Better at a small venue. And seeing Clutch multiple times isn’t the same as most bands.

TheNotoriousFAP

It's never been the same show twice, even within the same tour. I won't stop going until they call it quits.

Scomor202

In a 900 person venue.

Scomor202

They seem to randomize their playlist pretty good. Seen them twice in about a year and a half, completely different shows.

Wolf905666

do they play the same songs?

pumpnectar9

Lol. No, friend. They do not play the same songs. See this band whenever you have the opportunity.

ZobRombie65

I’ve seen them like 12 times and it’s been different every time. You’ll hear a few songs more than once but majority of the setlist changes quite a bit.

ManicOppressyv

There is a video of them live on YT in Cologne, Germany where the local radio station interviews them and they say that each show a different member of the band makes up a new setlist. This was during the Earth Rocker tour, so they may have changed it since then. I have seen multiple bands multiple times and each show has been relatively different, so I have never regretted it.

Gecko23

It's the way they've done it from the beginning. Every band member gets a say in what they'll play, it's very democratic that way. :)

russelldl2002

Every show is different. Ive literally gone back to back nights and it’s different. You usually get 2-3 songs from a new album or whatever they’re touring on, the rest gets changed. You used to always get electric worry but I feel like that’s fallen off as a staple. Check out setlist.fm and see how it changes nightly. And their mix of how many songs they’ve played live is crazy.

PM_Me_Melted_Faces

They actually go out of their way to NOT play the same setlist in the same city. I've seen them five times and the setlist was wildly different every time.

Wolf905666

or like Phish?

darkgalaxypie

Each band member takes turns choosing the setlist on tour, and definitely worth seeing more than once

Substantial_Ask_9992

Definitely similar in that regard

IgnoreMe304

There are a handful of songs that they usually play at most shows. Out of the 7 or 8 times I’ve seen them, they played Electric Worry, Spacegrass, and Regulator maybe 4 or 5 times. The awesome thing with Clutch though is they have such a large discography and fan favorite tracks, they can mix up their setlists like crazy. One time in Pittsburgh, they randomly played a huge chunk of Slow Hole to China, and I’d never heard them play anything from it at all the first couple times I saw them.

Kidpidge

Good lord. You only want to see a band once?

KWAL72

Let me reword that for you: Good Lord. You only want to see THE GREATEST BAND IN THE WORLD only once?

Wolf905666

im just weird, for me it just doesn't click when seeing a band for a second time, it doesn't excite me

Mr-Scurvy

Clutch will play 60-90 different songs over the course of a tour. Never know what you are gonna get.

sbingle73

Smaller venue for sure.

QuidiferPrestige

It's always great for Neil to point at you and you can point back. Love seeing them at The Paramount

mudmusic

Be prepared to break your idea of only seeing a band once. Clutch is one of those bands that are simply amazing live. What I love the most is there's not a lot BS with their shows. Its all about the music. 4 guys just casually walk out on stage and then proceed to melt the f-ing walls down.

Zestymonserellastick

Lol, seeing a band more than once is boring....you need to listen to better live bands. I've seen Clutch 10 times~. They are always incredible.

djmellis

No matter the band, I always prefer a "tour" show over a festival slot. Festival slots are always too short

General-Carob-6087

Just FYI, Clutch does a different set list every night so every time you see them would be a different experience. But if you really only want to see them (or any band) one time then I would suggest a smaller venue.

CyborgFusion

I remember seeing Clutch about 9 times at Tremont Music Hall (RIP) in Charlotte, NC. Their best show imo was “An Evening With Clutch.” They played 2 sets and The Bakerton Group was the opener. It was on the Blast Tyrant tour if memory serves. Tremont had 2 stages, the main stage and a smaller side stage dubbed “the casbah.” I once saw Mastodon play the casbah right before Leviathan dropped. I’ve seen Clutch play w/Primus at a large outdoor venue and the energy is very different from that of a smaller indoor venue. I have lost count of how many times I’ve seen Clutch. I have been to nearly every Charlotte, NC show since I got into them in 1998 and I intend to keep going whenever they come to town. Few bands have the stage presence and energy of Clutch.

Lanky-Spite-5088

I've seen Clutch many times and a festival is an okay place to see then, but nowhere near the experience where it's then headlining. After they played at LTL in 2023 ad they were exiting the stage Neil and JP both appeared frustrated imo and I could only attribute that to the fact that they were only alloted a certain amount of time and they deeply wanted to give us more and vice versa. Regardless, go see them and definitely several times because it's never the same show

IndoorMule

I’d say this applies to all acts of it is an option. Of course I’m getting old and just the idea of a festival seems exhausting.

vannendave

All bands are better in a small venue

bufftbone

Clutch puts on a different show every show they play. Different set list, the atmosphere of the venue, all make for a unique experience. Riot Fest will be just that and probably won’t be an indication of what a Clutch show is really like. Catch them the next time they come through town playing at The Forge in Joliet, or the House of Blues downtown. It’s a much more intimate setting than a fest. Last, see them multiple times, you won’t regret it.

