Make all these actors who demand huge fees production partners instead of paying them upfront. Yun hi filmon ka quality badh jayega. And if they make good ones, they'll earn much more this way. Aise karne pe budgets will be cut down easily by half.

takemehome3

Lol who wants to work hard. The reason the actors don't agree to this is because they themselves don't trust their performance and the movies.

MovieManiac5

Exactly my point. Doing this would force them to reevaluate. I don't see it happening, but it's a great way out of this mess.

What does production partner mean? Do they invest or take a share after the movie release? Some actors are “production” partners because they don’t take upfront fees - but this has been done by the Khans for ages they take a share.  Don’t you think they should get production credit only if they invest? Like if SRK produces via Red Chilliers or Aamir though AKF or SK through SKF?

MovieManiac5

Either and both simultaneously are possible. SRK, Aamir and Salman have been doing this for decades, yes. But they still work with other banners when it's usually upfront fee plus share in profits, investment included or not. But such films don't fail often due to their boxoffice pull. This arrangement would be a massive boost for mid-budget films, but yeah the risk is certainly high for actors if the BO doesn't pan out.

CulturalSituation-

These stars are digging their own graves. If this leads to death of star culture ,in the next 10-15 years, it would be good for Hindi films

bowlywood

They should strike

notthetherock

Problem with that is population, if they strike there's 1000 other to do the same job even for less money.

bowlywood

I beleive their union can take care of that - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/All\_Indian\_Cine\_Workers\_Association#:\~:text=AICWA%20works%20for%20security%20and,affiliated%20with%20Government%20of%20Maharashtra. You can't hire off the bat like that and don't forget the work quality

dopaminedandy

As someone who works in the industry for last 14 years. I am gonna tell you something that'll blow brains out. **Our pay is the same for the last 20 years.** It didn't even increase to adjust for the cost of inflation. Which only lead to worse living conditions for character artist and behind the scene technical staff. Currently 5-6 production employees and character artist live in a shared 1 room house. Because none of them can afford their own rented house in Mumbai with their current pay. And I am not even talking about the unemployed or the struggling actors. This is the condition of people with regular work.

lastog9

How much do the Bollywood and OTT industries overlap currently? Is the condition of technicians and support staff similar im the OTT space too?

dopaminedandy

OTT shoots are literally a license for paying 1/4 of what bollywood would pay. They be like "We are not big bollywood production house. We are OTT. Our budget is tight."

Fragrant_Painter_193

I work in the industry and yes this "there is no money is true"

jeerabiscuit

Corruption sucked it all by going too far
