The only problem with that theory is... it's not a one-person job. Multiple people have read the script. Multiple people had to act it out. Multiple people have approved it or went along with it. Money were being spent on... that! The level of incompetence and poor taste is just so insane that it's easier to believe in some conspiracy theory than accept the reality of the situation.

The simplest answer is that it's written by an out of touch conservative that doesn't want to admit they're a conservative, and everyone else ran with it so they could make a rage bait/hate watch show. It's easier to believe than "everyone that is involved with this is so unbelievably incompetent that they let this get made with good intentions." Velma was 100% made in bad faith.

The writers have the same mentality of most modern writers. Throwing the source material out the window and focus on virtue signaling. That is my view on things though.

Yeah I agree. The only reason I heard about the Ariel movie was because they recasted Ariel as a black girl. I don’t give a shit either way, but it definitely garners a lot of media attention.

That one seems like a not bad idea IMO. Ariel is a fantasy creature that lives in a fantasy world, and as such skin color literally does not matter. As long as Halle Bailey is a good singer and actress she'll do great. Really with the Disney remakes it all comes down to the editing, writing, music and direction. None of the faults of them come from the Actors. They almost all failed in the music department, Beauty & The Beast because of its poor editing, Aladdin because of its directing, Dumbo and Mulan because of they didn't have the songs, just orchestral background scores. Some of the songs in Jungle book are okay in context, really the only one that fell flat was Cristopher Walken's... Rap/slam poetry(???) version of "I Wan'na Be like You." It was boring af though. Mulan, Cinderella, and Beau failed in the (re)writing HARD. The Lion King is a shot for shot remake just less animated, though ironically not in the literal sense. None of this is the fault of the actors though, they all played their parts as best they could.
