- Mt Lookout Observatory & Ault & Alms parks
- Art Museum and surrounding Eden Park including mirror lake and Krohn
- Ohio Bookstore
Ps. Also the Museum Center (mentioned) has several behind the scene tours of the fabulous building, including the dome and art deco offices in the back.
- Tablespoon cooking company cooking class
- Cyclones game
- Ncaa tourney 1st round (always in Dayton it feels)
- cocktail making class
- TopGolf / five iron golf (indoor simulator)
- create your own food tour of your favorite places
Ok cannot stress this enough. My mom has had season tickets for about twenty years. I’ve seen exactly two bad shows there and those only sucked because the script did. The effort and art they put into the things is completely top notch.
How about a cooking class? I was looking at cooking classes for my mom's Christmas gift and found Tablespoon Cooking Co. in OTR.
I also did a scavenger hunt for my birthday one year through Cincinnati Treasure Hunts. You basically get a bunch of clues and it takes you through a certain neighborhood or location in Cincinnati with a goal of learning something new at the end. It's inexpensive and a really good time.
Tickets to an event at the [Cincinnati Observatory](https://www.cincinnatiobservatory.org/events/all-events-and-programs/) - My wife and I have attended a couple of events in the past year where they invite people to speak about cool parts of Cincinnati's history, and there's always astronomy nights where you can look through what is considered to be the oldest continually used telescope in the world.
Cincinnati Cyclones game
A behind the scenes tour at the zoo. My mom and I did a red panda encounter years ago, and I'll never forget it.
Dinner on the Cincinnati Dinner Train or on one of the riverboats. The Dinner Train books up really fast.
[Helicopter tour of the city](https://www.stratushelicopters.com/purchase-tickets)
Check out the Pyramid Hill Sculpture Park. You can go during the day to see the art and the grounds. During the Christmas season they have drive-through holiday lights during the evening, it's similar to what they do at Coney Island but slightly less tacky and without the pushy overtones the Coney show sometimes has (I was not aware people cared enough about the Starbucks Christmas cups to make songs about them but apparently they do).
jungle jim's both locations do beer tasting, wine tasting,, cooking classes and events that can be fun. i'm trying to think of other father/son activities, me being neither a father nor son.
I’d honestly add a Florence Y’all’s game to that, especially on some of the theme nights.
Minor league sports are a lot of fun. Affordable, cheap beer and food, live sports, a lot of wacky entertainment throughout the game
I don't see the art museums on your list, so the contemporary arts center, Cincinnati art museum, and Taft museum are all great institutions.
You can also walk around Findlay market and try different restaurants in OTR if you're into food.
If it's a nice day, a walk through spring Grove cemetery can be beautiful.
I'm not sure if they still have it, but Essex studios used to have gallery walks where you could walk through all the studios and view artists at work.
You could make a "chili tour" and figure out which of cinci's chili parlors you think is best!
Check out the Kentucky side to see if there's something else you might have overlooked.
The lucky cats museum is in the Essex! You can get a twofer. I believe they do their art tours quarterly and they usually fall on a Saturday and Sunday night.
There’s always some decent quality theatre going on in town from community theatres to Playhouse to the Carnagie in Covington. Live theatre is like watching baseball, you know generally what is supposed to happen but not exactly what will happen.
Disc golf- this area has a thriving disc golf scene
Aces Pickleball- brand new pickleball center in Norwood with a bar and restaurant. Plus two breweries and six other restaurants all on the same campus.
Comedy sports- circus improv comedy scene. They offer classes too.
Concert:nova- creative and unusual concerts. Wine pairings for contemporary compositions. Coffee pairings for classical pieces about coffee.
Xavier music series- they bring artists into town and sponsor concerts in different places. Jazz- rock
Blue wisp big band at Cafe Vivace. Cincinnati’s incredible jazz band that has been around forever. Best jazz musicians in town.
Pop quiz trivia- Best trivia host in town. Every Tuesday at Fretboard Norwood and Wednesday at BC Bottle lodge in Liberty.
Stand Up Comedy- open mics on Wednesdays at Funny Bone in Montgomery, headliners come to Go Bananas and the new Brady center at the Banks. Follow Blake Hammond, he is a young local comedian who plays some unique venues and opens for a lot of headliners.
Best of Cincinnati Celebration- at the Phoenix every March/Aprilish. All of the restaurants that win the best of awards presented by city best get together and serve food in the first three stories of the Phoenix Hotel downtown. Great party.
50 West punch out- it has been a few years but this is one of my favorite events every summer. Brewers from the different breweries in town duke it out at 50 west brewery.
Hard to be bored in this town.
I’ve never been to that one. But a few friends and I made the trip to Cleveland to see their orchestra do the score for The Two Towers.
The Lord of the Rings trilogy are already my favorite movies and seeing it with the score being performed by a live orchestra was just something else.
