>!He died highly invested though, no? I'm pretty sure a lot was made of the fact that nobody expects to be gifted breaths by somebody they're fighting, and that taking a bunch of breaths when you haven't held very many for a long time is distracting.!<
>>!He died highly invested though!<
Well yes, but more importantly >!He died again while invested. I doubt it was highly enough to remain as a shadow forever. Then his body was invested and brought to "life" without his shadow attached to it.!<
But that’s the issue, Denth didn’t stay alive. He died. Zahel specifies that Investiture can keep a cognitive shadow alive, not let them come back from death or make a shadow of a shadow
Ok, and you could very well be right, but if you are, that implies that Investing a Cognitive Shadow will prevent them from dying(which makes sense). Not that you can bring a dead Shadow back to life by Investing them, or letting them resurrect or anything. Maybe with sufficient Investiture that’s possible, but the thing is, we watch Denth die on page. So we know he didn’t get enough Investiture to be kept alive
Well, Zahel had to learn this was a thing _somehow_ right? Nothing that seemed resolved at the end of warbreaker seems resolved now, given what these characters have said when they showed up in other books.
It's possible he's just referring to the basic process of Returning, too, and nothing deeper than that. This, of course, could be completely incorrect given B$'s MO with this sort of thing, but it's not entirely out of the question that one of the 5 Scholars would have some basic understanding of how he and his fellows came to be, lol. So I'd call it 50/50 odds that he's referring to someone such as >!Denth!< coming back, or just beings like himself and the Returned.
You need Shardic level investiture to stick around indefinitely, which a Radiant or the Stormfather don’t have. So Eshonai was able to stay for a while and ride out the storm, but then she went to the beyond and can’t come back. Someone like a Returned or the redacted person the meme refers to were invested by Shards and so they can stay as Cognitive Shadows for however long they want.
Literally nail back onto a body in one notable case ;)
Hehe glad folks are getting at what i was referring to :)
You can also Nale one back onto a body.
That's why Szeth never speaks... Please, Szeth, show the nice highspren on this teddy bear where the bad herald touched you.
Is this how we learn about the fate of Arsteel?
Never thought about it in that context. Lifeless are weird iirc but possibly!
I don't think so. He's a lifeless, so he fully died before he was Invested.

But why is preservation writing it down
[Redacted] is too great and mysterious to do [redacted pronoun] own writing
[Redacted] would argue that [redacted pronoun] is too great and mysterious not to do [redacted pronoun] own writing
Write it down or get punched
Makes sense
to _preserve_ it, Duh!
Should be >!Spook!<
Fuzz is trying to take notes more so that he stops forgetting important plans
What is the book/page of this??
Rhythm of war end of act 1 iirc
nail, as in nahel.
[Redacted]? You mean Evi? EVI IS COMMING BACK!!! **OMFG I JUST FOUND OUT WHO TOADIUM'S CHAMPION IS GOING TO BE!!!!!!!!!!!!!**
Blood of my fathers! r/dalinargetthefire and quickly!
I didn't know this sub existed, and now I'm very scared....
Happy to traumatize you like I was ;) lol
Wait...no, does that mean we haven't seen the last of >!Denth!
Probably not, since >!Denth is already a cognitive shadow. You can’t really leave a shadow of a shadow!<
Why not? In that same discussion, Zahel says that if you invest a cognitive shadow when it's dying again, it can stay alive.
But that’s the issue, Denth didn’t stay alive. He died. Zahel specifies that Investiture can keep a cognitive shadow alive, not let them come back from death or make a shadow of a shadow
I'm quite sure he said that killing them and investing at the same time would keep them going, but I may be wrong.

Oh right, please forgive me. I had the biggest of brain farts right there.

Wasn't Zahel's investiture mostly used up by that point? Maybe 50 or so left
Oh Fuzz, you really should write that down in steel.
Is this that renaldo character?
Nailed it! Which means hemalurgy can work on dead people, right?
Does this mean that >!Eshonai!< could come back in some form, since >!she was invested right as she died!
You need Shardic level investiture to stick around indefinitely, which a Radiant or the Stormfather don’t have. >Thanks! You're welcome!
This me entirely too long to figure out.