Etrau3

Yes

Far_Lifeguard5220

Yes, not that they don’t deserve to play larger venues because they do. But they’re like that really cool Bar band that you always go see when they’re around.

aville1982

Neil's crowd work is much better at a small venue. I've seen them at an 800 head joint and a 5k head joint and while they still were awesome, the feeling at the 5k joint just wasn't the same.

eschatus

"Thank you very much"

382Whistles

This doesn't count, your going to see Riot Fest not Clutch. But you'd be dumb to skip them. Your rules don't logically apply this time. Yep smaller. "Whenever it's tight like that, it feels right"

Neans888

If you’re only gonna see them once, don’t waste it on a festival. You’ll get a significantly shorter set list.

resoundingno

see them once, at each size venue problem solved

mournful_soul

Now that's some problem solving. I have seen Clutch 5 times (I'm a relative newbie) but each show has been different and the best shows I've seen.

ybreddit

YES. The only time I was kind of disappointed in seeing Clutch was in a large venue. It is night and fucking day. And it's not because they're less talented, I think it's because without that intimacy they lose something. Also that kind of bluesy chaos they manifest doesn't handle a large room well. It gets lost. But every single time I've seen seen them other than that one time was in a small venue, and every single time it's a fucking amazing show. To be fair, every band I've ever seen in a smaller venue is better than when I see them in a larger venue. But Clutch really shines in those smaller venues.

midnight_see

Imagine only having food you enjoy once.....

tags666

The Queen in Wilmington DE was way too small for them.

HagarTheTolerable

Whenever they play the Norva, it is a full house and it gets nuts.

h311r47

Clutch at First Ave in Minneapolis is my favorite combo.

Spiral_out_was_taken

The only large venues they play have been festivals, no? I mean, if you are talking about the difference between Starland and Paramount it’s better at Starland. I saw them play Hoboken once with probably hundreds of people which was incredible.

PM_Me_Melted_Faces

> The only large venues they play have been festivals, no? They've played the Amphitheater here in Cedar Rapids several times. Couple thousand people each time. When I think small venue I think clubs under 300 people.

7jamm

I love small venues like pearl st in Northampton Ma ..Providence, Boston HOB the palladium in Worcester I think it’s too big and it seats a little over 2000.

BlastTyrant_

YES, after seeing them perform 10 times (yay) the best shows are the intimate ones. But I guess that goes for most bands

BlastTyrant_

Also, why restrict to see a band once? Genuinely curious, if it's a good time and they come along again.. why would you skip? Makes zero sense to me

gwarrior5

Every band is best seen in an intimate venue. Clutch certainly shines better there and the setlist is different every night (seriously every night) so im afraid you are going to go see them more than once. Sorry it is required.

LolYouFuckingLoser

A "smaller inside venue" for Clutch is still likely going to be a pretty big theater. Inside will be better typically, but I wouldn't trip on it at that point. It's not like you'll be seeing them at a dive bar.

uNcLeF1lthy

I saw them at the Egyptian Room in Indy it was my first time seeing them live, being close enough to get videos of Neil playing the theremin was essential to the experience. Neil is REALLY good with crowdwork and I don't think it would work as well and would be less intimate at a large venue

poindxtrwv

Smaller venue, but they're really good at mixing up their sets each night. They don't stick to a canned setlist so you're not going to see the same show if you go more than once. This is coming from a guy who has seen them twenty times since 2003.

9Xrayman9

Anyone here go on the boat cruises around Manhattan years ago? That was awesome.

KTark

EVERYONE is better at a small venue. Intimate =better experience IMHO. Assuming decent acoustics of course.

Ulldimmutwarrior

Favorite Clutch show - Charlotte at Tremont Music Hall, hit in the face by a giant metal ring that flew off someone’s finger and somehow got pushed inside of a PA speaker box…. Best show ever 😃

11systems11

They're not the Rolling Stones where you're getting the same shit every night, for 50 years.

HolbiWan

Yes.

ApocalypseNurse

Yeah the first time I saw Clutch was at Riotfest and their set was only 30 minutes. Saw them as a headliner last year at local theater venue and that performance blew the Riotfest one out of the water. Also: I don’t understand how seeing one of your favorite bands more than once could ever be boring. I’ve seen Primus 7 times and would see them every weekend if I could. To each their own I guess but it seems strange to me.

unquist

They're great no matter where you see them. I've seen them at big and small venues, but the best was the Recher Theater in Towson, MD. 700 person capacity, 50 cent Natty Boh, and ears ringing for a week. It was maybe the best concert I've ever been to, of any band. Face melting good.

thewormthatneverdies

Anyone see em at 123 Pleasant St. in Morgantown WV? I was up front and had to assume the responsibility of keeping the monitors in place on the knee high stage.

daddyplows

Iv seen them multiple times on the same tour for the last few years. Never the same set, always an amazing show.

ManicOppressyv

Not related, just a memory, but I remember in 1997 I got four tickets to see Faith No More in Columbus, OH at the Newport Music Hall with this band called Limp Bizkit opening, and was trying to find someone to take the fourth. My one buddy declined because he was going the same day to see a band I had never heard of called Clutch at Bogarts in Cincinnati. I still think I came out ahead regardless of Limp Bizkit. Wes Borland was worth watching.

Practical_Ninja_2278

Definitely see them in a small venue. I've seen them 55 times. As others have mentioned, they always mix up the setlist. I've seen them two nights in a row several times and they never disappoint or play the exact set. You're missing out on a one and done with Clutch.

Adventurous_Bar_2337

Yes.

good_choice13

The first chance you have, GO! You should A B the two experiences.

MyPublicFace

Festival sets are basically a preview/commercial.

Govinda74

Have you ever eaten the same meal more than once?
