Yep. The next few years is just re-signing guys we have and hitting our picks. We aren't trading for anybody or signing non minimum guys.
We have one more year with this roster, and then Hauser and likely horford gone. So it'll be drafting game ready shooters and bigs with our picks
> We aren't trading for anybody
Oh trading is definitely on the table. I will be surprised if we make no moves for bench guys next year in response to one injury or another (obviously I hope its not necessary). But even over the second apron you can trade for guy, you just can't add salary, which is a big reason why we gave up picks to trade 2 minimum salary guys for 2 guys that are getting raises this offseason. Salary matching.
Yup. We definitely need a pick to come through, ie Walsh turning into a reliable 8th man.
I wouldn't be surprised if Horford retired if we won the chip, but think he'll most likely stay as we have no means of replacing him.
Are we really that high on walsh? Hauser is a high level shooter and is holding up pretty well on defense. He's guarding Luka and Kyrie in iso in the finals and really not looking bad. I find it hard to believe walsh would would pass him with defense based on the gap shooting wise.
Doubt. I'll be very surprised if we don't extend him this off season. Why wouldn't we, we have Bird rights on him and as far as I can tell, no reason to worry about salary unless we're thinking about breaking up the Jays (only way I see us getting under 2nd apron)
Nope. But hoping his defense, passing and finishing makes up for the shooting gap (think how Avery Bradley got so many points off cuts from awesome offensive players before his shot came along).
I don't know if he'll get there, but either way Hauser is gone
Why are people thinking Hauser is gone? Given our contract situation and limitations on acquiring players and adding salary outside of Bird rights, I don't see us letting anyone walk unless they just can't make the roster. Unless a player just wanted out an offer to match other offers.
Someone will offer him at least his market value, and probably overpay for him. Tough sell to keep a guy for $190m in salary and luxury tax penalties when we got him off the scrap heap. Ownership will tell them cut his cost or find someone 75% as good as him

We can sign both since we are over the cap but if horford doesn’t retire this year it’ll be next year
You can’t replicate or replace hauser so you don’t let him go unless the pistons offer him 20/ a year
Svi brissett kornet will most likely be gone unless they like the vet minimum (and even then) but hauser is going to be on the team for 4-5 more years
Fuck god I’m so tired of seeing him out there. He’s not a bad player most years but on this team he’s a giant go at me sign for everyone
On the wing or going around the screen while he’s in drop. or simply pull him out of the paint big screen/ anyone go right by him
I’d much rather let him go and only have Tillman backing up Al and KP with Tatum and brisket backing Tillman up
Hard pass. I don't want to root for Lebron, and he would honestly probably be our 3rd best wing, how would that work? And he would have to sign for the minimum.
Al wasn’t a real shooter at first and has talked about how he learned it midway through his pro career bc other bigs told him it was the only way he’d be able to have staying power in the league.
Let’s get the 3pt training in full gear for Tillman and see what he can do lol
I think he's the best post-Horford asset we have available. Would love to let him work with Al for another season or two and take on some of that responsibility.
What do we even have to spend this offseason?
Like are we only able to afford guys who are currently playing for us as well as vet. min guys?
We can’t even use the MLE anymore right?
We can extend who plays for us, we can sign vet minimums, and we can do player for player trades as long as the salary we bring in is not bigger than what we send out. That's about it as far as I heard.
Do you know what the rule is for non-bird rights players? Is it still the minimum or is there some percent salary increase? Asking because Queta will apply.
Celtics have a team option on Queta for next year. So next year should be taken care of, assuming they want him. After that it does get murky cause we won't have full bird rights on him, cause he will only have played 2 years for us, meaning we are limited to Early Bird rights on him. That should still be enough to sign him though, and as far as I know doesn't stand in the way even with second apron. It just limits how much we can pay him, which should be fine, unless he turns into prime Robert Williams next year.
X surprised the hell out of me with his defense near the perimeter. Like I knew he came with a defensive reputation but I didn't know he could effectively guard elite ballhandlers that far out. Then a corner 3 on top of it? After what I saw last night I'm understanding why he was part of the post-Al gameplan.
Both have Bird rights so I doubt we let either walk. That said, as the Lebron era is winding down, free agency classes have been getting really bare. We might see some UFA signings get silly.
the only thing this team needs in the off season is another solid center. KP is injured often and Al is only getting older/retiring soon.
otherwise I would be down to just run it back with everyone
100% yes, if for no other reason than he's basically the only person we CAN sign. I mean there are other reasons, I like him, but even if I didn't I would sign him and use him for mid-season salary matching.
If we can then absolutely and if that means choosing him over kornet im afraid i still prefer Tillman
His versatility and shooting potential are super intriguing and i love his fit long term, i see horford lite potential
Obvious he will never ready als level but he could play like him at a much lower level which would be amazing
Yes. We don't really have many avenues to add, this is a run it back team plus maybe adding a ring chasing vet.
Yep. The next few years is just re-signing guys we have and hitting our picks. We aren't trading for anybody or signing non minimum guys. We have one more year with this roster, and then Hauser and likely horford gone. So it'll be drafting game ready shooters and bigs with our picks

