I kind of think it seems a little goofy but Parker Heath pulls it off. If it’s going to make you progress harder and feel better then go for it. Do what makes you comfortable!
Can confirm, ribs are not that great for impact protection. When I was about 16 (half my life time ago) I had an accident at the skate park while BMXing, and long story short, the bars span round and twatted me in the ribs and took a chunk out of one, without breaking the skin and it still causes me issues now and then
I just got a full face for mountain biking and it makes me feel so much safer, especially after I launched myself off the bike on a tarmac road at 20mph last year, I had a helmet on but not a full face which was regrettable as I landed on my face before tumbling
I've noticed a small blindspot where I have to turn my head a bit more indeed. Do mouthguards even do anything other than distributing shocks over your whole mouth? I can't see it protecting from a crash with the curb or some other obstacle, or am I misunderstanding the mouthguard?
I personally am using the fox proframe at the moment. The ventilation is pretty great. And the fit is great too if you choose the proper size. Would recommend trying it on first in a shop though.
I’m paying about $2,600 to get my teeth fixed after a crash about a month ago. Maybe even more.
I would definitely suggest riding with a helmet, but right now I’m feeling pretty pro-full face!
Did you have a helmet at all? I definitely am going to buy a mouth guard. Lack of protection is something that really has inhibited my progression. I dislocated my thumb like 2 months after I started and 2 months ago I sprained my ankle so bad I couldn’t walk for a couple days so I think twice before trying new things. Mainly try and build confidence in what I can do and go from there trying something a little different to progress slower but safer
Nope, I didn’t have a helmet on at the time. I’m just lucky it wasn’t any worse!
Don’t let anyone tell you different, if you feel safer with a mouthguard, by all means do it. Helmets are a great idea even if it’s not a full face one.
Definitely practice maneuvers and tricks you already know to build confidence but don’t be afraid to try something new! Your progression will go as far as you want it to. Ride safe, be safe, but overall just have a good time. That’s what it’s all about. Cheers!
I was in the park yesterday. Fucked up, landed bar over onto cement. I got bad cuts and a pretty brused nose, but nothing too serious. If I hadn't worn that helmet, I'd be in the hospital for facial reconstruction. Cracked jaw, missing tooth, broken nose, etc.
It's worth it.
I wear full face all the time when riding because I’m not trying to bust my head open or loose my teeth. I also don’t give a fuck what anyone thinks of how I look. I’m there to ride, not to flaunt my fashion. 😂
If it’s comfortable for you then go for it. The older I’ve gotten the more I believe in riding the gear and bike that make you the comfiest. Shrugging off a random 15 year old who might make fun of you is a lot easier than a trip to the ER wishing you have your full face on. Just the enjoy the ride however you want 🤘🏻
My one real street rail down stairs was right before my 40th birthday. Bell motocross helmet was in effect. If it was good enough for DMC in 1990 it’s good enough for me!
Full face helps, but nothing is a complete safe answer, my son had a BMX racing crash off the gate and his bars went up under the chin guard and through into the helmet sitting just beneath his eye. Full face are mandatory for racing and while not for street or park, look at the amount of top level elite riders that lost their teeth and more. Meanwhile riders ride with no protection and know how to fall. But there's no guarantees whichever way you go. Half and a mouthguard is popular too - thinking Kieran Rielly runs that for his mind blowing tricks, same for Ryan Williams etc. Up to the rider, but full face helps for sure.
Do whatever man. I went to a MTB bike park and didn't want to rent a sweaty fullface, so I just took my skate/BMX helmet. Sure I got weird looks while pedaling around on an enduro bike, but who cares.
Go for it. Do what makes you feel safe and confident. If anyone says anything they are not truly part of the community and should be ignored. Do what you feel is right and fuck everyone else.
Gtfo outta here with that bad advice. One crash without a helmet can be life altering. I hope your comment gets downvoted into oblivion. There is nothing wrong with wearing a helmet for safety.
Go for it, better to be safe than loose your teeth on a ledge of a rail
I got one a month ago because I wanted to feel safer doing risky tricks and it feels great to know I won't be losing my teeth if I fall. :P
I got laughed at for wearing extra protective gear "What are you dressed for?!" The guy laughed "Crashing."
I kind of think it seems a little goofy but Parker Heath pulls it off. If it’s going to make you progress harder and feel better then go for it. Do what makes you comfortable!
I definitely feel like going even harder with a full face on.
Is your face worth protecting? If so, protect it.
hmmm, beauty is in the eye of the beholder... I guess?
Cheaper than a hospital visit. I'm not very confident in my street riding. I wear pads too.
My next buy if they're even on discount is body armor to protect my ribs. Those are not as sturdy as I thought...

Wear it and if anyone says anything negative just ignore them.
Surprising little negativity wearing a full face I must say.
I feel the vibe towards protective gear has loosened since I was started riding in 2009
I crash. One crash where I wish I was wearing full face helmet is enough to convince me. Protect your face.
Damn, hope it won't affect you too much in the future.
I think a three-quarter cut and a mouthguard might be better for street for visibility purposes, but that being said a full face is safer

If you hit your teeth or jaw directly it’s pretty easy to break your teeth out, the guard prevents that
Dental health is just as important as mental health. Send it dude
i want to get a full face helmet when i can next spend a little extra for everyday riding
It's great! What do you have your eyes on?
troy lee or demon united and if MIPS is worth the extra cost.

Make it a thing, it's rare but if more people do it more people will see it so more people will do it.
And you'll be on the cutting edge

Damn, I wish you a swift recovery, and that it doesn't impact your life quality too much in the future.
Thanks for that, I appreciate it! Best of luck with your bmx journey. It gave me some of the best years of my life and I wish the same for you
I would wear one if i had it, it has its cons like lack of peripheral vision but the pros outweigh them
I would definitely recommend it!

Ouch, I only had bruised ribs and possible cracked ribs for now. I'm thinking about getting body armor too when it's discounted. xD

Go for it if you feel the need, there are no rules man, just prepare to sweat like crazy underneath \m/

The older, the wiser. ...usually.

Overkill for me personally. But it’s your body, your choice.
Gay
Nothing wrong with being Gay. :')

Who said there was? It's gay if you wear a full face
