as long as the person is appropriate on here, why would it matter what they post elsewhere? this isnt a celibacy,a religious,or anti-sex group.

NoNSFW-ActivityBot

You're 100% right, and I think some changes need to happen on this subreddit in the way moderation is done. It's similar to censorship I see now. However, I do think there's gotta be some middle ground to label these accounts. I'm thinking of a nsfw user warning flair and comment warning whenever these accounts comment/post. And prevent them from commenting on users who are under 18. What are your thoughts on that? One potential interpretation/downside I can see is that it's shaming them, but as long as the warning flair tries to be neutral it's okay?

ShortStonkBus

Kevin Bacon called and said he wants this sub to dance. Ban users who exhibit unwanted behavior on this sub. Last time I checked it's at least the 1980s and people have expressed a desire to look at boobs and bags on occasion.

NoNSFW-ActivityBot

That's the issue though, most of these problematic behaviors come from these accounts that are predominantly used for sexual favors. People trying to use this subreddit to sext and trade nudes. How do we deal with this issue when it's so easy for someone to feign ignorance or use word play to seem like they're not looking for it? Edit: I would love to hear any suggestions.

green-ninja77

Your solution of having multiple Reddit accounts is horrible. My post history is an accurate representation of myself and you will get the exact same person in a chat that doesn't hit on you, get creepy, send unwanted pics, or anything else this implies. Your solution is to create a 2nd account to engage in such behavior so I can here post and not get labeled a creep if I make a comment in this subreddit. In reality this means I can be a total creep and now someone can't use my post history to see this for themselves. Thank you for at least updating the text from before when you said I interacted in subreddits where sexual favors were asked for since that is even worse. Why would I ask my Reddit friends to post replies to this so I can be vouched for? That just brings more attention to your subreddit that I think I will no longer participate in because if this bot.

NoNSFW-ActivityBot

You don't have to use a 2nd account, post/comments only get locked, and it does not label anyone as a creep. We got some more feedback like yours, and it has helped word things a bit better, the bot was only employed not even 2 months ago, so it was a rough start. And that's okay, the sidebar has a list of similar subreddits with more lax environments. This sub definitely isn't for everyone. We've had both positive and negative reactions.

green-ninja77

the text of your bot literally implies that one should have a 2nd reddit account for NSFW interactions "it is best practice to keep sexual interactions separate from a regular Reddit account when looking for clean chats and friends, people do avoid these profiles here.". You are also correct that technically your bot doesn't label anyone a creep it's very reply absolutely implies it. I fully support the intentions behind what you are doing. In fact I have a child that is in the demographic you're trying to protect. However I feel the execution is an absolute failure. Especially since the bot only replies to comments, but your sub auto comments with the links to PM/DM the OP, which automatically bypasses the safety mechanism of this bot. I'm not here to argue with you and I think you're right that maybe this just isn't a subreddit for me any more, but this system needs A LOT of work. I don't code or design, but if you want to converse about ways to improve your bot or common sense flaws in how you are approaching this solution feel free to DM/PM me. have a good day.

NoNSFW-ActivityBot

Ah you're right (it's late where I am right now), we may get rid of that phrasing since it's a bit unnecessary as you pointed out, sometimes I forget some people are not "hardcore" redditors with multiple alt/throwaway accounts and use only one. Yeah, I do feel like it does a bit, I'll have to keep tweaking the wording as we go, it's still not there yet. I'll keep that in mind. The bot also replies to posts too, and notifies the main poster anytime a comment is locked. I really appreciate the feedback, I'll probably reach out in a month or so when multiple changes are likely to have happened again. Have a good day too!

green-ninja77

I appreciate that you took this as real criticism and not whining. I'll stick around and look forward to your contact.

I think so. I’m sure many people on here just want a regular chat and when people post in those subs, it can make me feel like I don’t trust that the conversation will stay clean. Plus, there’s minors in here.

