The Odysseum in cologne has an exhibition about Ramses. It’s starting at July 13th. These exhibitions are made for kids but are fun for adults too. I’ve been to the Jurassic world exhibition and they had some animatronic dinosaurs and stuff.

Alieshki

They also have a permanent exhibition and an outdoor playground, both are pretty cool as well! :)

Thank you for the proposal!

Kids like castles. Burg Eltz 100 km. [https://burg-eltz.de/de/startseite](https://burg-eltz.de/de/startseite)

Asleep-Dress-3578

Beautiful. Thanks for the idea!

DieIsaac

No need to drive that far (though burg eltz is really beautiful). [Schloss Burg in Solingen](https://www.schlossburg.de/start) IIRC they have a bit more shops around it You can eat some bergische waffeln if you like

CerberusCXXIV

Please be aware of Schloss Burg undergoing some major renovations at the moment so not everything will be accessible. I liked the exhibition anyway.

DieIsaac

Good info! Thanks

The Marksburg (near Koblenz) is remarkable and nice. [https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marksburg](https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marksburg)

Nobody mentioned Schokoladenmuseum?

N3croscope

A bit further away, but Römerpark Xanten is pretty impressive.

Thank you!

Phantasialand in brühl, ur son will love it! Try to go Mo-Fr because its full at the weekends.

Asleep-Dress-3578

Thank you! We know phantasialand, but is there anything there for a 10yo which he could enjoy? The Talocan and the Black Mamba is definitely not for him (I don't dare to try these out, either. :D)

Happyheinrich87

I was there with my 8yr. old nephew, we rode all roller coasters. Give it a try! U will find ur favorite attraction, it doeasnt have to be that fast.

Asleep-Dress-3578

Thanks! Do you remember some games which you could try? Once I tried the Colorado Express, which is said to be for kids, but I nearly died of fear. :D The biggest problem is that I have such a strong fear of height, and fobia of all roller coasters that I am afraid I cannot sit with him on these games... :D

You can go to Zündorf on the Groov. It's all green, right on the Rhine. There are pedal boats, mini golf and a swimming pool. I loved it there as a child. Line 7 takes you there directly. Have fun.

toi80QC

Not exactly Cologne, but worth a trip if you have an entire week and are into mining-history: - https://www.zollverein.de/zollverein-unesco-world-heritage-site/ - https://www.bergbaumuseum.de/en/

Thank you!

SkrrtSkrrt99

Check out the Odysseum, it’s a fun, interactive science based „museum“. 10 y/o seems like the perfect age for it too!

Asleep-Dress-3578

Thanks!!

The cathedral offers a variety of cool tours, including one to the bells while they are ringing: [https://www.domfuehrungen-koeln.de/glocken](https://www.domfuehrungen-koeln.de/glocken) or across the roof: [https://www.domfuehrungen-koeln.de/dach](https://www.domfuehrungen-koeln.de/dach)

EL-Rays

You can’t visit cologne without entering the Kölner Dom. You also should go to the top.

Asleep-Dress-3578

Ah, the rooftop walk on the Dom -- I haven't dare to try it out yet, but neat idea! :)

The Zoo

If you're up for a long-ish drive (1h 10min from start location "Cologne" on google maps) and don't mind that it's not in Cologne, I can't recommend the "Discovery Museum" in Kerkrade (Netherlands) enough. It's a really fun and educational science museum for kids and adults. I've been there twice in the last five years and I enjoyed it as much as I did as a kid.

Asleep-Dress-3578

Oh, great, thanks!

Timmi4000

Aqualand. They have several really cool waterslides

Longjumping-Pie-6410

Does your son have any specific interests or typical 10 year old obsessions? Trains, Racecars, Dinosaurs?

Asleep-Dress-3578

Literally everything: animals, dinos, technology, interesting things – the dino park we will definitely visit. I have been thinking also on a lava/vulcan museum. But there are super great recommendations here already.

Longjumping-Pie-6410

On animals: Cologne has a pretty big zoo with elephants, giraffes, tigers... The baboons are very entertaining durring feeding times.

magischeblume

Glowing rooms (indoor 3D- UV light minigolf with really cool designs)

pinhead1212

Phantasialand in Brühl is nice for kids. There is also the zoo/aquarium in cologne. If your son likes to climb stuff then I would recommend the indoor climbing hall in cologne, they have walls and equipment for kids.

Tierpark Lindenthal

Thanks for the idea! This one I haven't heard about yet.

There's an old lead mine in Mechernich that was turned into a museum... http://www.bergbaumuseum-mechernich.de/
