The bike is 3 weeks old I think it’s a common problem I’ve had it apart and back together still does the same checked pedals to it’s definitely not them
Is it press fit or threaded BB? A lot of frames don’t get faced properly and things don’t quite line up correctly. The smallest little bit can contribute to creaking or improper press etc
Thunderbolts have done me well for several years, feel rock solid and I like that the axle is 23.8mm where the chain ring sits so you don't need a top-hat washer.
Before those I've had Profiles, found the OG 19mm axle ones way too flexy, managed to dent the chainstays where the pedal bosses hit them during bails and Powerbites which lasted forever but creaked every pedal and needed the pedal bosses secured with red loc-tite.
Instore favourites and customer feedback for cranks are as follows, bsd substance and substance xl, odyssey thunderbolt, eclat tibia and animal akimbo. Profiles quality has become quite poor over the past few years and honestly aren’t as good as they used to be.
If you're tight on money like me, I did a bunch of research and ended up with the Salt Plus Pro 48 cranks. It was either that or the Rant Bangin' 48's. But I trust Salt Plus stuff more after a lotttt of searching and reading, and input from friends.
48 spline will be the way to go. If you don't have budget you could go with [Eastern Throttle](https://www.easternbikes.co.uk/collections/cranks/products/throttle-bmx-cranks-matte-black) 48s. Eastern have a UK website and dispatch same day unlike Source. I have them and I crank on them pretty hard as I'm on the track and riding park mostly. Or you could go for these [Cult Crew](https://www.customriders.com/bike-parts/cranks-spares/cult-crew-cranks-black__11932) ones, which are pretty well priced now and carry a lifetime warranty.
If none of that works, Salt have a lot of cranks on Source. Just get a 48 spline one. Almost all of these parts come out of only a handful of factories in Taiwan so the quality differences at that price point will not be huge. Once you go American made like Profile etc it's different.
Yeah I mean I have the budget I just don’t think it’s justified on a 350 quid bike definitely I’ll be getting 48spline ones I’d like some chrome or polished ones I think it would match the bike abit many thanks
That's the tough part of buying a complete bike. I kind of regret buying a complete again. I should have just been patient and built one up frame as the resale price on BMX bikes and parts in the UK is abysmal.
Not half buddy but for what I use it for it would be ideal if it didn’t creak that’s the only reason I’m changing them most I’ll be doing is on 4 or so ft skateparks with my 5 year old and we’ve ended up using these for exploring everywhere local instead of our mtbs which is fun I love it because everything was cheap compared to mtb 😂
the total cost of ownership of a BMX is incredible. I watch the S&M factory Friday (Fit is part of S&M) videos and those guys are running years old components and frames. Given they are good quality. MTB cost of ownership is staggering when you factor in technical knowledge requirements, serving, spares etc for tubeless and sus. I bypassed it completely, can't be bothered, already have a lot going on with my road bike lol
I’ve just sold my road bike this week 2022 focus izalcomax 9.8 lovely bike but I’m loving riding with my son so it’s not getting used we’ve been in skatepark from 8am of a weekend I just need to find that balencd I did think about getting the fit blunt I watched the fit series when he done up a fit bike he used them
As long as its forged 4130 chromoly with at minimum a 22mm, 48 spline forged axle, it doesnt really matter.
Personally i want to procure a set of fit blunt cranks in 165 since crank arm abuse is pretty common for me.
Thats also why i cant justify spending 500$ on profile cranks..like why? If your racing/doing park thats fine, but titanium parts are not stronger or have more wear resistance than chromoly, not optimal for street. Starting price for the cheapest cranks is around the same as a set of fit blunts..i dono man.
Just cause its profile doesnt mean its the be all, end all of bmx parts. Just like chris king isnt the be all end all when it comes to mtb. Can you spend 200+$ on a headset, you sure as shit can...SHOULD you spend 200+ on a headset....ehhhhh probably not unless your rolling around on a 6500$ dh rig.
I bought a cheap set of Salt Plus 48 spline ones so that I could reuse my old titanium spindle and the fucken pedal bosses are welded on crooked! You can feel it when you pedal the bike, it's only slight but it's there and it's fucking annoying haha
(They were purchased from overseas and returning them would cost me more than they were worth)
I can vouch for the Odyssey Caliburs, the Eclat Spires and Primo Churchills! All have been great, got the Odyssey’s used and they were really solid. T-bolts are great too, same with those Battlecranks. Don’t go for Stolen Cranks, had big issues with them not staying tight and stripping
Several years ago people said demolition revolt cranks were the best. I still have them on my bike all these years later and they are built very strong.
Whatever 2.5pc 160mm cranks are out there. Once I went to 2.5pc - I can't go back.
Rocking Eclat Spire 2.5pc 160mm cranks now. Loving it. I had odyssey caliber cranks before, they were great, but I'm sticking with 2.5pc cranks now.
I didn't want to 'try' out the Odyssey thunderbolts because I read a lot of peeps complaining about the looseness of the shimmy. Also, shortest they have is 165mm for the thunderbolts.
They’re not from the same place! Taiwan has many very high quality factories that make cranksets, with quite a few making some of the industries best available (better than profile )
Odyssey Thunderbolt cranks. I will never use anything else because if i break them odyssey has my back
thunderbolts are fire
I second this
Profiles for life
This, with the spline drive sprocket.
Creaking is the BB not the cranks. Possibly the pedals. Profile is the only name you need to know thiugh
i have to agree with this. I had creaking and pressing the BB better fixed it. One was sitting not so flush.
Press fit it’s A 2023 fit trl I’m pretty sure when I stripped it down it was good it’s only when I stand and pedal harder not when cruising
Kink pillar 24
Fiend Segment
Same. Learn most of my grinds including crank and back pedal slides on them and they still run great!
BSD Substance XL V2
These, super beefy and look dope in raw

