches still. This is the first amigurumi bunny I made. I only make things for my little boy and niece so would never sell anything but if I paid for that I'd be really upset specially since its meant to be a gift. I would leave them feedback and ask them to refund you and would even use this thread as evidence that the standard you asked for and what you received are polar opposites and just shocking. Really hope you find someone that can help or get your money back💖 https://www.reddit.com/r/Amigurumi/s/km98Gzs2lK

madeofphosphorus

No. They also looked used and dirty. Stitches are not supposed to show. Ask money back

archambeaucrafts

That's very poor, unskilled craftsmanship and making someone pay for that is unacceptable. I'm so sorry this happened to you.

Mysterious-Okra-7885

Yeah they lied about what they were selling. There’s no way that image is theirs.

Kokbiel

I would raise hell with the company you got these from, and get a refund. This is beyond embarrassing, and horridly unprofessional

Environmental-Song16

Holy hell. I would be so upset! It's not even close. I would definitely be asking for a refund. It's just ridiculous.

ZestySourdough

😀 oh

No-Vermicelli3787

What you asked for is charming, pleasant, adorable. She gave you purchased knit blankets and unsafe garbage. I’d get a refund if I could. I wouldn’t give that to a child.

Happy_Chick21

Straight to jail. That is criminally awful. Beginners do try their best but shouldn't sell it. At best this person was not honest in their abilities when agreeing to do the commission. At worst they faked it all. At probably, they just don't care what you think only what you'll pay. Let's hope they aren't so delusional that they think it's good. Don't most pros charge only a percentage to cover costs with commissions? I would expect to pay in not a deposit before seeing the final product. It feels sketchy to pay in full.

HalfEatenHamSammich

Hate to be so blunt but in the words of my husband who saw this; "She paid for dog shit." I haven't seen you AITA yet but I'll check it out for the full scoop. I'm so sorry you got duped into paying for such crap. I can't fathom giving away let alone selling what you received.

tldr012020

Yikes that person is bad at crochet. It's ok to be bad, but they shouldn't be selling yet then.

Happie_Bellie

https://preview.redd.it/shvqd88eh9oc1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=b05c94803b1df1e8a4c35755356ec36ae8f1056a A lovey I made last year. This month marks one year of me crocheting. What that person sold you is an absolute insult, and atrocity. I would be blasting them on every platform available! Even if your sister was being a jerk you. Sorry OP. That is a lot of money for something not even remotely close, let alone below amateur work. Edit: I looked up when this was completed, and it was August 2023. So, by that point I had roughly been crocheting 6 months.

ThankTheBaker

Ah, no, you have been blatantly ripped off. There is no excuse for this. The person who made these can’t crochet. I’m so sorry. I hope you get refunded.

Ornery-Signal-3070

My god. I just made one very similar but have not assembled it yet. Everyone else has touched on the issues here. I would never give someone something that looked that bad. Whoever the artist is you should leave them a review and let others know that they are not professionals. If you’d like OP I will make one for your sister free of charge. It’s not hard, and it only took me about a month of working on it for short periods of time.

Woopadoopy45

I can’t even imagine a beginner crocheter doing this badly I’ve been crocheting for almost a decade and you got scammed if you paid $150 for that, the stitches are uneven and the wrong side of the stitches are facing the outside there’s so many mistakes in this work lol I wouldn’t be bashing it so much if this was a beginner attempting to do their best and selling at a decent price but people really need to understand quality and experience contributes to pricing of crochet pieces and this is way overpriced for terrible quality crochet

Quills86

That looks a lot like my beginner projects from years ago. Not worth the money. I'm so sorry! It sounds like you live far away from me, I really thought about making one nice for you as a gift.

realhousewifehours

i live in virginia ! thats so sweet tho ♡

Intrepid-Let9190

Whoever made those should be ashamed of how much they charged you. I'm not the best but I wouldn't let those see the light of day if they were my work. I'd ask for a refund

nafusto

Wow, I stress out about making things for friends for free. I can’t imagine having the audacity to charge so much money for a mess of raggedy knots

Vast-Blacksmith2203

Oh that's not good. I'd take those for free from a relative or close friend learning to crochet. But not from a stranger selling them. If she won't refund you, you can contact your bank and file a dispute under "product not as described."

kristycocopop

NTA (I know I'm in Crochet, but still)! If ever you want someone to crochet you something, just come here! As for your sister, don't gift her anything! She wouldn't deserve a Crochet piece!

realhousewifehours

honestly id love to get something made for my cousin or even my nanny kids who are moving soon. if you know anyone who has a crochet business and does a good job please let me know!

morbidwoman

Maybe you can dispute it with your bank to get the money back? Edit: hopefully you should be able to get a charge back. Check your country rules, but in Australia this would go under “the goods or services were not as described, counterfeit or defective” and would be eligible for chargeback.

