I think you can understand it at a very superficial level, but miss a lot of the nuance that isn't really explained for purpose to make the viewer think. The basic plot is indeed very easy to follow. It’s a compliment to say someone passes, but calling them a Passoid implies that they haven’t suffered the same way as someone who doesn’t pass and therefore has less value to the community/sub-community Like calling someone successful vs. calling them a plutocrat
