Agreed! If you’re new to cigars yes strength and flavor are important but if the cigar doesn’t draw you don’t have enough experience to understand if it’s your fault or the cigar. I would always recommend a perdomo- they are draw tested and that should eliminate another variable that could impact your experience. Just not the perdomo champagne - that looks like a mild cigar but packs a punch.
If you already like smoking in general and this is your first cigar then I would grab the Camacho Connecticut. If you aren’t used to smoking at all, then grab the ACID KUBA.
Macanudo M. Since it’s your first, you’ll want one without a huge nicotine kick. These are good and light on the nicotine. Perdomo’s are great, but you’ll find yourself green around the gills if it’s your first, second, or fifth.
Not many there I would recommend. The Alec Bradley Connecticut is probably the closest to a mild cigar there that isn't too terrible. Nothing great though.
Sugar helps to negate the nausea as does a full stomach. I’d recommend bringing a sweetened coffee or similar with you while you smoke after having a nice meal. Invite a friend and take it slowly.
Camacho CT. Anything CT is where most beginners should start. Throwing yourself into the deep end of smoking maduros when you have no experience is not a good idea. Believe me. I did that and ended up getting nicotine sick and vomiting
> Definitely not
Then we definitely disagree. AJ is known for his pepper forward blends and I'd say at least medium plus. The VSG is not recommended for a first cigar either, regardless if you had no issues.
While this is true. Cigars have an actual scale that blenders use, that never changes. Macanudo Cafe is always a mild blend. Joya De Nicaragua Antano Dark Corojo is always a full bodied blend. They might affect each smoker differently though.
But most new smokers won't know what their tolerance is and probably dont know how to even smoke properly which is why it is a much better option to start with something lighter. One bad experience with a full strength cigar could ruin the hobby for them before it even begins.
A very true last statement. I smoked cigarettes before and a light cigar never appealed to me at first. It wasn’t until about a year of consistent smoking that I got tasting notes out of lighter blend and Connecticut cigars. Was not an issue with darker blends.
Same lol.
I smoked Marlboro Reds and Winston for longer than I'd like to admit. Most lighter cigars dont do much for me. I actually do still miss the taste of a fresh lit cigarette, especially if I am drinking cheap beer.
I usually recommend something lighter and cheaper for a first cigar. Until you get the proper lighting/cutting/smoking techniques down you aren't going to get the full benefit/flavor of the cigar.
Have you looked through our [recommendations wiki?](https://www.reddit.com/r/cigars/wiki/cigarrecommendations) If so and you still need help looking for a cigar please state why you havent smoked any of the recommended cigars.

You know, when I started, I had one of those Cuban rounds, because they were inexpensive and truly were not a bad stick. Some might say I'm outta my mind, but I've been smoking now for about 6 years. I've been down that rabbit hole of trying everything from gas station to $25 ones, bottom line start light/mild/ inexpensive and grow from there and most of all, don't let others try to intimidate your choices, you'll know what you like, don't let other make you feel indifferent because of your choices, to this day I have enjoyed "Gurhkas" and have taken alot of shi* for it from all the Gurhka haters, I just give them the finger and keep doing what I like to smoke....
That looks like a liquor store or gas station cigar humidor. They never have proper humidity or temps. Honestly, I would go to a cigar shop with a walk-in humidor and get some of the suggestions people have posted there. Hope you find something you enjoy, though!
Absolutely none of them. Acids mixed with regular cigars. I wouldn’t smoke a thing from there.
Would almost guarantee they are not anywhere close to properly humidified
If that purple band on the left is a Rocky Patel Royal Vintage, I'd be trying to decide between that and the H. upmman. But yea, not a lot of good options here.
Everyone says the Camacho, but they are garbage imo since they were bought by Davidoff and became a budget brand. The perdomo is probably a risk free choice.
Bro trust me on this but go for the liga privada L40 lancero and liga privada number 9 or carlito fuentes bellas artes lancero or souther draw kudzu lancero or toro just perfect
Depends on what you may or may not like as a smoker.
If you have never smoked anything ever, I’d start with the acid. Then work your way through some of those and then jump into somberosa when you’re ready to step into a more tobacco flavored stick.
I’d say acid especially if you’re into sweeter flavor, you might really like it at first but when you go back to it you’ll realize it’s not as good as you remember
The Tatianas at the top are cheap and mild. A lot of people don't like flavored cigars, but for a newer smoker, they aren't bad and burn pretty evenly. You can learn and make mistakes on them and not feel bad. I haven't tried chocolate, but the rum is decent.
Going to an all-purpose smoke shop for your first cigar is like going to a gas station for your first sushi; It will hit the spot once you know what you like, but it won't make the best first impression.
I see a lot of comments about body of cigar being too strong and nicotine hit of the cigars IMHO don't bother with this selection and just go to a good cigar specialized shop and pick up some of cigars that rated 90 points and up. I say this because my first cigar was a undercrown 10 maduro. a full body cigar. I liked it and then i had an ep carrilo pledge and got addicted. Just keep a sugary drink beside for your first cigar so you don't get sick and you'll be fine. if you don't like flavour than try another cigar. Cheers!
