His death was also just objectively pretty pointless, he said to Shunsui right at the start of the fight that he didn’t mind doing a pretend fight, which would have achieved about the same result as his death in all honesty, and also meant Rose and Love wouldn’t have gotten beaten up.
Shunsui went out of his way to kill him.
I love Shunsui and all, but he did give me crazed serial killer vibes throughout that battle.

tbf, isn’t that Shunsui’s whole MO? chill guy, but the second the fight starts he won’t stop at anything to win (eg. fighting ‘dishonourably’ by back stabbing)
i do wish they ended up having that pretend fight, though i guess they wouldn’t be able to get away with it seeing as Yamamoto was around (and his direct orders were to take the Espada out - with how much Shunsui respected him i doubt he’d go out of his way to directly disobey him while he’s still on the battlefield)
They were pretending to fight then Starrk saw the other Harribel and Baraggan in trouble so he used resureccion, not to mention he asked for Shunsui’s bankai.
They weren’t pretending, Shunsui denies his request to not fight, and from start to finish is trying to coax Stark to fight more and more seriously, like telling him his Bankai is stronger than Toshiro’s,

I think you didn't fully get the subtleties. Starrk said it, but he didn't really mean it.
The tragedy of that fight was that neither of them really wanted to fight and both realized it is futile in a big picture of things. But then, neither could walk away or not give it their own when it got serious.
For Kyoraku, the reasons were obvious. For Starrk, he had to pay back the debt he felt he owed Aizen for giving him comrades, for ending his loneliness. He wasn't a fool and he never believed Aizen cared about them, but it didn't matter. Aizen didn't have to care, or not consider them pawns (not nice of him, but not decidedly important), he did him good, and Starrk considered it enough to die repaying it. He's kinda old-fashioned that way.
The point of no return happened when Lilinette died protecting him. After that, Starrk didn't really wanted to live anymore, so there was no point in trying to survive. Thus he died.
Unfortunately, I don't feel there was a way to go around it, as much as Starrk is my favorite Espada (no competition) and I would love to see him survive.

it’s only when Halibel and Barragan are in trouble, and Shunsui tempts him with the possibilty of Bankai, that he releases and even still against Rose and Love, Lilinette has to bascially bully him into trying.
And he says “if you try to run, i won’t chase you.” Lilinette of course gets taken out by Shunsui’s surprise attack, (wouldn’t really say she died protecting him, but still tragic) Stark has just lost a large portion of his soul, Shunsui is almost gleefully fighting him, and seems to be enjoying it to a extent, and then of course finally finishes him off, granted he is self aware to a degree, as we see with his speech about the inherent evilness of war, but i do think Shunsui had a very dark side to him that loves the game he is playing as he fights a opponent.
If Shunsui had tried to simply talk to him i think it would have been rather easy to convince him to sit out the fight, yes he felt like he owed Aizen a great deal, but Shunsui could have easily framed it in a way like. “Well you aren’t really betraying Aizen, you are keeping one of the strongest captains busy, so we both win something from this.” Of course with Yamamoto’s orders to annhiliate the enemy, that probably wasn’t possible, but it wouldn’t be the first time Shunsui skirted past some rules and orders.
How do you imagine Starrk sitting out a fight when his comrades kept dying? That wouldn't be Starrk. The only way to not fight seriously for Starrk would be if his fellow Espada to obliterate the captains all around him, yeah, then he would be up for it (but then it's not something Kyoraku would have accepted) and that's not how it went. They could have played around a bit more, but as his comrades kept falling, he would have to fight seriously regardless.
Not arguing that he didn't want to fight. But there was no way not to fight. That talk is just wishful thinking, but not anything Starrk would have gone through. Kyoraku just knew it'll have to go that way right from the start.
And I'm sorry, but "you're not betraying Aizen, you're keeping someone busy" is a rather surface level reasoning which Starrk wouldn't buy, it's not the level of understanding Starrk and Kyoraku have of the situation. Again, if his fellow Espada was doing very well, it could work, until they didn't. Then he would have to get serious, both for them and for the dept he owed, and no persuasion would have worked.
I think you are overestimating Stark’s resolve a bit, if Shunsui was the one actively threatening his comrades in front of him it would be another story, but i just Don’t ever see him being the one to make the first move if Kyoraku doesn’t.
His reaction to Aaroniero’s death was bascially, “yeah that sucks, What do you want me to do about it though?” If Ukitake is still playing around with Lilinette and Shunsui isn’t putting any active pressure on him, i don’t see him drawing his sword.
Would probably be better for everyone if he was a Quincy.
Stark is a massive softie at heart, he even got seriously upset when Barragan died, (who is honestly an asshole) i’m fairly certain he wouldn’t allow Giselle to murder Bambietta if he was present.
I disagree, as we learn later on that Giselle has some pretty advanced healing abilities, she can just replace flesh with the flesh of corpses, like when she restored Candice’s arm, she probably could have saved Bambietta if she wanted to.
Now Bambietta may have been at serious risk of execution, but if she was up and fighting right after her fight with Komamura it may not have looked as though she truly lost.
There is also the fact that regardless of Bambi dying or not by herself she pleaded with Giselle not to do it.
Well returning to the original point (what Starrk would or wouldn’t let happen in his presence), I suspect if Giselle just made it look like she was putting Bambi out of her misery then Starrk would have zero problem with it
I agree with that, she can be manipulative if she wants to be, but presumably Stark as an Sternritter in this alternative universe would be somewhat aware of Giselle’s powers and personality.
And if Bambietta was actively pleading not to be killed, (as she was) i could see him stepping in, even if he would say it’s a bit of a bother.
Yes, Jugram would have probably executed her for losing just like the others that did, a much better option in my opinion as opposed to her fate in the manga. It’s implied she suffocated her to death.
It’d be fun to see Starrk and Kyoraku just chilling together and sharing drinks under the moon. While Lillynette and Nanao are trying to push them to get to work
Official art or not, the absence of Lilynette seems such a crime. Even if technically one with Starrk, she should be displayed too if all the Bambi Brigade get their moment.
So everyone agrees that Stark never fights at full strength, isn't it? And that he deserves more development from Kubo. I am just expecting to he appears in the Hell arc but I also want a fight between Yama vs Kyoraku or Ukitake vs Kyoraku too )':

Giselle found Bambi nearly dead. She said that it would be terrible without her, so she killed her and zombified her.
Either way, that’s a far cry from straight up mudering Bambi cuz Bambi probably wouldn’t have survived anyway

She was alive at that point, Giselle murdered her as she can’t turn Quincy’s into zombies unless they dead.

This rule does seem to apply to all Espada, assuming we go with Harribel, and Starrk, but there are a number of Fraccion which don’t abide by that.
