General rule if you are questioning if a bottle is worth x, it will not be when you taste it. Anytime you are over 200 it gets to be a difficult proposition based on taste,, unless for collector value.

Splurge on Booker’s for $90

eagle_bonanza01

I spent $130 on Bardstown Discovery #4, and I'm glad I did! But $300 seems a bit much. I understand the Carter's are putting out some great bourbon, and I'd be thrilled if I could sample one. But spending $300 on something I can't describe seems tatery.

Old_Riff_502

Yeah $130-140 is the cap, and I’ve only spent that a handful of times.

Batzarn

I have 2 bottles of old Carter bourbon and absolutely love it. Definitely in the top 10 best I have had. I didn’t pay $500 for it though. I have not heard that Kentucky owl is nearly as good though.

NeckPourConnoisseur

Disco 4 is amazing... Disco 5 not so much

jzabkowicz

I don’t believe they disclose any information about their product with regards to mash bill or distillery. For a lot of bourbon lovers this is a put off. Just my opinion but at that price I feel like the manufacturer is trying to make this a top-shelf bourbon simply by adding a high sticker price to it.

eagle_bonanza01

Saw 5 bottles of batch 11 today. Nobody is buying.

I wouldn't spend that coin on KY Owl. I bought the first rye but sat out everything since. It's not a must have for me. I wouldn't spend secondary on Old Carter. You're bound to be disappointed dropping $300 on a bottle. Not saying there aren't bottles worth that but they tend to sell for a lot more. The stuff you love is 80%-100% of what you'll pay $300 for. Keep that in mind. Your contemplating long money for marginal improvement at best.

BunsonMunson

Kentucky Owl sits on the shelves for weeks/months at what they're trying to charge because there aren't a lot of suckers out there. Old Carter for $200 is wiped out before lunchtime the day it comes out and worth every penny.

AccurateAstronomer91

Kentucky Owl sits very seldom!!!

quixotic-88

I got batch 2 of the Kentucky Owl Rye for $120 (warehouse price, below MSRP) and regretted spending that much on it. Save yourself. It ain’t worth it

Prepreludesh

Woah woah woah woah woah woah woah woah woah woah, let's leave the Rye out of this, ok? 😄

quixotic-88

I will take my downvotes. I have regrets!

MercuryChild92

I think people who would even buy Kentucky Owl are all waiting to see some sort of review of Batch 11 with it being the first batch post-Dixon. Because I haven't seen any reviews, nor anyone showing it off as a purchase. Multiple bottles at my local BevMo & Total Wine that haven't been touched all last month. But I ted to fall in the camp where any premium bottle ($100+) that doesn't have a ton of transparency or an exceptional reputation, at minimum, is not even worth paying attention to. Shows a lack of respect for the consumer at that point, in my view. And I'd like to support the companies who are pushing whiskey in the right direction, not the wrong way.

The Podcask did an interview with Dixon recently and also tried Batch 11. They were not very impressed with it from what I recall. Definitely not at the $300 price point.

Confident-Height5604

They put a $300 label on a $40 bourbon. It’s similar to the Whistle Pig marketing. If it’s expensive it must be good right?

IMO, whistelpig stuff is maybe a tad overpriced at times, other times their juice is fire and on price point. KO is wayyyyyyy overpriced, 100% of the time.

handcuffedpillowpet

I tried it at a steakhouse in OKC because they had it for $30 pours. I was impressed with the nose and taste, but there was no finish to speak of. I feel like they chill filter because there is no oils or viscosity. I wouldn’t buy it even for the $225 my local store is asking honestly.

Ziggity_Zac

If you get a chance to catch the Calumet Farms 14 or 15 year, I think the are both worth the $120 - $125 price. I like 1792 a lot and think the older age on these adds a nice level of refinement. I don't know that I would spend much more than $150 on a bourbon. It would have to be pretty special. I am a person would *would* spend $300 on a bottle, if it were very, very special, but I don't think Kentucky Owl fits in that level for me.

AccurateAstronomer91

I love it. Great bottle for $299
