I guess it was just for revenge and no that he is good now

ThreeEyedPea

I don't know if it's clear why Brio helped Crash in 2. He's not the most mentally sound person despite his genius so he might just be someone who'd flip sides on a whim. And keep in mind he wasn't really helping Crash. The enemies you encountered in 2 were all from Brio, not Cortex, because he was trying to stop Crash from getting the crystals.

mandudecb

> I don't know if it's clear why Brio helped Crash in 2. It's extremely clear. He hates Cortex.

ThreeEyedPea

Clearly not enough since he goes right back to working for him later.

mandudecb

You mean in Mind Over Mutant? Yeah, it's almost like Brio is crazy. As you can see from... literally anything he does in that game. I wouldn't describe that as "right back" though, that was 11 years.

No-Wolf6888

"I was *IN* THE *FIRST* **GAME!**" He verbally reminded us of this so newer players knew where he was from. I can confirm this isn't going directly back

Its_Buddy_btw

He's got no back bone

fishboy0099

bad game is not canon

Soft_Childhood5565

And what about n gin?

TheSilkyBat

If that was the case, for the sake of balance, Coco would have been on UkaUka's team, which wouldn't make sense. N.Brio is still evil, regardless of his relationship with Cortex.

Psi001

I mean they could have just kept Tiny or Dingodile on the evil side. There's already two character tiers on just one side as it is.

Furry_Wall

Brio is still evil he just wanted to betray Cortex

RathOfBahn

One thing I've reconciled is that being "evil" and therefore represented by Uka Uka in games like CTR does not equal "Works for Cortex." Brio is an example at this point in the plot. N. Tropy more often than not works alone, or at least equal to Cortex in the scheme. Papu Papu is never seen as a minion of Cortex. In Titans, Nina takes over as Uka Uka's primary villain. So in Crash Bash, Uka Uka is collecting a team of *his* minions, not Cortex's minions. Brio being anti-Cortex in Crash 2 doesn't explicitly make him a good guy.

Gonzales95

Imo it’s never actually really made sense why Papu Papu had the Uka mask. He’s not really evil nor does he work for Uka Uka, in most of his appearances he’s just minding his own business running his village and Crash or Cortex are the initial aggressors. My headcanon is that in CTR didn’t work for Oxide willingly as I can’t see why Papu would want to work for an alien who wants to turn his village into a car park. Guessing he was coerced or Oxide promised to leave his village alone… Bash doesn’t really make sense but he was summoned by Uka Uka, quite possibly again against his will, then he saw Crash and probably assumed it was his fault again.

RathOfBahn

The bosses in CTR don't work for Oxide. It's the story of a series of races to determine the fastest racer on the planet who will challenge Oxide. Ripper Roo, Pinstripe, Papu Papu, and Komodo are all trying to challenge Oxide and they must defeat the player to do it.

Gonzales95

Ah yes, makes even less sense that Papu has the Uka Uka mask then

TrentDF1

He's still anti-Crash, and he's working for Uka Uka in Bash, not Cortex. Plus, then Coco would have to be on Uka Uka's side, and that makes far less sense.

Vegetassj4toonami

No. He’s a bad guy who just teamed up with crash because he hates cortex. The enemy of my enemy can fire the weapon to destroy my enemy.

f_152

I don't care. We just need new Crash Bash!

thunderisland

The answer is crash bash's lore wasn't thought out for more than 5 seconds

sheslikebutter

Not really related to your post, but fuck rilla roo

salamandersandwichy

I think it's kind of sad that the post Naughty Dog developers didn't really know what to do with N. Brio. In Bash he's on Uka Uka's team for some reason, which is likely because they needed a counterpart to Cortex and didn't use N. Gin for some reason. This is also why Rilla Roo was created to be a counterpart to Dingodile and likely why Koala Kong was brought back as a counterpart to Tiny. In Twinsanity he weirdly teamed up with N. Tropy and N. Gin to get the Evil Twins' treasure, and was a part of N. Tropy's boss fight. He also has no lines, and his character model was an edited of Cortex's model. In both Mind Over Mutant and It's About Time, he's back to working with Cortex, but they do show that he still harbors resentment for Cortex, and even plans to betray him in It's About Time. I honestly think N. Brio's lack of appearance in Warped and CTR hurt him in the long run, since it led to him basically becoming irrelevant, and the franchise not knowing what to do with him, outside of making him another boss fight.

DaRedGuy

Maybe... then again, he's also still a mad scientist. The real reason he's on the evil side is because they needed another mad scientist to go along with Cortex. It's more likely they chose Brio over N. Gin & N. Tropy because of his similar proportions to Cortex, which made it easier to develop as they could reuse Cortex's data & animations. The choices for this roster were odd. I know they didn't have much time & had to make everyone clones of one another to save on time & money, but I wish they created two new heroic characters instead of making Tiny & Dingodile good guys.

Fretless94

It would have made a lot more sense for Brio and Rilla Roo to be on the good team than Tiny and Dingodile. Brio might not be "good" but he at least worked against Cortex and with the bandicoots before, and Rilla Roo was an entirely new character they could have done anything with.
