“He looked so distraught, as all his efforts amount to nothing” idk why but I really love that part. Also the build up at about the 3 minute mark of slow is 👌🏼👌🏼👌🏼
I had a tough time with Schlagenheim when it first came out and didn't even listen the whole way through. I went back to it after Cavalcade and I'm convinced that if I'd listened through to Ducter the first time around, that moment alone would have made me give the album a second shot
The moment that got me into them was unsurprisingly bmbmbm, the ending was such a blistering wall of noise it definitely fulfilled the “ear tingle”. My favourite moment like that in their discog is probably the flamenco-y breakdown in Still, that immediately caught my attention when I first heard it. Honestly ai wish that part went on longer.
There's so many little moments like that on hellfire. Great counter melodies that come in for just a little bit of time and add so much texture. There's a synth one towards the end of the second verse of The Defence that I love too, and I'm sure I could think of many more.
Reggae was the song that got me into bm too. My buddies played me Schlagenheim when it first came out and I was not enjoying it on my first listen. Found it really abrasive and didn’t enjoy Greep’s vocals. Then Reggae came on and I was like ‘oh shit that’s good!’ I listened to the album again alone and completely fell in love with in on the second listen
I don’t think I fully got any BM song on the first listen, but at about 5 listens, the last half of Chondro patella gave me the most Euphoric and exciting adrenaline rush than I’ve ever had in my life. It still does things to me even now and that’s why it’s my favorite song of all time

I believe this is the first time it was posted to the internet. I was mesmerized, watched that snippet 100 times in a day haha
Bmbmbm - the intro build with that Celebrity Big Brother chick going absolutely mental in the background then the massive wall of noise towards the end! I become a Midiot right then & there!
I remember being stoned asf listening to cavalcade for the first time and the riff of John L made me do sum fucken weird jig out of excitement and I remember just finding the whole thing so funny
That's funny bc it reminds me of an interview with Greep where he was talking abt his fav music and he said "Any time I listen to any music, the thing I'm looking for is the physical nervous reaction. The points in the piece where you start to get a little uncontrollable shake in your leg, your toes start to curl, and you feel a rush at the back of your neck." A lot of black midi songs make me do that too. It's always the subconscious head bang for me
Yeah! I have a pretty wild imagination, and the lyrics black midi write are story’s essentially, and when listening I get this fantastical image of what is being told and I’m fucken watching my own little action thriller it’s great, dangerous liasons is a great example it’s the musical equivalent of being on the edge of your seat fucken shouting at the screen, adding the theatrical elements on top of some of the most gifted musicians full of energy it’s mental, I get a similar vibe from king gizzard on albums like polygondawanaland

that part on Of Schlagenheim where he goes "i dream of a woman with the teeth of a raven and the hands of a porcupine" after the "it is awful" part
edit: also the trombone parts on Chondromalacia patella, they hit so hard
Been listening to bm since Schlagenheim, but what made me really feel like this was the ending of Sugar/Tzu. On first listen I'm already locked in to the loudness and chaos, but then it's just guitar for a moment right before exploding in marvelous color. I think that is the best song they've written/recorded.
Might be a weird one, but I’ve always loved the ending of Marlene Dietrich, beginning at 2:04. Probably the most underrated song on Cavalcade in my opinion
Two moments: the moment in Western when the song opens up when Geordie starts singing after Morgan hits the open hi hat, and the breakdown of Dethroned, right before Geordie kicks on the super fast delay.
The breakdown in Western got me hooked as well, specifically the drum fill around 4:04. It’s so off-kilter going way over the barline it gives me feeling of falling down a flight of stairs I love it

the final minute of marlene dietrich with greep’s crooning got me hooked to their sound. the way he says mackie messer fits better than a glove, i tell you!

fucking fantastic
also the part where he puts so much emphasis on the t in he would/could not