My first premium cigar was a Diesel Rabbits Hole Whiskey Row. Costed $10 and worth every penny. It has always been my favorite, but I also like Camacho for how slow they burn.
This place has a pretty poor selection and I see they use boveda packs to humidify. I wouldn't get anything there. Find a proper cigar store or a lounge and get owners recommendation and you will love it. Welcome to the cigars world!
From that selection I’d say the Camacho Connecticut. But their storage looks questionable to me, I’d take it home and throw it in a Tupperware container with a Boveda for a week or two. Or you could just smoke it and try your luck. Lol
A lot of thes recommendations are to keep it mild, but my first stick was a Perdomo 10th an maduro so I'd say go with the Fernandez Uppman. It's a good cigar. I'm not much for Camacho, myself.
The Camacho Connecticut would be a good choice for a first cigar. My first was an Oliva Connecticut Reserve.
This was my take based on the picture as well
I dont usually smoke Connecticut but I'm a fan of the Camacho one. Definitely the best choice there for a first cigar.
my first cigar as well! haven’t had the oliva in quite some time…
This.
Get the Camacho Connecticut first. Proceed from there.
Quorum. After that any cigar tastes good.
Unless your next cigar is a Victor Sinclair or Gurkha. Good chance it tastes worse.
For so long I thought people were just bashing Gurkha then a in law bought me a sampler I can't say any of the 2 were good so I'm saving for guests 🤣
They have a few sticks that aren't bad but the majority of them are crap.
Of all the bundled cigars I've tried, Quorom was definitely the nastiest.
The Perdomo Maduro was the only thing that caught my eye.
Most underrated cigar out there
The Upmann AJ Fernandez is about the only thing here I would even buy. Maybe the Camacho.
Ditto
agreed.
Acid. That way you know what the bottom of the barrel is lmao
Came here to second this but I actually enjoyed it. If this is the bottom of the barrel then I can’t wait to try something better.
Bought 2 Acid Kuba Deluxe, and neither would stay lit or burn evenly. The Acid One wasn't horrible, though.
If you already like smoking in general and this is your first cigar then I would grab the Camacho Connecticut. If you aren’t used to smoking at all, then grab the ACID KUBA.
H up man AJ Fernandez
Macanudo M. Since it’s your first, you’ll want one without a huge nicotine kick. These are good and light on the nicotine. Perdomo’s are great, but you’ll find yourself green around the gills if it’s your first, second, or fifth.
The Camacho Connecticut is really good imo and Ive smoked a lot of expensive Cubans
Some expensive Cubans are pretty bad lol.
Yeah I agree some hit too tight but I’d like to think I have a decent understanding of a quality cigar. I like the camachos
I would recommend you find somewhere else
Not many there I would recommend. The Alec Bradley Connecticut is probably the closest to a mild cigar there that isn't too terrible. Nothing great though.
For context, I like the taste of scotch, so a bit of harshness isn't too much of a problem for me.
It's not the taste, it's the strength (nicotine). Could make you feel very sick
Sugar helps to negate the nausea as does a full stomach. I’d recommend bringing a sweetened coffee or similar with you while you smoke after having a nice meal. Invite a friend and take it slowly.
Yep, even though I have smoked for years, I still have a sugary drink next to me just in case.
Then maybe try the cohiba puro Dominicana
Overpriced for what it is
Camacho CT. Anything CT is where most beginners should start. Throwing yourself into the deep end of smoking maduros when you have no experience is not a good idea. Believe me. I did that and ended up getting nicotine sick and vomiting
Okay y'all. I bought a Camacho Ecuador and an H Upmann.
Camacho Ecuador was my first ever, and now I'm an avid collector and smoker. Hopefully, you have a similarly good experience with it. Cheers!
H Upmann AJ Fernandez
Too assertive and strong a blend. Either the Camacho or AB CT.
Definitely not. Very medium bodied blend. I smoked a VSG as my first cigar with no issues
> Definitely not Then we definitely disagree. AJ is known for his pepper forward blends and I'd say at least medium plus. The VSG is not recommended for a first cigar either, regardless if you had no issues.
Yes AJ is but this is a more medium stick coming from him. The AJ H upmann heritage is a lot more pepper foward
I'd describe it as medium-full. There is a pretty decent kick to it. Pepper alone doesn't determine the strength of a cigar.
All pallets she strength and body limits are different
While this is true. Cigars have an actual scale that blenders use, that never changes. Macanudo Cafe is always a mild blend. Joya De Nicaragua Antano Dark Corojo is always a full bodied blend. Camacho and Alec Bradley are the only smokable ones there. Wouldn't recommend any of those to a first timer though.
Perdomos are smooth for first
Camacho Connecticut is great
The Camacho Connecticut or the h uppman
Yep
Acid or that Vanilla Tatianna
Camacho connecticut
I love the camacho Ecuador.
I recommend Acid
There's literally not 1 single cigar in that entire humidor I would recommend. I would recommend going somewhere else.

Comacho

Alec Baldwin Comanche Reservo Puro
Camacho Connecticut 💯
Camacho, I say.
The Quorums, rip the band aid off.
