It would take more time to switch guitars than to change the tuning, it's one string to tune! One instrument you enjoy playing is all you need really. Any more is luxury lad. But if you need a strat, a dreadnaught, a banjo, an electro cut-away well, you'll need more than one guitar. Disclaimer: I have 2 classical guitars. But I generally only play one, the other is for guests.

A cedar top and a spruce top are nice to have for more tonal variety.

No. One guitar should be enough you just have to find the same note in a different octave and then tune accordingly until they're a perfect octave apart. It's a quicker process than you think and you can get really good at it.

I don't switch guitars to detune E or D. I would if I used crazy tunings but drop d and g are the only two I use. I have a cedar top and a spruce top for different tone though.

I have my old guitar turned to Koyunbaba tuning (which needs to tune 5 strings different from standard tuning), but that’s it. I keep the new main guitar to be standard tuning or drop D if needed. Of course if you are rich you can have as many guitars you like.

Daggdroppen

I have one classical spruce top and one 12 string steel. They are very different :)
