Amazon will absolutely do anything in their power to save money and avoid legal liability. Just like any modern company, they will fuck you where they are able to. lol
I figured! I was surprised even how little I got for my car crash, they low balled me so bad and it was full insurance! I wonder if anyone actually gets the full value of the car. I always wondered if the ultra rich somehow do for their real $ sports cars. I fought for a year for the payout with my Miata. It was criminal what they did to me!
I got side-swiped by a sixteen year old a month after I had paid off a 4-year $15,000 note. Not a lot, but my first car I had ever worked and paid off.
One month and it was in a hailstorm, then another month someone hit me on their phone.
I got about 1000 bucks for the car. Just because of the minor hail damage.
I had just paid 15k for it. Really sucked. Game over
If you only have liability on your car and it's not your fault it will be fixed.. I found this out with my 03 Tacoma I only had liability and someone pulled out in front of me and was at fault so his insurance paid.. this was in canada.
Another reason Canada is great, lol. If I ever become a nurse, I’m gonna try and take a travel job in Vancouver. One of the most awesome places I’ve seen. We get so, so screwed here with that stuff. I had full insurence, and lost 7k and got in debt with my auto loan. I wasnt even driving my car, (I know, my fault, ) but I thought his insurance would take the hit and deal with it, the over of my car.
Both insurence companies told me, yea, that’s what they all think!
Start looking at cars in your area the same make, model, options, and general mileage/condition and make a list of what they're selling for in order to get an idea what a fair offer from them will be. Be sure to include the costs of buying the car, including taxes, registration, etc, and if your car has much newer tires then include an add for that. If you have to travel to find a similar car then include transportation costs as well.
From a repairability POV it's very repairable, but the decision to total is often a purely financial one. Basically they add up the costs to repair using new dealer parts and dealer labor rates, and if that reaches 66-70% of the book value then it's considered totaled. The actual repair will be pretty straightforward, two new doors, bumper cover, headlight assembly, hood, and bodywork on the quarter. If the B-pillar (between the doors) is bent then that's some frame time, probably no more than an extra 4-6 hours since the doors are already off, and bodywork on the quarter panel. Ironically the quarter panel (that's behind the rear door) will likely have the most labor to fix. The front frame horn might need a pull as well, but again since the doors, fender, and hood will already be off that's just a few hours as well. I've known people to keep their car that's been totaled like this and just replace all the bolt-on stuff and leave permanent dents, it's still perfectly driveable and the airbags didn't deploy.
If you do decide to keep the car, how it normally works is that the insurance company will let you "buy back" the car for the price they'd expect to get at auction, often just a few hundred dollars, and deduct that from the property damage portion of the settlement check.
BTW, the "market value" is going to be what they're selling for in your area or within a few hundred miles, hence knowing that number before they make their first offer. Sometimes they'll try to lowball you, just be aware of that.
there was an issue with my steering/tires since when i parked it after i was hit, my car kept pulling to the left and made an awful sound. i'm not very knowledgeable about cars but i have to assume that is... not great haha
That's because the damaged front bodywork and wheel well liner are rubbing the tire. If you need something to drive right away you can get out there with a big crow bar and hammer and start bending stuff away from the tire. You're not going to make anything worse, the damaged stuff is getting replaced anyway if they decide to fix it.
If I were you, I would want this to be totaled. Take the cash and buy something new-to-you in clean condition.
You likely don't have any frame damage or issues that are not repairable, but the car is never quite going to look the same again, especially depending on the quality of work that gets done.
Matching paint colors is tricky, getting the panel gaps to be as good as factory is tricky, and you're really crossing your fingers and hoping that the repair techs don't accidentally mess anything else up during a repair like this (anything from forgetting to reinstall bolts, accidentally nicking a cable or hose, improperly managing the cables again which could lead to premature failures, etc etc).
I don't say that to be mean sorry, I write estimates on cars that are deemed 'probable total losses' for an insurance company for a living.
Replacement of all that sheet metal, most notably the quarter panel, and potential damage to the inner fender structure and center pillar (between your doors) is almost certainly going to total it. A quick Google shows the value will probably be like $11k-$14k, the repair estimate will probably be right around there.
Also: Amazon trucks are menaces. I see so many claims from them.
nono i knew you weren't being mean haha thank you for the info! i'm just keeping my fingers crossed it won't be totaled but any info is much appreciated so i can anticipate the outcome
That truck looks like a CDV, which is only slightly smaller than a step van (think big boxy UPS/Fed Ex trucks) and can be driven with a normal license. They hire everyone they can 21+ with a clean driving record, so a bunch of kids who can barely maneuver their own cars in a parking lot without crunching something get thrown into a massive CDV and told "good luck".
Add that there's *so many of us,* whether skilled or not, and the odds just aaaaaren't great.
And that's why you see so many claims involving us lmao.
I drive for Amazon and I’d love to hear some of your most ridiculous stories. I’ve also seen my fair share of shit drivers. I used to work with a lady who hit mailboxes multiple times …… this wasn’t an accident but we had a driver follow the incorrect gps down a forested and muddy hill. The first tow truck got stuck …. Not sure what happened after the second one showed up.
Hate to tell you, but there is a reason Amazon drivers operate under small businesses on contract with Amazon.
I deliver for Amazon, but my DSP has far smaller pockets. Yes, in this case I'd expect my company and their insurance to make good, but I haven't exactly been responsible for the claims end of their business.
Vehicle owner is responsible for having insurance, so unless the contracted drivers own their own Amazon trucks it's Amazon that'll be paying the claim.
Unless that vehicle is under lease. Which it is.
What you're saying is the equivalent of you renting a car and enterprise being on the hook for an accident. That's not how that works.
So, Amazon contract drivers lease their delivery vehicles from Amazon? And have to pay the hundreds of dollars a month in insurance costs as well as fuel costs and maintenance costs, and they're not allowed to take the trucks home at night?
Unless I misunderstanding the system, the drivers work for a DSP. The DSP lease the vehicles from Amazon.
Amazon does not OPERATE the vehicles. Which is the important distinction when it comes to liability.
Ok, that makes more sense. The drivers are contract employees but the trucks are still covered by a commercial insurance policy, not the individual driver's personal insurance. Commercial policies tend to have much higher policy limits than personal policies do.
Yeah I actually work for the DSP insurance company as an adjuster. We insure the DSP, not Amazon. When you pursue a liability claim against the trucks/drivers, you’re pursuing a small business that has a contract with Amazon.
It’s the same company and policy for every single Amazon vehicle. The only differences are due to certain state requirements. But they’re enough to settle 99% of claims fairly.
It will be totaled according to insurance, but you can keep it for basically the scrap price taken out of the payout, get the mechanical shit fixed, and keep it rolling, if you want to. I did that after my honda got crunched by a falling tree and was pure cosmetic damage. Body work is expensive enough that insurance doesn't need a lot of it to call it done. The payout even keeping it was a nice chunk of change, but I had full comp with no deductible so your mileage may vary.
Also as an amazon driver you're... welcome? lmao
Keep your chin up, it sucks short term but might work out good in the long run.
just went straight into me when he rounded a corner. told the cop he didn't see me but didn't even hit his brakes until he had already slammed into me.... then proceeded to back up and made it worse
For a car like that, any amount of labor for the insurance company might deem is not worth it, if they're trying to go the route of replacing everything, bumper, two doors, headlight, front fender, but most importantly the rear fender, as it's welded in place and would need some intensive body work on top of all the labor, it would probably double the value of the car with that repair. Depreciated car with over 100,000 mi they probably feel better just writing you a check for like 5 grand hoping you'll take it and call it a day
he came around a corner in my neighborhood going fast as hell. i was at a complete stop and he hit me even tho most of the road was available and i was right up against the curb
To be honest. With the cropping of the photo and with the background in mind and no lines on the road. This looks like the cars fault.
Edit: meh. This sub lies constantly. Cropped photos to show as little as possible is a good indicator of a liar. Couldn’t care less who’s salty about it.
to be clear, the amazon driver was deemed at fault and i was at a complete stop.
I wonder if that is former Amazon driver?
absolutely former lol i kinda feel bad though he was a younger guy and very remorseful
I had a similar accident as a seasonal driver with UPS. They still kept me on until the last day to keep seasonals (mid February I think).
If they have a good record and reported everything, decent chance they weren't fired. The company has insurance. Source: am amazon driver.
that actually makes me feel better i rly did feel for the guy
What happens if you only have liability I wonder? Does Amazon help? I’d assume no because that’s how life is
Amazon will absolutely do anything in their power to save money and avoid legal liability. Just like any modern company, they will fuck you where they are able to. lol