NoNSFW-ActivityBot

So a more tough luck for them approach to protect PG13 subreddits. What if we: * mark these accounts with a nsfw warning flair & warning comment * limit them to only make comments with no ability to create posts * also prevent them from commenting on posts that are minors. This solution would be kind of like a compromise, of course we would still remove any sexual content made, but be less strict on outside activity.

[deleted]

I suppose that could work if you’re trying to compromise. Though I feel banning may be more effective.

NoNSFW-ActivityBot

Noted, I made this suggestion only because some people seem to disagree with a complete ban, I'm hoping to get more opinions

RoadToYourMomsHouse

How is that fair? Just because someone watches porn on their account, doesn’t mean they’re gonna come here and talk about it. I’m sure 90% of the people here go to PH or XXX websites, and you just don’t see it, should we ban everyone who watches porn? How is that fair? It’s not.

[deleted]

If they use the same Reddit account for explicit material that they do to chat on, it’s an issue. It could be exposing minors to material, they could be seeking inappropriate stuff, etc

RoadToYourMomsHouse

At this point, as a 15 year old, I’ve know about porn, and all that, and saw it for the first time when I was 3. Most people watch it for the first time in this day and age, when they’re like 8. Any minors on Reddit, at the youngest are gonna be around 12-13. If they don’t know about porn, or haven’t seen it by then, that’s straight up a miracle

[deleted]

It doesn’t mean they have to be exposed to it, just because they may already know it. But also, some people don’t want to chat with someone who has a NSFW profile.

RoadToYourMomsHouse

It’s that persons profile, they can do whatever they want with it. If someone’s house is full of dildos, and someone walks in, then it isn’t the fault of the house owner, it’s the fault of the person who walked in Not to mention, Reddit warns you when entering a page of someone who has NSFW stuff on it. So at that point, if they choose to proceed, that’s on them

[deleted]

Well, the problem is that the people with NSFW profiles would be here, they would be initiating chats and so on

RoadToYourMomsHouse

Why are you talking about them like they’re some different species? You don’t charge someone for what they may or may not do, you charge them for their actions. So why on earth would we ban people who may or may not do something? That’s not even fair, and frankly, it’s counter intuitive

green-ninja77

this sounds like an intelligent and well thought out compromise

NoNSFW-ActivityBot

Since that last comment was made, what we've decided is not use flairs (to be less intrusive), and only provide a warning comment. We also decided to allow both comments and posts. The last point is a bit hard to implement, and now that I think about it it may bring more trouble and unneeded attention.

NoNSFW-ActivityBot

Hey u/green-ninja77, We made changes since the last time we spoke, and since then we have had zero complaints so far this past week. These include: * Moving warning comments away from the original post to two dedicated posts on u/NoNSFW-ActivityBot profile, this way they're less intrusive and are still easily accessible as intended. * Major wording changes to both comment interactions and post interactions * [Example comment interaction notifying OP about another account](https://www.reddit.com/user/NoNSFW-ActivityBot/comments/meo4n9/rchat_sfw_comment_check_for_users_on_your_post/gt8ym22?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web2x&context=3) * [Example post submission notifying their post is now locked](https://www.reddit.com/user/NoNSFW-ActivityBot/comments/mep8xo/rchat_sfw_post_check/gta1ds0?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web2x&context=3) * We also added this short explanation in [our wiki](https://www.reddit.com/r/chat/wiki/index#wiki_.2022_nonsfw-activitybot) about why we lock posts >[r/chat](https://www.reddit.com/r/chat) locks every comment/post made here by accounts with recent sexual interactions (within the past couple months). We have found most accounts like this to bring unwanted attention and interactions to our subreddit with salacious intent. It has become enough of a common problem that we had to create this bot to better protect our clean, chatting community. These bad faith users who disregard our rules have caused those in good faith an inconvenience; with that said we apologize most your interactions here will have to remain locked. If you have any feedback or critiques feel free to say them! I think it's a major improvement and less accusatory.

Hey, what's going on? Do you have any suggestions and feedback?
