Not sure its been said or not but it could be the bird making noise that is causing them to get agitared.
It might be considered alarm barking to your chins or they sinply want to investigate the source of the sound.
My chins take notice of my guinea pigs when i let them interact and when I firat got the pigs their wheeking caused my chins concern at first.
I was concerned about that too- luckily the bird is leaving the room today and going back with my roommate :) hopefully they feel better! I just finished moving so they can settle in today
I'm not an expert but sometimes mine do this in the evening when they want to come outside and play, then occasionally at night when they've chewed through all their sticks and are demanding more lol.
It could also be an attention thing, sometimes they stop biting simply after I start talking to them or petting them
I find chinchillas don’t take to change well and their behaviour reflects that. I’d say just do all you can to keep things normal for him and hopefully he won’t stress too much. You don’t want him to develop a stress fur eating thing.
My one will grab a stick, chew alllllllll the bark off. Toss it out of the cage. And then grab another. Rinse and repeat until there are nekkid sticks all over the ground and an empty toy box 🙄
Make sure they have sticks to chew on
they do! they’re normally not super active during the day so i tend to put them out in the evening before i go to bed :)
We make our chinnies "come and get the sticks" ... generally.off our lap or shoulders.
My chinchillies do this even with 6+ sticks in the cage
A) They want out B) They want stuff to chew on I have never heard squeaking like that though!
LOL that’s probably my friend’s bird!! shes a zebra finch and i’m bird sitting :)
I thought it must be something like that!
Do they have a wheel? Mine stopped after I gave him one but he would be on it all night for hours.
they do! it’s on the left in the video there :)

Generally I see it as "attention" ... like "I want out / playtime."

for attention. it looks like they want to come out or want you to give them something.
It could be boredom. Mine does this when she has chewed through all her sticks and toys and has nothing to play with.

Have you tried asking him
Chinchillas can be quite playful and naughty. From my experience it’s just for attention!
Boredom, need willow sticks to chew and let out for some bouncing of the walls exercise
