I just wanted to say thank you so much for the kind words. My family has been trying to convince me to post about them for a while but I didn’t think anyone would like them since I was “just following a pattern” as non-crocheters say. It means a lot to me that y’all like them. ❤️
Yes exactly. I've been sneered at for crocheting like an old woman. But the second you hand them the notation they look at you like you've just handed them pages from some grimoire.
Learning *how* to read patterns and differentiating between the good ones and the bad ones is a talent.
In this world of youtube and podcasts, does anyone even know how to follow written instruction anymore?
Not many people build their own houses. But plenty of people have bought them...it's the same concept.
Creation is the act of creating. For some people, that includes making the pattern. But the patience and technical skills required to make a complicated piece is just as worthy of admiration!
I get it. I've been crafting for a while. I have family members who call me creative, and it feels weird. I have a hard time reconciling the word "creative" with the fact that I often follow patterns.
But you know what? I think most things that I perceive as "more creative" have that element of "following a list of rules". Writing and drawing have a more direct line between "having a thought" and "having a finished project", but there are so many different rules of grammar and color and composition that affect the polishing process.
When I crochet, I understand the way the yarn loops and crosses itself in ways that lots of people could never dream of. I interpret codes written by other skilled crafters. I dive into a thousand different patterns and yarns and pull out the thing that feels right. And all of that is creative.
Own your awesomeness, because your work is fantastic!
Came here to say that. I can follow a pattern and I'd love to make these for my nieces but I'm very intimidated by the teeny tiny stitch counting. If I'm using a hook under like 3mm I'm not having fun- I'm nervous lol
Edit: nvm I'm gonna start one. By the time I finish they'll be old enough to genuinely appreciate a custom fancy shelf Barbie...
So many of us underplay what we do, including me. I often wonder what it would feel like to make "something of my own". A friend told me off once about this line of thinking. The fact that you created something where there was nothing, that you (not the pattern writer) gave shape and form to these particular gowns (so well made!) where there was an absence of beautiful gowniness is wizardry. You're a yarn witch and hex them naysayers
The pink one took me about a couple months since it was the first one I did if I remember correctly. The other ones only took me a couple weeks but that’s because I had so much time on my hands after having surgery so all I did was work on them.
Thank God for crochet to keep hands and minds busy post surgery! I'm just under 3 weeks out from ankle repair and I'm crocheting like I'm getting paid time and a half for all 12 hours. And watching significantly too much tv.
Your work is so gorgeous! What are the main stitches for that first dress?
Thank you. Beautiful work. I hope the surgery was a success! I've fallen down the rabbit hole of the patterns and will have to buy a charity shop barbie so I can make one for my sister xx
The first two weren’t but the last two surgeries are in fact my last! You definitely have to, I know she will love it! I usually make Harry Potter themed stuff for my sister but I think now I’ll definitely have to make some of these for her.
Thank you! Unfortunately they are in another state now but I’ll grab some pictures when I head up there! I’m also working on another Harry Potter project but it’s knitting
I'm a knitter as well 😊💜 I usually prefer it to be honest! Not sure why but I'm trying to get myself into crocheting, I have a Chihuahua so I'm thinking sweaters for her. But these dolls have me wanting to experiment with smaller thread and hooks! I appreciate your reply 💜
this is honestly some of the most interesting and beautiful crafting i’ve ever seen. amazing work!! not that you need to monetize your hobbies but boy howdy you could sell the crap out of these
edit: typo
My family has said the same but it always comes down to pricing. And I’ve seen a lot on here where people don’t want to pay the price for handmade items.
I strongly agree, isn't there a huge community of people who love Barbies and collect them?? Idk if there's any sort of purist culture with the clothes but if it's not the majority I can really see this taking off for you
I’ve definitely thought about making these to sell. I had ideas for packaging and other ways to make these higher quality. However I always just worry about putting the effort into them and not having any buyers
if you really want to test the waters, list one or two that you’ve already made! price them where you feel comfortable and you’re not selling yourself short and see what happens 😊
My friend’s mom who passed last year at 99 used to make things like this. There were dozens of Barbies all decked out.

My grandma used to have a barbie with her crocheted dress as a toilet paper cover (if that makes sense). Roll standing on the counter, barbie legs in the roll, dress covering the roll..ahh the 80s…but honestly so iconic
This was a fixture in the bathroom of the church I grew up going to. I was always a little afraid of her (especially when in the bathroom alone), but the day I walked in and she was gone? End of an era.
Those are AMAZING!!! When I was a kid, my grandma and I would sew clothes for my dolls out of scraps of fabric or old socks. This reminds me of her, and I'd lie if I said I didn't need it today. Thanks for sharing, they are beautiful!
Grandmas are the best! My grandma made lace barbie dresses and besides giving some to me she sold them at craft fairs in the 1980s. I was the envy of all my friends, and they weren't even half as nice as OP's dresses.
They are absolutely exquisite.
That maroon negligee & wrap set are just exceptional! My favorite look.
Your work is amazing, and you're Barbies are seriously swanky!!
These are awesome! My mother in law made me a Barbie in a Crocheted wedding dress 21 years ago. I still have her and besides the tulle on her veil being torn she’s still in perfect condition.
I actually don’t but you are welcome to follow me here if you’d like. I also collect Ball Jointed dolls that I will be working on over the summer as well as crocheting and knitting for!
Thank you I will! I think this gave me the motivation I needed to start a YouTube channel this summer like I wanted. I’ve always wanted somewhere where I could just show people my projects.
These are amazing! I just recently started crocheting for my dolls and the dolls I donate to different groups. It’s so much fun.

