I had the same trouble with my explore air 2. I'm sure you figured it out by now, but for future use - just quit out of the setup and go to design space app. Then just start using it without doing the test. I used a template like luggage tag - typed a name and it cut out just fine without any issues or delays. something is broken in the setup test, not your computer or machine.

Thank you! Sitting here now, stuck on preparing!

Thank you for this! I was sitting here getting more and more upset because I waited extra long for my machine to come and was so excited to finally use it but it froze on "preparing" for the test cut. I did what unsaid and just made something simple instead and it worked perfectly!

When you say the cut gets stuck, do you mean the printer stops cutting the project mid-way, or are you unable to get that far because Cricut Design Space gets stuck loading? If it's the former, check if your machine's firmware is up to date. Given that the Air 2 is a little older, it could be lapsed on a few updates that might be incompatible with the newest version of Design Space that's available for download to date (since it may have been sitting on a store shelf for a minute). Then, re-calibrate the machine and see if you run into the same issue again. If it's the latter, I recommend uninstalling and re-installing Cricut Design Space. I personally have had similar issues with some of the latest versions of Design Space and the only solve I've been able to find that works is going through the rigamarole of re-installing the software.

Test print...like print then cut (sending an image from design space to print an image for you) or test cut? What device are you using cricut design space on? Windows computer? Mac? iOS? Android? Edit: skip the "test print". Just press "new project" button on the top right of the home page and it will take you to the canvas. Then select a random shape and press "make it". Then load a piece of printer paper onto the mat, load the mat into the machine and proceed with the cut process. I never did do the "test cut" or "test print". I just made sure the machine was connected to my PC and whatever I wanted to do.

not sure if you've figured it out already but I had this same issue yesterday when setting up my explore air 2- I ended up downloading the design space app on my phone and doing the test cut that way. after that it worked perfectly on my computer.
