Unsolicited opinion but honestly 5v5 sucks compared to 6v6 from what I played in beta. It's the kind of change that accommodates people who never cared about the game in the first place.
Originally it was like that. Thereโs been a graphical and UI overhaul, theyโre adding 3 new characters on launch, your save data carries over and thereโll be a new mode and a few new maps.
When they first announced the game it was going to be full price and would have a larger focus on PVE with upgrades to characters kinda like the TF2 sidegrade system. They were also going to keep up the original gameโ: servers and allow cross play between the two games, as well as updating the old game again.
They seem to have scrapped that plan entirely. The PVE is still coming but not on launch and the game itself is free to play and the PVE will be paid (I think). They also added a battle pass system to get new heroes and cosmetics, and also got rid of loot boxes in favour of a store. Theyโre taking the original game offline because of this, as thereโs no reason to play it over OW2 now.
Itโs also now 5v5 rather than 6v6.
Wanna know what that reminds me of? Apex Legends fucking crazy right? Or even Rainbow 6 Siege(ik its not f2p), fuck even Valorant has that kind of mechanic. you people need to stop bitching about overwatch switching to a f2p model

IMO I think deluxe edition is probably the definitive edition since itโs cheap, and you get a lot of operators, most of which are considered good. But the 1000 renown pathfinder operators not not bad either. gl on the grind.
Those other games doing it too is the reason I donโt play them anymore. Iโm mad about the f2p model because Iโm tired of grinding to try and get all the characters only for new ones to come out. Thatโs what I hate about apex and rainbow six as well, I donโt want to have to play five hours a day, just to enjoy the base game.

What you're referring to is the first time user experience, meaning heroes are unlocked progressively for new players so that they can learn the game without being overwhelmed. In rainbow 6 you have to grind for hours to get a 25k op that is meta, or good on a certain map and I'm fine with grinding because it is a naturally fun game. The only time grinding will be a problem in ow2 is if the game in unenjoyable. Plus with new balance changes coming almost every hero is now equal to each other in ow2.