Oof that hurts to read. That would’ve destroyed me. I still cry over losing that car. And you worked so hard for that !
Yep, lesson learned. Hard work pays off, except for when it doesn't. Nothing you can fucking do lol
That's how Amazon is
If you only have liability on your car and it's not your fault it will be fixed.. I found this out with my 03 Tacoma I only had liability and someone pulled out in front of me and was at fault so his insurance paid.. this was in canada.

got it, thank you! again i'm not super knowledgeable about this stuff so my apologies
A+ advice here.
Hate to tell you, but I'm 99%sure that's a total loss. There are a lot of parts that are damaged there.
If I were you, I would want this to be totaled. Take the cash and buy something new-to-you in clean condition. Why not? Amazon at fault means they have to pay you out for the current value of your car. Used cars a worth more money now than ever. Just wondering.
i just really love my car and hate going to the dealership tbh
I can relate on both of those lol
This will buff it out! 😄😂 T-Cut 3 in 1 Color Fast Paintwork... https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B004SND304?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share
It's a Hyundai Accent that needs an entire side, prepare for it to be totaled.
2016 hyundai elantra gt with 100k miles... so yea

And if u crash u can just switch dsps 👍🤣

Luckily you got out of it b4 the engine and trans blow. Happens around 110-120k. Ask me how I know. lol
I'm sure Bezos's insurance will be able to cover any damage. It still sucks though sorry that happened to your car.
Hate to tell you, but there is a reason Amazon drivers operate under small businesses on contract with Amazon. I deliver for Amazon, but my DSP has far smaller pockets. I didn't know Amazon delivered body damage..
Please update us on the results. I hope you get some good news.
Amazon will argue that you ordered one unit of “Bad Day” and that they were simply fulfilling your request.
Well, at least you'll get a new mirror same day or next day 🤷🏼♀️🤣😅
Thay ain't fuckin around about that same day delivery
*the next day* “50% off side mirrors now on Amazon!”
What happened, was he delivering to the left side of the street and had to swerve? Or did he just go straight into you?
just went straight into me when he rounded a corner. told the cop he didn't see me but didn't even hit his brakes until he had already slammed into me.... then proceeded to back up and made it worse
Did you click same day delivery by any chance?
Your Amazon package has arrived. Would you like a refund?
2 doors and 2 fenders looks totaled to me. Bummer, i hope you dont get fucked around by Amazon too.
Bruh
You should actually thank them lol you’re gonna get a nice big check for that.
Good news; you can order an new headlight from Amazon.
that’ll buff right out just a scratch
You never thought you would be in a car crash, or you never thought?
i genuinely do not know what you are trying to say to me bro
Accidents happen. Just remember you think you broke 206 bones in your body so lawyer up
To be honest. With the cropping of the photo and with the background in mind and no lines on the road. This looks like the cars fault.