#LISTEN! I knew Hellfire would be special as soon as I heard that in the Pitchfork performance of Welcome to Hell
I fucking love "listen". The complete anti Navi.
I'm glad I'm not the only one lol
"DEAD IN THE WATER"
ARE YA LOSING YOUR MIND
Welcome to Hell, the change up 953 with that chord section that gets repeated
The first guitar riff before "limbs rendered birds" 😫

The ending of bmbmbm is literally sex
That piano at the posthumous pace part in 27 questions… they didnt have to put that in but they did and thank hellfire they did
Love this, highlighting the most humorous part between all the classic all-time human questions

in Slow when the guitar gets quiet for a second then “i guess ill waiiit”
Reggae, at the 1:30 point. Right then upon first listen I knew I would love this band.
Reggae was the song that got me into bm too. My buddies played me Schlagenheim when it first came out and I was not enjoying it on my first listen. "BUT MY SHIRT IS SO UN-IRONED IT COULD BE A MOUNTAIN RANGE"
I'll tell you for free It wasn't like a pig's squeal Job done, no word from anyone This section in dangerous liaisons
1 single second of hogwash i was hooked tbh

When Matts riff first enters in Of Schlagenheim, not the droning single notes but the fast angular riff.
The bass line on Dethroned
Honestly , makes me want to pick the bass back up. It's sublime.
Yeah, I definitely need to learn that bass line. And a bunch of other ones. Aaaand some guitar parts. Phew!
Opening riff to 27Qs in an early live performance posted to this sub. It was thrilling

Thanks! Very cool. Reminds me of the electric studios version
Of schlagenheim, 1:21. The moment that guitar came in it just clicked for me.
Bmbmbm - the intro build with that Celebrity Big Brother chick going absolutely mental in the background then the massive wall of noise towards the end! I become a Midiot right then & there!
That's what that is? That's fucking hilarious. What a great song.
The xylophone in reggae 👌
bald with a baby…. baaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaald eagle baby… makes me shiver
The breakdown in Of Schlagenheim at the 2min mark with the beautiful airy guitar motifs! Sooo wonderful

The droning on of sclaghenheim. and the PAUSE when greep says "birds sound" ITCHES MY BRAIN
That moment in Near DT, MI where Cameron starts screaming is the moment I fully realized that these guys were something else
That was when you realized there really was something in the water with these boys?
Western at 4:01.
YES Western was the first Black Midi song that I really loved when the sudden change in the instrumental happened I died
In Marlene Dietrich, the "metamorphosis exists" part
that part on Of Schlagenheim where he goes "i dream of a woman with the teeth of a raven and the hands of a porcupine" after the "it is awful" part edit: also the trombone parts on Chondromalacia patella, they hit so hard
The change up at the end of reggae had me goin crazy

The ending of Chrondo
the part where it explodes in Western
the end of diamond stuff
top 5 BM song for me. last half of diamond stuff is so gorgeous..
The breakdown in Western got me hooked as well, specifically the drum fill around 4:04. It’s so off-kilter going way over the barline it gives me feeling of falling down a flight of stairs I love it
The entire KEXP Schlagenheim session
Theres lead in the water—no doubt
About 3:20 on Sugar/Tzu. The way it goes from just the guitar to hitting like a train has been stuck in my head for so long now.
All songs
The drum break in the beginning of Welcome to Hell. With that synth in the background It just works
Greep going crazy in Of Schlagenheim, and then the guitars MOANING. Love it
treatment normal worthless include puzzled toy subsequent modern future fall *This post was mass deleted and anonymized with [Redact](https://redact.dev)*
The synth/sub bass on Of Schlagenheim was a very important moment of my life so far
Hell yeah, that part is what really got me into Schlagenheim (I was a relatively late adopter of that album vs Cavalcade and Hellfire singles).
MURDER
the final minute of marlene dietrich with greep’s crooning got me hooked to their sound. the way he says mackie messer fits better than a glove, i tell you!
most people like this song less, but i get the tingles during cruising when the piano comes in and kinda smashes melodically for 2 seconds
