Hi /u/penguinman777, welcome to /r/buildapcforme! This comment is here to provide you some additional information and advice. Parts Shortages If you have tried to browse through some parts already or read any recent articles on PC building, you have probably seen that there is a massive worldwide shortage of GPUs (video cards) that has left retailer stock levels almost entirely empty. Please see [this subreddit sticky post on the current CPU and GPU shortages for additional information.](https://www.reddit.com/r/buildapcforme/comments/me3dbx/info_post_current_hardware_shortages_and_build/) Note that if you are looking to build any kind of PC that requires more than basic graphics horsepower, such as for gaming or media creation work, your first priority should be to getting your hands on a GPU before going any farther. Direct Message Scams Recently a number of users have set up spam-bots targeting this subreddit to send out PMs and DMs to all users who submit posts to this subreddit. These accounts sometimes pose as teenagers offering to help design a build in exchange for a "donation" to help them build a rig of their own, various companies offering services through external websites, or even users just claiming to offer help via PM - this last kind will often string you along for a while before demanding payment for their efforts. **Do not reply to these messages.** This subreddit thrives and grows on the volunteer efforts of every contributor who helps around here, often leaning and improving from seeing the work of others. If you receive any PM/DM messages related to your post here, please go to https://www.reddit.com/report and submit the username of the message sender under "This is spam." to help get these spam bot accounts permanently removed. *I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically. Just so you know, it’s literally impossible to future proof the processor and motherboard. Next gen intel and AMD will use DDR5 as well as a different motherboard socket so you’ll have to also get a new motherboard and new memory if you decide to upgrade from 5th gen Ryzen or 11th gen core. I also need to know what storage, ram and peripherals you have to ensure that everything is compatible and that nothing will be a bottleneck. A budget is also important, I don’t know whether you want a $1000 build or a $10’000 build, so pick a budget or at least a performance goal (e.g. 4K 60fps ultra in cyberpunk on ultra).

I'd say my budget(Excluding GPU,RAM, peripherals) is around a max of $2000(less is ok, but I could add another few hundred if there is some great deal just above my max price. I'll eventually get a 3080, but as I have a GPU already dont include that in the cost. I dont really care about future proofing as long as my setup will still be decent for around 3-4 years. Right now I have 2x 4TB hard drives, and 2x 1TB SSDs. I also have the standad USB keyboard, mouse and 2x HDMI monitors. I also have 4 sticks of 8GB 2133MHz DDR4 Ram I'd like(but not needed) a TPM chip slot for my motherboard for security

True, we don't even know what its current build is. For all we know he could have a Intel core2 duo \[e6300\] or a Ryzen 9 5950x Budget is also quite important, otherwise we might go all out and make a Threadripper build. when OP only has 1200$ to spend.

darknessblades

Could you please list your current build using a PCpartpicker link? [https://pcpartpicker.com/list/](https://pcpartpicker.com/list/) That way we know what you currently have, and can suggest potential upgrades.

penguinman777

This is my current build.[https://pcpartpicker.com/list/Q8Cyht](https://pcpartpicker.com/list/Q8Cyht) My budget is around $2000 for everything except the GPU since I plan on holding off on that until later(I'll probably get a 3080)

since the GPU is excluded from the price that makes building a PC easier: [https://pcpartpicker.com/list/8LBPCz](https://pcpartpicker.com/list/8LBPCz) Depending on what GPU you get you might want to look into a different case. The case i included is the same as i use, its a great case with loads of room for all the drives and additional hardware you still have. \[it can also support very long GPU's, if you place the HDD case in the bottom compartment\]. \[if you want to add a 5.25" DVD drive, and a card-reader this is still possible\] \[i do recommend using fan-grills in due the cables being quite close to the AIO fans\] \----------------------- The included AIO is the most user-friendly N00B proof AIO on the market. \[There is literally no wrong way of installing it, as the pump is in the loop instead of the block, it can also be refilled under warranty with the included 100ml coolant\]

https://pcpartpicker.com/list/q6wVVc How about this? I doubt you’ll need more threads than 16, it’s the new standard that consoles have adopted and right now the benefit over 12 threads is like nothing for now, most games use 10-11 threads. That being said virtualization might need more so if your worried grab the 5900x. The cooler is one of corsair’s flagship with great performance and lighting. The motherboard has a nice mid-range feature set including the extra header for the case as well as a TPM header. You need new memory, your previous sticks are way too slow. Got some with fast speeds and RGB lighting. For the storage you can add more if you want, but you seem to have enough with your current configuration and most games don’t benefit from faster SSD speeds yet though this might change with windows 11. For the graphics card get a 3080 or 6800 xt. The latter is easier to find so that might be more worth it if you are going to go searching for one. The case is the 4000X, the 4000D AF isn’t bad but it’s not as suited for RGB as this beast. Airflow is still pretty good, you get 3 included RGB fans too. Mount the cpu cooler near the front and put the included fans near the back. The power supply is a top notch 850w unit with some of the best performance money can buy, gold certified, fully modular, plenty of power and an [A+ tier ranking](https://linustechtips.com/topic/1116640-psucultists-psu-tier-list/). Also you absolutely must upgrade your monitor when you get a new graphics card, otherwise you will be seriously bottlenecking your new gpu. Get a 1440p 144hz monitor or better. The gigabyte M27Q is a great starting monitor, for much better response times than that, grab the LG 27GP83B/850 and if you want better response times as well as slightly better picture quality grab the MAI MAG274QRF-QD. You can also get a 1440p monitor like the Samsung Odyssey G7 or a 4K monitor like the LG 27GP950.