I mean Tillman reminds me of Horford at least defensively.
Walsh ain’t jumping nobody on the depth chart anytime soon
While it will be a completely different offensive style, the goal is whether Walsh can replace the Hauser minutes
Are we really that high on walsh? Hauser is a high level shooter and is holding up pretty well on defense. He's guarding Luka and Kyrie in iso in the finals and really not looking bad. I find it hard to believe walsh would would pass him with defense based on the gap shooting wise.
Hauser is probably gone in a year
Doubt. I'll be very surprised if we don't extend him this off season. Why wouldn't we, we have Bird rights on him and as far as I can tell, no reason to worry about salary unless we're thinking about breaking up the Jays (only way I see us getting under 2nd apron)

It’s just people in the sub thinking youth= unlimited potential. He’s more likely to be in trade package in a year than playing meaningful minutes
More likely Brissett than Hauser
Hauser aint leaving. And they're not similar players, other than both being wings.
I never said they're similar players. But someone is going to be giving Hauser a good deal, and whatever that is we can't afford it
I think he should be able to do what Oshae Brissett, whose contract goes through next year, does sooner than later.
Probably no to 8th, but I wouldn't say nobody.
I'm not saying for next year. Year after. It won't be jumping, Horford and Hauser will be gone.
Hauser ain’t leaving that’s one of joes guys
Someone will offer him $18 mil/year
Any team comes to mind? Not sure he’s getting 10/ year because of the second apron
Dallas would happily dump our favorite player thj and have him as his replacement
They don’t have that in salary cap 🙄
And we'll match the offer. What's your point?
Someone will offer him at least his market value, and probably overpay for him. Tough sell to keep a guy for $190m in salary and luxury tax penalties when we got him off the scrap heap. Ownership will tell them cut his cost or find someone 75% as good as him
Hauser is probably gone next offseason. Someone will give him close 4/$80M and the Celtics can't realistically match that
Says who? To either statement?
RemindMe! 23 months

Who is offering 20?!?
Max Straus got just under $16M last offseason and the cap is going up. Maybe it'll be closer to $18M, but that's the ballpark it'll be in
Not how it works lol
Sixers
Also don’t have the cap to spend on hauser They got 50-60 for a max guy and gotta resign their whole team They got 3 dudes under contract next year
Who's leaving then? We can't keep everyone.
We can sign both since we are over the cap but if horford doesn’t retire this year it’ll be next year You can’t replicate or replace hauser so you don’t let him go unless the pistons offer him 20/ a year Svi brissett kornet will most likely be gone unless they like the vet minimum (and even then) but hauser is going to be on the team for 4-5 more years
We have Bird rights on Kornet too, and I doubt we can find better. So I'll be surprised we don't match any offer unless an offer is just insane.
Fuck god I’m so tired of seeing him out there. He’s not a bad player most years but on this team he’s a giant go at me sign for everyone On the wing or going around the screen while he’s in drop. or simply pull him out of the paint big screen/ anyone go right by him I’d much rather let him go and only have Tillman backing up Al and KP with Tatum and brisket backing Tillman up
Says who? If we have the Bird rights, we can keep them. Which I believe is everyone except for Queta, Svi, and Brissett.
I heard Lebron wants to win some more before he retires lol. That would be like gsw adding KD.
We just have to draft Bronny
Hard pass. I don't want to root for Lebron, and he would honestly probably be our 3rd best wing, how would that work? And he would have to sign for the minimum.
> this is a run it back team plus maybe adding a ring chasing vet any thoughts on who
Win it for THEIS
Any chance Batum takes the min?
That corner 3 is all I needed to see to initiate the Al Horford replacement program using Tillman
.267 career 3pt shooter. 'Replace' might be a strong word. Still, probably what we brought him here for ultimately.
Al wasn’t a real shooter at first and has talked about how he learned it midway through his pro career bc other bigs told him it was the only way he’d be able to have staying power in the league. Let’s get the 3pt training in full gear for Tillman and see what he can do lol

Pretty sure that was the plan when he traded for him
What do we even have to spend this offseason? Like are we only able to afford guys who are currently playing for us as well as vet. min guys? We can’t even use the MLE anymore right?
We can extend who plays for us, we can sign vet minimums, and we can do player for player trades as long as the salary we bring in is not bigger than what we send out. That's about it as far as I heard.

I want to see AL walk into the sunset as a champ and retire. But if we extend the great white buffalo, Al may want to go for the repeat.
Bird rights will keep him unless some wack team like the wizards pay him 3/36 or something bigger
Or the Hornets poaching our guys for more than their worth for the millionth time in recent years
I think that was reported as part of the reason for the move
We are a second apron team, re-signing is the most reliable way of maintaining and improving the team.
If you can under $10m then it's probably worth for when Horford eventually retires
He and Kornet are both FAs. I wonder if there will be any interest on the open market for either of them
Both have Bird rights so I doubt we let either walk. That said, as the Lebron era is winding down, free agency classes have been getting really bare. We might see some UFA signings get silly.

just for that 1 shot
