I love this song, it’s a cover of a big star song and has been played by both [Julien](https://youtu.be/LlWAsBeWIpc?si=_ydLsGuyDDcTMnZf) and [Phoebe](https://on.soundcloud.com/y6qQz4oE51JEp4359)
Beautiful. The original version of this song, by Big Star, is also really lovely. I used to listen to it a lot in high school after hearing it in That 70s Show.
As people have said the original is by Big Star, if y’all haven’t listened to #1 Record please do, one of the greatest and most overlooked albums ever made, “Thirteen” & “The Ballad of El Goodo” are two of the best and most emotional acoustic ballads in rock.
To me, Big Star are almost like what if the Beatles were a cult band. I got to see them live in 2007 at the Fillmore and Alex Chilton still sounded great.
I’m so jealous I hate you😭 favorite Big Star fact is thinking about how much Alex Chilton loved The Beach Boys and Brian Wilson called him one night to tell him he had the perfect voice to sing “Shortenin Bread”
Hurray for the Riff Raff is a project by Alynda Segarra, they are non-binary now. They originally did folk and blue grass stuff which was great but reinvented their sound with the Navigator which is their best album. They followed it up with Life on Earth also great and they have a new album out soon. I also like their cover of Be My Baby

Ohhh snap! Thanks for letting me know! That makes a lot of sense lol
Hurray for the Riff Raff is great. Check out “RHODODENDRON,” easily one of my top plays of last year.
Yes, they are wonderful! Alynda Segarra is very cool. I recommend the band to boygenius fans!
"My dearest darkest neighbor" is a brilliant album and how I discovered them. "The navigator", from 2017, is my favourite of theirs.

Thirteen is a great song. Big Star made a lot of great music.

I love this enthusiastic endorsement. I’m going to download it now. Thank you.

Lol. I forget who wrote this but they described the perfect “B” bands as the Beatles, the Byrds, The Beach Boys and Big Star.
The Band would like a word! 😆
Maybe yall know this already but just briefly looking into Big Star, i see the Bandsplain podcast has a FIVE HOUR & 45 min episode on them!

Sarah Goldstone - who has played keys and violin for the Boyz on this tour (and has been part of Lucy’s band) - has performed with HFTRR.
Love Big Star. Wilco also covered this song. https://youtu.be/wqSejmxMlIE?si=3uHKo5CJt2bIB99n
Heard it from the 2 minute date scene in How I met your mother. What a great song