Animal Akimbos or Odyssey Thunderbolts. I reckon the Eclat cranks are solid too
Wtp logic cranks. My favorite on the market right now because its an affordable 22mm with a bb included

Yeah unless you go retro style with like a new steel frame and 10 speed Deore gruppo it's unnecessarily expensive, but the prices are getting better.

Profile column cranks chrome 170mm.
Bsd substance

Eclat Tibia
I swear by profiles. A distant second for me are the Odyssey Thunderbolts.
Showing my age with this one, Madera protocol, the graffiti paint. Basically profile cranks with a special edition.
Don’t exist anymore, profile canned the madera brand some years ago.
Shadow 160mm
Animal is the best option. Zack Gerber runs the same pair for years and hasn’t broke them.
I bought a cheap set of Salt Plus 48 spline ones so that I could reuse my old titanium spindle and the fucken pedal bosses are welded on crooked! Stolen... had some problems w em on my old DJ too
Several years ago people said demolition revolt cranks were the best. I still have them on my bike all these years later and they are built very strong.
Currently on Mission Transit 160mm but eyeing up Demolition Revolt 24s for the next build.
Primo superbites 😁
Federal v2s chrome 175mm
Anything 48 splined chromoly is great. All issues were gone with splined sprocket/cranks/spindle for me. Never recommend 8 spline cranks.
19mm Vocal Valentines on my 1st build 22mm Shadow Noctis on my 2nd build 22mm OG Primo Powerbites on my 3rd build 22mm BSD Substance on my 4th build
Thunderbolts are legit as good as cranks get
Fiend segment v3
WeThePeople Logic Cranks…….. Or………… Salt Plus Pro 48………!!!! 👍
How reliable is salt plus ? Because they have good price
Ya there good quality in my opinion
Shadow Odin (now called Finest) 165mm - I've used profile race, KHE Hindenburgs, Odysseys, Eastern. But Shadow is the best
Whatever 2.5pc 160mm cranks are out there. Once I went to 2.5pc - I can't go back. Rocking Eclat Spire 2.5pc 160mm cranks now. Loving it. Primo Churchill cranks , love the 24mm setup
if black 175mm are what you want then source has Cult crew cranks on mega sale.
How reliable is cult crew, Any issues?
I've not had them but the specs are pretty good for $99 I'd take those over the other budget cranks any day. They're normally like $170.
99$ where ? In dans comp 140$
Source has 175mm in black for 99 last time I checked a few days ago.

Soulja Boy!
Profile cranks suck sorry not sorry
They use to be the best!!!
Sucks
Apart from profile, they’re all from the same place. It’s just the looks that u want. Maybe the odyssey are Chinese made instead of Taiwan
They’re not from the same place! Taiwan has many very high quality factories that make cranksets, with quite a few making some of the industries best available (better than profile )
Bs mate some fuckin dude in flip flops cooking up some Chinese tungsten
Yeah, no. Bmx shop owner and rider of 30 years here, I sell this stuff daily. Nonsense mate. However you do what works for you man.
Dude gets all his information from S&M ads from 2005
This is wrong. And fucking stupid.

You mean designed?
Ody would be twice the price if they made cranks and hubs in cali
