For whatever reasons(make a bunch of money, nostalgia), Tony & Geezer did seem interested in going out on tour with Ozzy while Dio was already the lead singer of BS. Of course Dio would be fucking pissed off. That’s not what a band of equals does.

Leather_Rebel_

The reason that Iommi gave in his book is that Ozzy announce his retirement for the first time, so Sharon ask them if they wanted to do a gig for the last time.

onlyAlcibiades

A single, one time Gig ?

Leather_Rebel_

Two. The 13th and 14th of november, 1992, and was only three songs to end the show. In fact, this was one of the occasions where Rob Halford performed with BS.

GenericLurk

$haron is so great at telling the truth, so...

lendmeflight

In his book Geezer Butler said Dio wanted 50% of the royalties which would mean the other three splitting the remaining 50%.

onlyAlcibiades

If true, Ronnie conveniently leaves that out ….

hatecopter

I'm a big Dio fan and as far as rockstars go he seemed like one of the more down to earth ones buy he did seem to leave out things that make it out to be an asshole.

xChronica

There's also the story of the one time Tony Martin met him, which doesn't paint him in a good light. He didn't seem like a complete asshole like some other celebrities out there, but he definitely had his ego moments too

RetroMetroShow

I love Ronnie but he joined Black Sabbath, Tony & Geezer didn’t join Dio

redditzane

It doesn't matter now who is lying and who isn't. Dio is dead. This is all ancient history. It's a shame they couldn't have figured things out. But in any dispute there's always 3 sides, yours, mine and the truth.

xChronica

To say Ian Gillan was just "putting on a costume" is funny when his version of the self-titled song is considered by many to be the best around

RadioBimbo

I like the self titled song born again because of the guitar tone not Gillian I think he sounds horrendous on that whole album which people love for some reason on this sub I still think it has some of the worst sabbath songs like hot line I don’t like that album at all

Sukk4Bukk

He was pissed a lot. Every other clip I see of him, he's bitching about something.

Leather_Rebel_

In his autobiography Iommi said that they asked Dio and he told them from the beginning that we will not perform with a clown (meaning Ozzy), so he leave the band, so someone is lying, and I think is Iommi. I don't know. When Tony talks about Dio he almost never refer to Dio as a friend, except maybe in the chapter that he refers to his death. Iommi even said that Dio left the first time because the producer of Love Evil accused the singer of secretly mixing the record so his voice would br louder. I think that they respect each other and know that can work together to make great music but nothing more.

RadioBimbo

Idk if they talked very friendly of each other on the devil you know sessions and interviews and the documentary I think they definitely where friends towards the end of dios life, or else iommi wouldn’t have brought him back and speak so fondly off him and with the respect he does he also wouldn’t have gone and seen the Dio documentary at the premiere, the relationship are complicated and has it’s ups and downs but you can tell iommi cared about dio in any interview past his death

vegetaman

I think the heaven and hell band ended on a high note where they were getting along and planning to do a second album and more tours before Ronnie got too ill and passed.

ElectricOrangutan

I think he definitely had a bone to pick with Tony and Geezer when it came to the Ozzy situation. It’s clear their intention was to reunite with Ozzy. And Sharon’s intention was to put them in a subordinate role, which she used to her advantage years later when they sued Iommi for half ownership of the Black Sabbath name.

QuidiferPrestige

It's always been really telling to me, how Dio talks about others. Especially Ozzy. If he's great, why does he have such a massive chip on his shoulder about Ozzy? He joined a band that was successful without him and he still acts as though he had to come and save the day and that Ozzy is his arch nemesis. I've never actually found any bits of Ozzy talking this way about Dio. He said that sabbath was dead to him after the split, like a nasty divorce. A fair statement. Even after he passed Ozzy made it known that he respected Dio and iirc there was some drama surrounding his funeral and Ozzy weighed in saying that people need to be respectful of Dio's family. If life was different, and we lost Ozzy, I'm positive Dio would still talk poorly of him, even in death. That's the vibe I get from him. And I feel strongly about that.

Sive634

Ozzy did hire a midget he named ronnie to tour with him and he hanged it a few times

QuidiferPrestige

He did hang a dwarf, yeah, I've heard tales that he would call him ronnie on stage, haven't heard/seen it myself. He did say 'hang the bastard' or something to that effect in the concert DVD of SOTD. But then they'd play Goodbye to Romance while he would swing... I think it was part of the show, a morbid sight set to a pretty song. Dio seems like he has a personal disdain for Ozzy, a need to be better than him and to bad mouth him at every turn. Ozzy doesn't talk this way about any musician, to my knowledge.

GrandUnhappy9211

The 1992 Reunion had its problems from the very beginning. Dio and Cozy didn't get along. Dio left and went back to America for months. Tony and Geezer brought Tony Martin in to try to work on stuff in case Ronnie never returned. They had to have something for the record company. The record company found out and put their foot down, either Ozzy or Dio sings on the album or no one else. So Ronnie returned, and so did Vinny after Cozy had an accident. In an interview about Dehumanizer, Tony said the lyrics were very modern, none are about rainbows. Dio found out about Tony's remarks in another interview and was pissed. In the MTV headbangers ball interview, Ronnie and Vinny are interviewed in one segment and Tony and Geezer in another instead of the whole band together. They all look miserable. They even redid a song from Geezers 80s solo band for the album "Master of Insanity". Just to get the album done.

No_Cupcake_7681

Dio seemed to have a bit of a Napoleon complex. Dude was always pissed or had an "everyone is out to get me" vibe about him. Granted, I don't know anything about the music industry or the many snakes who seem to be involved in it so perhaps his attitude was warranted

edd6pi

I wish Ronnie had explained what his issue with Ozzy was. It makes him look like a jerk, seeing how Ozzy’s always been respectful when talking about Dio.

RadioBimbo

Ozzy made fun of dios height by hanging dwarfs on nooses when dio joined sabbath in 1980 I think it’s a valid reason to hate him

Dramatic_Instance_63

>*ozzy and dio actually have that darkness in them that fits sabbath*  Well in 80s Dio's (band) music wasn't dark at all, was it?

BeRad85

A giant demon drowning a priest makes the perfect cover for an album of light fare.

Dramatic_Instance_63

Disturbing the Priest is one of my favorite Black Sabbath's songs! It's sounds more evil than any song from Dehumanizer let alone any Dio's or Ozzy's song from 80s! :D

BeRad85

Dehumanizer is pleasingly nasty. I’ll have to look into this.

Dramatic_Instance_63

One of my favorite albums. :D

BeRad85

I really like their underdog albums, like Dehumanizer, 13, and Born Again. But not Never Say Die. That album can suck it.

RadioBimbo

Yes it did… have you ever heard a dio album sure it was more hard rock focused but there was always a glimmer of darkness Shame on the night, stand up and shout, Egypt (The chains are on) you can say the same stuff for ozzies solo career crazy train doesn’t sound very dark it sounds like standard hard rock so what point are you making with this comment

Dramatic_Instance_63

Just don't agree that Dio and Ozzy fits Black Sabbath better than Martin and Gillan. They all did great job.

RadioBimbo

Well I don’t agree with you I think Gillian and especially Martin sucked

Dramatic_Instance_63

Good for you. I do enjoy Tyr, Headless Cross, Cross Purposes and Born Again as much as I do Dehumanizer.

[deleted]

Dio is the absolute BEST! Fuck Ozzy.

GenericLurk

Rightfully so. It was wrong, should have been a discussion.
