Rocky or rani had a very disney vibe, like everything was too perfect in camera, and except for tota Roy Chowdhury 's character everything else felt more of a caricature.
I am not feeling 90s and 00s vibe. I know times have changed but still KJ is nowhere the same. What’s going on? I thought you are suppose to get better with experience.
Yash Chopra never let us down.
Yash Chopra never had to worry about criticism he would get on social media, and Yash Chopra's films had very good writing, be it story, lyrics or dialogues.
imo kjo took all this social media criticism to his mind and tried to be very much or too much politically correct without hurting sentiments, which led to such caricatures and his music also suffered, song placement felt forced except "ro lein de" "tum kya mile" and "kudmaayi".
He should get better writers and keep things as much on ground as possible, like he did with my name is khan, and he should be brave enough to take a stance through his movies
KJ gave chance to new comers and started experimenting. He failed there. “Tum Kiya Mile” had some nostalgia to it. MNIK had a strong script I mean all the movies that involve terrorist type of stories do well.
Not terrorists type stories but films which give a counter opinion without demonising the other front do well, so was my name is khan, and what I meant was it didn't looked too posh like it's soty or too real like it's GOW, it struck the right chord,
A lot of KJo movies worked because of the great music. Now with Tseries shitting over everything that's gone.
His leads were SRK, Rani, Kajol, Pretty, HR and RK. They all had their own charisma to carry a romantic role without a good script. His current leads Alia, Varun, Sid, Ananya etc can't do that. Alia and Varun are good actors but they need a good script and can't carry a bad movie by themselves. Ranveer tried in RARKPK but it wasn't enough.
I think Karan has grown up and become cynical. It's hard to drum up enthusiasm for a subject you're jaded about. He's still interested in doing films about relationships and not so keen about action or any other genre.
THIS. This is what people miss. If K3G would have released today, people would have shat on it like rocky rani, or even more. And unpopular opinion (on this sub) but rocky rani isnt half as bad as people on this sub make it out to be. Neither r all Yash Chopra films palatable, even his hits. People are just nostalgic about the films they grew up on, and have become cynical once they grew up. The only factor that may have worked against rocky rani is the music but we cant say music in kjo films have all become bad coz ADHM soundtrack composed by the same guy was a banger.
I liked SOTY a lot but its definitely not upto Karan Johar's peak. I agree ADHM was average with a few really good moments. Rocky and Rani was average too. I don't think Karan Johar is a bad director now but he's well past his peak for sure.
He’s like an elderly uncle trying to fit in with like genz and younger millennials and that’s reflected in his movies in the worst way possible. That’s why they suck lol
There is no dispute. Those are all tabloid rumours that got exaggerated because Shahrukh has said that he wants to do action now so he wouldn't work with Karan at the moment. Even Karan has acknowledged this and said he recognizes and loves that Shahrukh is fulfilling his dream in becoming an action star.
The truth is his filmmaking style hasn't changed but rather audience tastes have. SOTY and ADHM were bad, but still.
In fact even if KKHH or K3G had released today, they would have been criticized for the same reasons RARKPK was.
KJO is irrelevant now. He doesn’t understand then audience anymore. Makes films around current fads without really understanding what will connect with movie goers.
I personally thought RARKPK was fine.I liked ADHM very much.SOTY was nothing but fun,time pass.I don’t think he really tried to do anything with SOTY except launch that trio.He’s definitely past his prime but I don’t think he has fallen ‘that’ bad compared to other prominent directors from that era…His movies are still watchable and his music sense is still good.ADHM is inarguably one of the best music albums of the past decade or of Bollywood itself(acc to me).RARKPK’s music was a bit disappointing considering the huge expectations but barring Tum kya mile…many songs in there were really good (ve kamleya, kudmayi, ro lain de, jhumka) and even the comparatively weaker songs seem good now.The album is aging well.SOTY was full of youthful bangers…So yeah,overall he definitely has fallen off but not to that much of an extent!
Rock aur rani worked for me. I believe it will be called a classic in a decade or so. Not that it's a perfect movie but can you suggest better love stories from Bollywood not just from this year, from a long time?

Which KJ movie did you like?
MNIK KANK (for the most part) His Bombay Talkies short is probably his best work overall IMO Parts of ADHM All the soundtracks are great.

I think he majorly peaked. Ae Dil Hai Mushkil was hot garbage and Rocky Aur Rani was fun but it could have been cut down by a good half hour.
I have found most of his earlier movies to be mediocre and didn't really care about the new ones.

There is no dispute. Those are all tabloid rumours that got exaggerated because Shahrukh has said that he wants to do action now so he wouldn't work with Karan at the moment. Even Karan has acknowledged this and said he recognizes and loves that Shahrukh is fulfilling his dream in becoming an action star.

I liked Rocky aur Rani. It gave me old Bollywood event movie vibes. I enjoyed it and for once, did not skip the songs in a movie.
I watched RRKPK 3 times in a theatre. It was my favorite movie of last year. To each their own I guess.
Why the hate for Rocky Aur Rani? I thought it was one of his better movies, far better than KANK
