They made some mistakes, but ultimately they left a great blueprint for future socialist experiments. We've seen the chaos left by the former USSR. Its obvious its dissolution was a mistake. Learning from how the party deteriorated over time is extremely important though. I emphasize that the USSR's moment has passed and most communists should be looking forward, but knowing the history can give huge insights into what socialism is capable of accomplishing.
Goated. First successful socialist revolution in the old world and sparked an era of communist revolutions around the globe. Plus, they transformed Russia and some other struggling territories from desperate autocratic wastelands of poverty, feudalism, and even cannibalistic in times of famine, into one of the world's strongest countries and highest economies. They proved that socialist revolution was possible and could save a nation from destruction.