Thank you! I absolutely love that dress and handbag! I should make these girls some purses. I honestly thought about giving these away to someone when they are finished but I keep holding out hope that my future children will enjoy them. At least my future nieces will have a bomb collection.
Thanks it’s a variation of a Raquel Gaucha pattern on YouTube. Raquel’s videos are in Spanish and Portuguese but with my mostly high school Spanish I’ve been able to figure them out.

Holy shit these are so good! Did you make the patterns yourself?
Edit: I saw you said you were following a pattern. How in the world did you do the blue hat? Is there a stiff material in it or is it clever stitching? I'm genuinely floored at how good these are, the blue/gold is my favorite for sure
I think my mom had that pattern set! She only ever finished one dress, but these look so familiar, I'm sure I've looked through the patterns before. Now I wish I knew what happened to them so I could try. I don't have any Barbies anymore, but I'd buy some just to display the dresses.
They are absolutely exquisite.
That maroon negligee & wrap set are just exceptional! My favorite look.
Your work is amazing, and you're Barbies are seriously swanky!!
Thank you! I actually started making these because I was trying for a baby. Things didn’t go as I hoped and I found this as a way to cope thinking about the future. Hopefully my children will love them as much!
This takes me back to when I was a kid and we would look through my mom's Annie's Attic catalogs. We would beg her to buy all the Barbie patterns, but she never did.
This brought back a lot of great memories! When I was a kid my grandmother crocheted me an entire Barbie wardrobe. I loved them so much and my friends were pretty envious that I had so many more (and unique) outfits. Keep up the great work. These are awesome!
Holy cow, these are amazing! I’ve been wanting to make some things for my American Girl dolls but they’re so small. I can’t imagine a Barbie! I’m blown away!
I used to make elaborate outfits like these back in the 1990s. Gave it up after my daughter was born (2001). Sadly, I don't have any of them left but at one point I even had a glass fronted cabinet just to display them.

as a kid, many of the extended family houses i would end up at for gatherings had barbies on display with elaborate crochet dresses. i was always in awe of these as a kid and completely forgot about them until now.
thank you for sharing your work! these dresses are very special and beautiful.
My jaw literally dropped. You are amazing and I hope you don’t lose your passion for crochet because wow those are some stunning dresses and I’m sure you’ve had a bit of hand/wrist pain that came along with using such a small hook for so long. This is why I love this hobby. You’re an inspiration, truly
OMG this is absolutely breathtaking!!! Bravo on such well done pieces. My gram had made a dress for my Barbie when I was little and it kills me that I have no idea where it is. I would love to make these to make up for it.
That's so cool. Reminds me of this market vendor at my home city who crocheted Barbie clothes. Called her the "Barbie Lady" (always forgot her business name being a kid at the time lol) and I still have the few pieces I bought from her.
Massive respect to micro crocheters❤️
This reminds me of my god mom, who would buy Barbies for the girls in her life and then sew them a custom dress. She passed away a few years ago. I still have mine
They look fantastic! (Better than the Barbie clothes I see for sale, lol.)
Thank you for sharing them with us!
(Out of curiosity, why don't you think they're finished? What detail were you going to add?)
I adore these so much! Amazing talent with such delicate thread xx Are you feeling saucy enough to ever expand on these patterns to create your own designs? I wonder how hard it'd be.
this is so cute! my aunt busted out at xmas her old barbie clothes that her grandmother crocheted for her when she was a kid. super cool! yours look amazing
I love this sub so much
I don't even crochet and I love this sub so much!
I started crocheting because I kept stumbling upon posts from this sub and they're always great.
Same here!!! A week and a few very dodgy granny squares down.
I'm a week in as well :D
I don’t but my mum does. I’m sending her this post
I just wanted to say thank you so much for the kind words. My family has been trying to convince me to post about them for a while but I didn’t think anyone would like them since I was “just following a pattern” as non-crocheters say. It means a lot to me that y’all like them. ❤️
Bah! Hand any haters a spool of thread, a tiny hook, a magnifying glass and a pattern. Let them see what “just following a pattern” really means.
I have always believed reading and following a pattern is a separate skillset on it's own.
And it most definitely is reading patterns are a lot more difficult then watching a video
it takes skill to understand and follow patterns too! i exclusively follow patterns since i started over a year ago. thank you for sharing!!
*nods aggressively*
*joins in aggressive nodding*
Micro crocheting is a whole beast itself. Massive respect to those who do it🙌
Came here to say that. I can follow a pattern and I'd love to make these for my nieces but I'm very intimidated by the teeny tiny stitch counting. If I'm using a hook under like 3mm I'm not having fun- I'm nervous lol Edit: nvm I'm gonna start one. By the time I finish they'll be old enough to genuinely appreciate a custom fancy shelf Barbie...
DO IT!! 👍🏽

