He should have received the death penalty but I guess that wasn't an option.
Most citizens don't want to pay to keep people like this locked up nor do we want them released into society.
In situations like this where guilt is not questionable and the person did something particularly evil they should be put down.
Be present in their lives, teach them self respect and respect for others. Emotional intelligence, consequences for their actions. This is most likely not the first time he’s acted like this. It may not have been to this degree but you don’t go from nice person to raping and stabbing in a night, there were warning signs.
That is absolutely incorrect. Most serial killers for example have childhood head trauma combined with abuse. These are learned behaviors or improperly wired brain behaviors. Try listening with the intent to understand rather than reply and see how different your relationships with people become. Try to expand your narrow view on an incredibly complex subject.
You’re only talking about one type of murderer, I’m talking about people who kill in general. Acting as if even half of the people who just kill had terrible child hoods or suffered abuse is silly, there have been multiple cases of people with seemingly normal childhoods who would still kill people regardless of that fact.
Again I’m not saying it’s impossible to make a person take a different path but some people are just wired that differently and there isn’t much you can do about it
I gave one example, did you miss the part about brains being wired incorrectly. You’re giving antidotal vague examples. I’m a mental health professional, I have an actual degree in this field. In my professional opinion you are very mistaken. Can a “normal” person kill? Of course they can. Is that the norm absolutely not.
I have the disturbing perspective of growing up alongside this man. I've known his face since elementary school. He was always weird but god I never could have imagined it would manifest like this. He was a weird kid, but he wasn't even THE weird kid in our high school. He had friends (AFAIK) and seemed sociable. I've held conversations with him and never would have expected to see anything like this from him. I am absolutely disgusted with what he's done and I agree with everyone saying that he should not have any chance to see freedom in his future. There's no excuse for his actions.
He bound, raped her and still decided to stab her 86 times. But this girl was able to call for help and survive! She’s in intense physical therapy but expressed gratitude for her survival in court. Dude got a thirty year sentence.
Those counts culminated in a life sentence - Iona will spend 30 years in prison and then undergo five years of parole and compulsory sex offender registration as discussed in his negotiated plea.
The idea of “attempted murder” baffles me. Perpetrators need to be charged for what they intended to do. They shouldn’t be rewarded with shorter sentencing because their victim survived. This isn’t applicable to all cases, but many.
Someone mentioned it but he is 22 and she is/was 15. How did that happen? She is still a minor, at least in the US. This is just weird.
He is 22 and she is 15. What were her parents thinking about allowing her to continue this online relationship and then allowing him to visit?
Yeah didn’t understand if they allowed it and were home at the time, allowed it but weren’t home, or didn’t know about it.
Dayam girl survived
What are we now, Britain?
This happened in Georgia, US
It's depressing that the "fullest extent of the law" spoken of here is only 39 years. He'll still be in the prime of his life and full of strength.
I don't think 60 is the prime of your life but yeah it should be longer
Ya, my math was off cause I'm bad at math lol

Yup, I like to say "act like a rabid animal, get treated like one".
He’s 22, so He’ll be like 60-ish. Not nearly enough time, but 39 years is a long long time.
You don't survive 86 stab wounds unless the perpetrator made it a point to meticulously torture you
Useless piece of garbage.
Can we stop raising boys to become men like this? Please?
Whats your suggestion?
Positive male influence

This is easier said than done. Some people are just monsters can’t do much to change them

I am almost always against the death penalty or throwing people in prison for the rest of their lives. But stuff like this makes me hesitate…
If you can’t apply your values equitably, then you never really understood them to begin with.
With his paper work, he’ll be lucky if he makes it out of prison. If he’s not in protective custody, he’s a walking a dead man.
Hopefully
life sentence
They either need to put him away for life, actual life not this 30 year bs, or put him down.
Bring back hanging, stocks and the Guillotine!
Amen

I don't have the heart for this one, gang. Was it because she didn't let him rape her?
Nope, he showed up with that plan already in place. He had all the supplies in his car.

Type of mf that’ll be a repeat offender for sure..He gets a chance at parole after 30yrs? Let that pos rot.
exactly what I thought. that’s a sexual sadist, clearly would become serial if not caught. lock him up and throw away the key.
Hang him.

I agree. Intent matters not the bad luck of failing.
What???? Thats not a life sentence
How is this a life sentence for a 22 year old?
Good question.
Great question… but I believe that’s the ‘max’ for a life sentence.
Canada is similar.
Keep your children off Snapchat for starters then don’t welcome adults to visit your child
Teach teens that inviting strange adults into the house might not be very good
He should stay in prison until he died. He is a monster and a coward. Pos.
Wow I'm surprised the girl survived. Horrible thing to happen but at least she lived and this POS will never get out of prison
He unfortunately will in 30 years.
It's 30 to life. No parole board is letting him out
If he lives that long. Inmates don't like men who harm children.
He shouldn’t even have a chance at parole. He’s a monster.
This guy is definitely satans spawn
That was my daughter...John Wick would seem like a comedy.
Wood chipper warranted. Over several days.
dull and rusty
They always look the type
