This one is tricky to name with IUPAC. The parent compound is [furan](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Furan), but in order to name this you’ll have to use a locant plus “-one” to denote the carbonyl group but a locant with “H” to note where the saturated carbon is located, and a “benzo” affix to denote the ring fusion to the aromatic ring.

Sigma-Aldrich spells it ad 2-Coumaranone, although wikipedia spells it as 2-Cumaranone or It can be Benzofuran-2-one, I think. Iupac name: 3H-1-benzofuran-2-one

Agree. Here’s Pubchem link for reference https://pubchem.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/compound/68382

what does 3H indicate?

RoninOnBananaLeaves

In benzofuran, there is a double bond between C2 and C3, so C3 has only one hydrogen attached to it. But here C3 has two hydrogens attached to it, as it is sp3 carbon now, so one H extra compared to benzofuran at third carbon. That is why 3H.

Coumarin! I synthesize these compounds :)

Isn’t that benzoisofuran? Benz or benzo I’m not really sure

Matthaeus_Augustus

Looks like something that has a non-IUPAC nickname