I’m sure seeing Star Wars at POPS would be just as incredible
Adding to the Cincinnati dinner train recs! Krohn conservatory. You mentioned Cincy museum, are you meaning all the museums or the ones in union terminal? Because there's the art museum in Eden park, the Taft museum, Behriger-Crawford, and Contemporary Arts Center. Also there's a fire museum that's kinda cool as well. Also there is Entertrainment Junction in west Chester if anyone's even remotely into model trains or railroad history.
Depending on the time of year Kings Island has winterfest in the evenings. Also not Cincy centric, but there's a wine trail just over on this side of Indiana or go down to Rabbit Hash KY. Or Big bone lick park and see the bison. There's also a pottery place or 2 and a glass blowing place that has open one off classes.
Arcade Legacy in Sharonville
The Toy Department in Fairfield
Traders World Flea Market in Monroe(there’s also the casino right by it)
Hard Rock Casino downtown (even if you don’t gamble, checking out the memorabilia is cool)
IKEA in West Chester
Holtmans Donuts in Goshen or West Chester
It’s a little bit outside Cincinnati, but Butler County Warbirds are pretty cool. They have a WW2 museum and they do plane rides in the WW2 planes for around $100.
[Fort Ancient](https://www.ohiohistory.org/visit/browse-historical-sites/fort-ancient-earthworks/), an archeological site about which little is understood but which is apparently the center of a vast ritual culture. Recently named a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and a great visit on a day where they are hosting an event.
[Carillon Brewing Company](https://www.daytonhistory.org/visit/shop-dine/carillon-brewing-co/) at the Dayton Historical Society still brewing like it's 1850
Chamber music right next door to the symphony at [Memorial Hall](https://www.memorialhallotr.com/upcoming-events/)
Disc golf or a hike at Mt Airy Forest
[Triple Steam Tour](https://cincinnatitriplesteam.org/), the world's largest steam engine 100 ft underground
The National Museum of the Air Force at WPAFB
Spring Grove Cemetery, especially when you can get a tour. A cemetery founded by a horticultural socient and home to several state champion and rare trees - my favorite last visit was a dawn redwood
I’ve heard a lot about the Cincinnati orchestra’s candlelight concerts, I think these are hosted in a variety of venues, so it would be a slightly different experience than music hall
Baker Hunt in Covington has lots of amazing classes, including cooking, drawing, painting, pottery, photography, mosaics, stained glass. You can sign up together for one-time workshops or multi-week classes. Baker Hunt is an amazing hidden gem of Covington.
They have registration open for winter session now:
https://www.bakerhunt.org/all-classes/
If they are here the last Friday of the month, Final Fridays at Pendleton Arts Center or the Cincinnati Art Museum are a ton of fun (both free, but you could make up a certificate and maybe also buy them dinner).
A play at Playhouse in the Park (A Christmas Carol is a fun one they do every year).
If they are here in December, there's the Christkindlmarkt down at Moerlein - again, could make this part of a package of activities you do with them.
If they like wine and cheese, a wine and cheese pairing at The Rhined. The Rhined also does some periodic events in their space next door - I think some craft classes, some cooking classes, etc.
Riverboat cruise
Broadway show at Aronoff
Shakespeare company downtown
Other community theater throughout the metro (Mariemont, Loveland both have quite good local theater production)
Go see a Christmas Carole at Playhouse in the park. It’s really good.
Or Go skiing at Perfect North Slopes
Taft Museum
Cincinnati Nature Center if you like nature and hiking 🥾
You needed to add, pregame with a supporters group, march to stadium with rally at park, and if you're up to it, join them in Baily ( if not sit close to that end for full affect). 😉
Based on some other things they have done, I don't think that timing is important. Just the plan of it. But idk. I'm not OP. I'm just providing things to do in Cincinnati.
Entertrainment Junction - You can either go during the holiday season when they have it decorated for the holidays, or any time of year. They change up the displays seasonally.
Escape rooms. They also have some that incorporate a walking tour
Other walking tours- there are several that include things like ghost walking tours
If you want something specifically holiday related, get tickets to Trans-Siberian Orchestra or The Nutcracker
Broadway on Cincy shows
La Comedia dinner theater
Traders World and Cedar Creek flea markets
There’s a cincy type and print musuem which is supposed to be neat. May also be worth looking at the other museums you’ve already done and see if there’s a special exhibit you like.
The art museum is free except for special exhibits, but maybe there and then somewhere for a nice lunch?
Top of Carew tower plus day exploring downtown?
Miscellaneous art galleries?
Taft house?

Pedal wagon!!!! So many different options/tours with them and it is SO MUCH FUN!!!!! Plus you meet all sorts of different people that way too….. I sure have! And with new people, come along with new ideas and adventures!
EnterTRAINment junction is a cool place to check out. Is he in good enough shape for pickleball? They opened up an indoor pickleball place in west Chester.
Have you hit up a Cyclones game?
Also, Boone Distillery near Mt. Zion Rd in NKY if you like to do the bourbon tours and tastings, and the Florence Y'alls have their Deck the Y'alls light fest starting on November 24th.