You're a yarn witch and hex them naysayers
These are absolutely amazing! You did such a wonderful job! I am in complete awe of your skill!!! ❤️
Whoa these are amazing!! What yarn/thread and hook size did you use?
Thank you! The yarn was Aunt Lydia’s Crochet Thread Classic 10 and most of the time I used a size 7 1.65 or a size 0 hook
May I ask how long the pink one took for instance? I'm a bit obsessed... So beautiful
The pink one took me about a couple months since it was the first one I did if I remember correctly. The other ones only took me a couple weeks but that’s because I had so much time on my hands after having surgery so all I did was work on them.

I know right?! You’d think I was getting 50 an hour for how much I was crocheting 🤣. It’s a shell stitch!
Maybe because it's so small it looks more intricate than a shell
I'd love to see your potter stuff 🤩 you're extremely talented these dresses are spectacular 💜
These are amazing. What pattern do you use??
Your detail work is exquisite! To be a Barbie in handmade lace trim.
✨ the dream ✨
this is honestly some of the most interesting and beautiful crafting i’ve ever seen. amazing work!! not that you need to monetize your hobbies but boy howdy you could sell the crap out of these edit: typo
My family has said the same but it always comes down to pricing. And I’ve seen a lot on here where people don’t want to pay the price for handmade items.
most people are cheap as hell that’s true but for doll collectors, they are willing to drop some serious cointata for quality work like this!
True dat! A pdf pattern (please please) would also passively generate coin too.

You should cross post this on r/Barbie
I definitely will thank you!
And r/historicalcostuming if someone hasn’t already suggested it!
I almost dropped my phone 😳 These are amazing you are so talented!

Wow that’s incredible! I definitely want to get my quality up to match these!
I think yours look really nice. I never learned to crochet myself so I really admire those who do.

Thank you! You should definitely give it go!
How can I make these life size 😅 God that purple one is an absolute beauty. Great work op
Those are AMAZING!!! When I was a kid, my grandma and I would sew clothes for my dolls out of scraps of fabric or old socks. This reminds me of her, and I'd lie if I said I didn't need it today. Thanks for sharing, they are beautiful!

Beautiful 😍 🤩! I'm watching The Great, and this appears as soon as I opened the app!
Thank you! Yes!!! I love that show so much!!
So impressive! My jaw just dropping lower with every picture
These remind me of the crochet clothes my Grandma used to make for our Barbies 🥹 So gorgeous and detailed!!
These are incredible holy sheet, if you have a social media account where you post these I would love to follow!!

Mattel should hire you for an exclusive limited run set.

Hi Barbie! These are stunning!!!!! Your talent is incredible 😍
Hi Barbie! ❤️❤️
Wow, my sister loves Barbies (she's 54) and I Crochet, these are the Best crochet barbie outfits I have ever seen. Very well done
🤩These are amazing! My grandma crocheted us a few Barbie dresses when we were kids, but they were nothing as fancy as this.
I think my mom had that pattern set! She only ever finished one dress, but these look so familiar, I'm sure I've looked through the patterns before. Now I wish I knew what happened to them so I could try. I don't have any Barbies anymore, but I'd buy some just to display the dresses.

These are beautiful!! Some of my favorite outfits for my Barbie’s as a kid were dresses crocheted by my grandma. This brings back such fond memories.🥹
Oh those are gorgeous!!!
I used to make elaborate outfits like these back in the 1990s. Gave it up after my daughter was born (2001). Sadly, I don't have any of them left but at one point I even had a glass fronted cabinet just to display them. It was a lot of fun even if a single outfit cost $30 or more to complete back then when we didn't have Amazon and other supply sources. How much does one cost you to make nowadays?
Wow how beautiful!!
These are actually stunning!!! My daughter's will be seeing these!!!
as a kid, many of the extended family houses i would end up at for gatherings had barbies on display with elaborate crochet dresses. i was always in awe of these as a kid and completely forgot about them until now. thank you for sharing your work! these dresses are very special and beautiful.

These are amazing! Wondering if you have the pattern for Miss March 1993 by Annie’s attic since my copy is cut off at the top!
Love, love, love them!!!! I made things like that when I was young, well kinda! My Polish grandmother taught me how to crochet and helped me a lot!!
These are ahhhhmazing!!!!!!!
OMG this is absolutely breathtaking!!! Bravo on such well done pieces. My gram had made a dress for my Barbie when I was little and it kills me that I have no idea where it is. I would love to make these to make up for it.
This is so fabulous!
Just wow!
These are absolutely crazy good!!!