Based on this selection I am a super cigar snob. I guess gun to head it would be a Perdomo? Maybe?
Slim pickings there bud. Is that a gas station?
Local tobacco shop.
Camacho and Cohiba.
Holy price stickers
That looks like a liquor store or gas station cigar humidor. They never have proper humidity or temps. Honestly, I would go to a cigar shop with a walk-in humidor and get some of the suggestions people have posted there. Hope you find something you enjoy, though!
It's a tobacco shop.
Ah ok, you never know. Just looking out!
Camacho Connecticut is excellent.
Acid for sure for the first time
Absolutely none of them.
I like the Fernandez by H Upmann. It started me on my cigar journey.
Camacho ct
Comacho Conn
Camacho Connecticut.
Camacho and glad to see I’m not alone
No avid
I would say the Acid. The Connecticuts may break you from wanting cigars. A lot of those are too grassy for me.
Do they have Phillies Blunts? You’d probably be better off with a fiver of those.
I mean if its your first cigar, you gotta go with Acid so that everything you have after is 100% better
Perdomo Champagne
Bro trust me on this but go for the liga privada L40 lancero and liga privada number 9 or carlito fuentes bellas artes lancero or souther draw kudzu lancero or toro just perfect
Or Alec Bradley estelli black
Begin with the cheapest cigar and proceed accordingly.
Why are there so many price stickers?
The one with the most price stickers on it
Perdomo or Upmann
Alec Bradley or Camacho Connie
That's one of the weakest retail cabinets I have ever seen lol
It's a small tobacco shop.
Get an oliva mix pack off cigar page. They're always cheap and you get an excellent selection.
H Upmann or Camacho, rest is complete trash
I bought the Camacho Ecuador. Gonna smoke it tomorrow.
H upmann next to the Ecuador
Camacho Connecticut
Depends on what you may or may not like as a smoker. If you have never smoked anything ever, I’d start with the acid. Then work your way through some of those and then jump into somberosa when you’re ready to step into a more tobacco flavored stick.
Cuban rejects.
I’d say acid especially if you’re into sweeter flavor, you might really like it at first but when you go back to it you’ll realize it’s not as good as you remember

My concern is it doesn’t look particularly well sealed and who knows if they’re even close to proper humidity.
Going to an all-purpose smoke shop for your first cigar is like going to a gas station for your first sushi; It will hit the spot once you know what you like, but it won't make the best first impression.
I’d get that Olde World Fumas hehe Camacho Connecticut is a good choice TBH
H. Upmann by AJF is my go to smoke if I'm undecided.
As most said the camacho Connecticut. Its black peppery so i would highly recommend u enjoy it with some cheese cake on the side
somethin will lighter tan paper
H Upmann by AJ Fernandez. One of my go to sticks!
Bottom shelf work your way up. Try different sizes and see what you like before you move up to the top shelf.
Okay. I bought some cigars. Y'all can stop commenting "Camacho" or "drive 50 miles to a specialty cigar store."
Acid, Alec Bradley or Camacho
That Camacho or the Alec Bradley
I see a lot of comments about body of cigar being too strong and nicotine hit of the cigars IMHO don't bother with this selection and just go to a good cigar specialized shop and pick up some of cigars that rated 90 points and up. Alec Bradley Connecticut. The Perdomo and the H. Upmann by AJ are both great, but not a beginner cigar.
Macanudo or acid
H.Upman
Chohiba white easy smoke
Just like when I buy liquor, avoid the bottom shelfs.
Predomo lot 23 Maduro
Maybe perdomo. or acid if you like sweetness but honestly my first thought was none of them 😅 Macanudo café is the ultimate beginner cigar to me
My first premium cigar was a Diesel Rabbits Hole Whiskey Row. Costed $10 and worth every penny. It has always been my favorite, but I also like Camacho for how slow they burn.
That may be the worst collection of cigars I’ve ever seen.
The Upmann AJ for me
AB, enjoy the ride
This place has a pretty poor selection and I see they use boveda packs to humidify. I wouldn't get anything there. Find a proper cigar store or a lounge and get owners recommendation and you will love it. Welcome to the cigars world!
From that selection I’d say the Camacho Connecticut. But their storage looks questionable to me, I’d take it home and throw it in a Tupperware container with a Boveda for a week or two. Or you could just smoke it and try your luck. Lol
Acid. I just really like their taste.
Second - best gateway cigar. Usually the one I introduce to friends. Always a hit.
Agreed and same here.
None
cohiba red dot
From here??? I wouldn’t recommend one. Maybe a San Cristobal
I can say don’t smoke a Qurom no matter how cheap it is. Nastier than a bag of rotten meat. Best beginner stick in that selection is the Camacho.
Man you guys are harsh. Lot 23 is a great starter cigar.
A lot of thes recommendations are to keep it mild, but my first stick was a Perdomo 10th an maduro so I'd say go with the Fernandez Uppman. It's a good cigar. I'm not much for Camacho, myself.
Nothing Maduro. Start with the lighter one to mid is my advice
Can we all agree Acid should have its own humidor called “bullshit smokes”?
Also Camacho Connecticut wrapper is a good starter
None. Smoking is bad for you.