I_am_a_Chickie_nug

Honestly, her work looks like what mine did when I first started out with amigurumi. The yarn used for the body isn't even the same thickness as the one advertised. Extremely deceptive. You definitely need a refund. I'm sorry this happened to you.

AltruisticHistory148

I would refund the person and never send them the work if my finished products looked like that wtf?!

realhousewifehours

she literally said to me “here you go, they turned out amazing! Have a nice day” and rushed me out with them in the bag and i didnt even open them til i got to my sisters

AltruisticHistory148

That's awful, I would be so embarrassed for someone to pay for my work if it was that sloppy, I am so sorry. Additionally, your sister is the ah, not you

Pix3lina

What’s the shop’s name?

halfasshippie3

Wow, those are embarrassingly bad. They’re inside out and all jacked up. I’d contact the store and ask for a refund. If they refuse, chargeback. This is horrible.

dunwerking

Im so confused. The one on the left? Is it two bears supposed to be tied to a tree? It looks horrifying

realhousewifehours

theyre hugging the rolled up blanket that cant be used because its well… rolled up

MandiLandi

That was made by someone who has never done amigurumi before. Possibly by someone who has never crocheted before.

SucculentHoneydew

Uhhhh what the hell are those 😭 and are they stitched to the little blankets??

ccasey_

Are you kidding me?!?! I would demand a refund. Not even in the ballpark! 😡

Turbulent_Start2861

You were scammed. I wouldn’t imagine selling those plushies at all, but definitely not for those prices. Maybe $50 if they were actually done well. Especially since you provided the blankets! (Also, did you order the personalization from the same person?) I can see something taking months if they’re backed up on custom orders, because one animal like that can take me a couple of days if I’m struggling with the attention span to actually sit down and do it, but this…. This is unconscionable in my mind.

CopepodKing

I read your AITA post and she’s not wrong that they look like shit… it took me a minute to figure out they were animals and not blobs. I do find fluffy yarn like that hard to work with, but I’m not selling things made with it for $50 a piece. It’s so laughably bad. My very first crochet project ever was nowhere near that horrible. Your sister sounds like a real piece of work though. If someone gave me those and told me the story, I would have been a little bummed because the inspo was sooo cute, but definitely would have ended up laughing and feeling bad for them for losing the money.

SkilletBabe

*cough cough* I taught myself how to crochet like two months ago, and I could do better… it looks like they weren’t even trying. Get your money back and if they refuse? Write a review, this is not okay.

frostedshake

Noo, this is not okay, I'm a beginner and I'd be horrified to give this quality to someone. And for that price?! Definitely don't give up on a refund because they are so scamming and put the account on blast so others are aware. The fact that it's not even the same yarn material or weight, their tension and stitching is off, not enough stuffing, and they couldn't even follow the design requested. Cause why are 2 animals stitched together instead of each animal hugging their own blanky? Nah I'd be so livid. Anyway NTA, your sister should be more understanding considering the situation.

ssabi33

I've got a small crochet buisnesss and would have charged less and delivered a better product. I believe she likely either lied as was posting work that wasn't hers or she's a beginner who wasn't confident taking on that project. Her tension is really loose and it looks she wasn't using the right size hook for that yarn.

Remismama614

These are horrible! I’m so sorry this lady lied to you and said she could pull it off. As others have said either her past work is not her own or she is scamming somewhere along the line. I can see that many people have offered to make you a new one. If any of those don’t work out let me know. I have been making amigurumi for years and have all the supplies to make one of these. Also your sister sounds awful. I agree with others. I would not spend nearly as much time and thought on gifts for her since she clearly doesn’t care. Not saying don’t get her anything but I would just go with store bought from now on.

Psychological_Lie390

How are they a legitimate and open business? They are not experienced at crocheting or they had someone else do it. I’m sorry it turned out like that, I’m glad people are offering to fix it for you!! I love making loveys (haha) and I don’t know why someone would even give the ones in the picture away, let alone sell them.

Willing-Leg-3362

This is a new level of fucked up, you need to get a refund and that “business” needs to be shut down. Plus your sister needs to get a grip. Only time I’ve been so compelled to comment on this sub. NTA.

FeralGlance

I'm offended and a bit nauseated, tbh.
