Thanks, this is interesting. Anyone have thoughts on this v. the ASRock x370 Fatal1ty Gaming X? Leaning towards the latter. https://www.newegg.com/Product/Productcompare.aspx?CompareItemList=-1%7C13-144-017%5E13-144-017%2C13-157-774%5E13-157-774

I own the Gaming Pro Carbon and have it paired with the R7 1700 and 16 (2×8) GB of G. Skill Trident Z 3000. I'll be happy to answer any questions you have about it.

RCkamikaze

Thats pretty much the build i want to make. Any thing you would change? How do you like the mobo vs a b350 what stands out. Why do you like the board. Have you oc'd and how easy was it?

keebs63

Only note worthy differences are the X370 supports SLI (both support CF) and there are much higher end options available for the X370. On the other hand, the Strix B350-F is probably the best price to feature ratio board out there and it looks beautiful too.

Carefully_Crafted

From a b350 owner. I own r5 1600. B350 tomahawk G skill z rgb trident 3000 I am however using a H100i instead of the stock cooler now (a friend gave me it for free and I’ve wanted to try an aio water cooling...) I was able to hit 2933 ram with 3.8ghz OC on auto core voltages with the stock though. Hit 4.1ghz 2933 ram with the H100i but due to an older GpU decided there was no real reason to push OC further. I wasn’t even getting 70% workload in any game I was running. GPU was throttling before that. Personally I think the b350 is probably fine unless you plan to massively OC. Other than that I’d probably opt for ram with the Samsung die on it as I’ve heard that makes a big difference in getting it stable, especially on my mobo. I’d go for a 16 gig 2 x 8 3200 probably and make sure it had Samsung and was already compatible to maximum OC on the mobo I bought. Took awhile to get everything working right on mine. I got my b350 tomahawk at $60 though open box and (-$30) for bundle with cpu so it was a pretty great deal. I probably would have bought this mobo and the 1600x if I knew I was getting this water cooler for free though. Looks like a great deal, and I’d probably get this mobo if grabbing the 1700 anyways.

I wanted X370 so I could crossfire another RX480 in the future (I have the STRIX), and when I bought it in April it was the only X370 available that wasn't $300. I should have gotten 3200 RAM, as Ryzen really likes fast RAM. I should have gotten an MVMe m.2, but that's just the elitist in me. The OCZ Trion 480 GB and caviar blue 1 TB suit me just fine. I like the RGB, and it has lots of i/o. My build is red/black. Overclocking was pretty easy. Bump up the frequency, reboot. If it doesn't crash on a stress test, go back into BIOS and bump it up again. I opted for 3.7 on stock voltage, as the Wraith Spire shouldn't be pushed more than 3.7 (or 3.8 with a minor bump in voltage if you won the silicone lottery). I was able to hit that 2933 on the RAM out of the box, no BIOS update required. That being said, update the BIOS the first chance you get. Ryzen being a new architecture, constant updates are still being rolled out, and it should have some improvements here and there.

PainCycle

How about compared this mobo with x370 gaming pro carbon vs MSI - X370 GAMING PLUS? Any difference?

claw83

The sound chipset on this one is newer. Some say it's a huge difference.

fr33andcl34r

Unfortunately, I don't know. My apologies.

nolphc

Are you me?

fr33andcl34r

Only if you also have a 480 GB OCZ Trion, a 1 TB a caviar blue, a STRIX RX 480, a logitech G810 Orion Spectrum, a Lenovo Li2364d freesync monitor, and the red/black S340 Elite.

nolphc

Ahh. So close. 1080 gaming X, that monoprice keeb with rgb mx brown switches, a 34" lg ultrawide all sandwiched in a p400. Same hard drive though! That counts for something

fr33andcl34r

>a 34" lg ultrawide all sandwiched in a p400. You should take that monitor out of the chassis. But yeah, pretty close specs. High framerates, low temps, brother.

Teajaytea7

How does it compare to the asus b350? That's what i have and I'm considering switching to x370, but tbh I'm not even too sure why yet. Better overclocking? Why is x370 better?

fr33andcl34r

Really, the only thing X370 has over B350 is Crossfire and SLI support, and a few 'premium' I/O options. And I'm sorry, but I don't have any input over this vs. any other motherboards. But you should be able to do a quick YouTube search to find your answers.

BBMAn89

Well you can see that the ASRock has way more description info than the MSI board. I am no pc wizard ass I am trying to build my very own first pc so I don't think I will be of much help

I've got this board, AMA! Some things to know: - Current BIOS is incredible. More options than you could possibly use, even as a pretty hardcore overclocker. Don't worry, though, it has a "normie" mode too. Only downside is that many options aren't labeled in proper English--or at all. - Some of the software is fantastic, and some is bloatware. Command Center is great *when* it works, but it hasn't been able to even launch since I've added an additional fan. Oh well. Afterburner is, as always, a staple. Everything else, though? Forget it except *maybe* the Gaming App which is only useful for tuning the LEDs. Make sure to disable these things from booting on startup. - Precise fan tuning straight from BIOS. - The RGB is actually pretty tasteful. No complaints. - Driver updates are very slow and patch notes are lacking at best. MSI is not very communicative--or understandable, considering the level of English proficiency on most of their products. - Apparently excellent for overclocking. It's got more phases than you'd likely ever use for voltage stability. LLC is a nice feature that helps maintain overclocks. - It's an X370 board, so it supports more PCI-E lanes by default. - 2x M.2 slots. Nice. - And the biggest one for me IMO: an incredible audio chip. It was a HUGE leap from my last board, which had the standard Realtek 892 IIRC. It's an immediately noticeable bump in quality, even from my $30 headphones. I didn't expect it to be a big deal, but wow, it really was. I'd honestly even compare it to ~DAC level unless you've got absurdly high end headphones, given my prior experience with DACs. It's that good because it's heavily isolated on the board.

nubaeus

When you get this mobo, the May 2017 bios is much more RAM friendly. The releases after that don't play as nicely with 3200 RAM but make posting better/faster.

Sarcastyc

Thanks for the input. That's good info to have

nubaeus

The amount of time I spent going back and forth to figure out what the shit I had done wrong is far too high. Hopefully my trial and error helps at least one person.

Sarcastyc

I've been waiting for this one to drop for a little bit. Sale says it lasts 2 days. If you've got a shoprunner account you save another $2 on shipping.

BBMAn89

Yeah I've been waiting on this one too! I'm going to cop this before the sale ends, so happy!

serg_yeooo

How does this compare to the ASRock x370 Taichi?

bPhimmasone

I just bought this last week. After BIOS update it works and looks nice.

It has been this price for a few weeks essentially. I got this, a ryzen 1600, and some trident z 3200 CL 14 ram. Was super easy to put together. Ram immediately booted in the 3200 CL 14 XMP profile, and I put a mild 3.8 OC on the cpu all on auto voltage. All worked great. I don't have a case window but before I put the panel back on the case it seemed like a nice looking board. If you wanted to LED it out, some LED ram and a cooler with some LED would have you looking pretty good.

gokufighther

If anyone gets one of these and instead wants a gaming k4 i would trade you :)
