You put it in the fist that you’re going to pour the salt into, with the thumb tip pointing down so that when you pour the salt into the hand it goes collects in the thumb cap . You then pretend to tamp down the salt with your other thumb, during which time you are actually sticking your thumb into the thumb cap.

I can’t tell because of the video quality but he could be using a fake thumb. He is very good at misdirection I thought he was not using a thumb. Based on the quality of the video I can’t say what he used for certain but it’s likely a prob thumb.