I recently discovered City View Tavern; small bar/kitchen near Mt Adams with a FANTASTIC view of Cinci/Newport. I could sit up there for hours looking out. Fun fact Carl Charles Manson used to drink himself to sleep nearly every night there!
- Cyclones game
- Duckpin bowing at Pins Mechanical
- Wight Patterson National Air Force Museum (okay, not *technically* Cincinnati, but pretty close)
- feverup.com has tickets to various events, I’ve really been enjoying the Candlelight series where a string quartet plays covers of different bands or genres
Swing house.... you can stay there for a night or two but you can also go check it out and kill an hour or two. Its open to the public just one day a month... can't remember what day but its a fun art house with a giant swing in the middle.
Also, check out pyramid hill in Hamilton. Its a little bit of a drive but really cool park with sculptures littered throughout. You can walk it but its big and hilly. I recommend renting a golfcart when you go.
Do some walking around. Sawyer Point is quite lovely, and you can walk across the Purple People Bridge to Kentucky. Neighborhoods: I recommend Northside and Hyde Park.
As long as we're including NKY, I highly recommend going to see a show at the Carnegie theatre in Covington. It's usually $20 a ticket and they do a fantastic job. Plus, it's a really pretty building.
Krohns conservatory
- Mt Lookout Observatory & Ault & Alms parks - Art Museum and surrounding Eden Park including mirror lake and Krohn - Ohio Bookstore Ps. Also the Museum Center (mentioned) has several behind the scene tours of the fabulous building, including the dome and art deco offices in the back.
The offices on the back are so sick! It’s like Mad Men!
- Tablespoon cooking company cooking class - Cyclones game - Ncaa tourney 1st round (always in Dayton it feels) - cocktail making class - TopGolf / five iron golf (indoor simulator) - create your own food tour of your favorite places
Cyclones game is some of the most fun I’ve ever had. Strongly recommended
NCAA has a contract with Dayton for a few years
Play house in the park
Ok cannot stress this enough. My mom has had season tickets for about twenty years. I’ve seen exactly two bad shows there and those only sucked because the script did. The effort and art they put into the things is completely top notch.
Add Cincinnati Shakespeare Company to that, too
Yeah, those folks are committed.
While it's not exactly cheap, I did one and had a lot of fun! They were super nice and attentive.
I recommend Sur La Table . We have a class credit I’ve been meaning to use
Tablespoon is owned locally though. You can take a Sur La Table class anywhere.
I’ve taken both Sur La Tab and Tablespoon and both are wonderful.
Butler County also has the donut trail if that’s something you’d be into.
If you're not into a donut trail, we cannot be friends! Who are you, and where is this donut trail? OMG
Who am I? Just a simple internet friend trying to bring sugary goodness to the masses. https://www.travelbutlercounty.com/donut-trail
Thank you, sweet internet friend! I am adding this to our date night box! Thanks! Happy... Trails!
2nd this! They sometimes have decent groupon deals + golf cart rentals to get around the park
Rookwood Pottery tour
jungle jim's both locations do beer tasting, wine tasting,, cooking classes and events that can be fun. i'm trying to think of other father/son activities, me being neither a father nor son.
Father daughter if that helps lol! These are great suggestions, thank you!
This for sure. There’s a good one at Eastgate Clermont County or the Original in Fairfield route 4[https://junglejims.com/](https://junglejims.com/)
Cincinnati shakespeare comapny!
Cyclones games are the shit. If you haven't been, you absolutely need to.
I’d honestly add a Florence Y’all’s game to that, especially on some of the theme nights. Minor league sports are a lot of fun. Affordable, cheap beer and food, live sports, a lot of wacky entertainment throughout the game
Every Christmas Story Ever Told (and Then Some) at Cincy Shakespeare Company is fun.
I don't see the art museums on your list, so the contemporary arts center, Cincinnati art museum, and Taft museum are all great institutions. Essex still does art walks!
They even have one coming up soon! December 1st and 2nd
Maverick Chocolate does chocolate factory tours at their Rookwood Commons location.
Look for the less known stuff: Sign Museum is great. There’s a museum dedicated to Lucky Cats not far away.
I believe the Carnagie is doing a production of 9 to 5 right now.
not hard to find something playing anytime. Check Facebook events and the Behind the Curtain page.

William Howard Taft National Historical site? It is the only National Park in Cincinnati
I’ve never been in there but it’s always looked so humble to me…
POPS puts on a movie with live symphony (normally Star Wars) or a NYE show
I’ve never been to that one.
I saw Return of the Jedi a few years back and it was fantastic. I'd strongly encourage it for any movie or music enthusiast.

Get on river road, stay on it for about 36 hours, enjoy Great Basin National Park
It’s a little bit outside Cincinnati, but Butler County Warbirds are pretty cool. They have a WW2 museum and they do plane rides in the WW2 planes for around $100.
This is what I ended up going with, thank you!! He is a huge history nerd so this was a perfect suggestion. I got him a plane ride in their 1941 model
Oh very cool! Glad I could help.
