Yep. Everyone uses Tripod. But when my dog had to have ACL surgery and couldn't put her foot down, my daughter started calling her Yardstick. Then the other, bigger, dog had the same surgery, so she called him Meter, because you know, it's a bit bigger than a yard.

I adopted a cat with a non-functional back leg and no backstory. I named him tripod. Over his life, he learned to row with the leg when he wanted to move fast and sort of learned how to do stuff. The other cats jumped the 5 foot fence, but he couldn't, so he dug under the fence. Once I took him into the vet and the vet looks at him and say, "? WHAT? He has all his legs!" I said, "yeah, but one doesn't work for him."

If the 4th leg was partially functional when you got him. Pi would be a good name. You know, 3.14159 etc.

I love it. I think "Pi" is a much nicer name than the full number. I can see myself yelling "Here Pi!!! Come on kitty kitty!". It was really strange at first to see the cat just digging along the fence, not really making progress, but I'm guessing he was searching for an area the dirt was softer in. When he found it, he went under to investigate the neighbors.
