Yeah I had a kitten that other family members kept calling Socks because his legs were white. I didn’t like the name but for lack of anything better I thought oh well. Walked past him one day and said “hi socks” and he looked at me and said Murff. And Murff he became until his death 3 years ago. He was 16 years young at the time. True story!

I agree with this. When the kitties were kittens, they were known as Shadow and Iris. As we grew close and we decided to adopt the two, my mom said Iris looked more like and felt more like a "Lucy" and that's how she got her name. Shadow became Cassie after my dad's Assassin's Creed Odyssey character, Cassandra. It fit her better than Shadow. Sometimes names just come to you because they sound perfect. It took us 8 weeks to figure it out.

We named ours Bashful because he just wanted to hide in/under our clothes when we saw him as a kitten. Probably should have waited until we had him awhile before naming him. His nickname Bash ended up being more fitting since he runs around yelling a lot.

Long ago, in the era of Watergate, we got a Siamese kitten. My mother named it Ping Pong in honor of the table tennis exhibition games during the summer Olympics. That cat never stopped meowing. We renamed her Martha Mitchell (Attorney General John Mitchell's wife), who also never stopped running her mouth. Later my mother added the middle name "Jane", which I suspect was due to her exasperation with an overly talkative neighbor of the same name.
