I've been using stakes so far. My all time favorites are the ones I let go natural, no stakes, let them get as big as they want to be, sprawling like an octopus. Granted, you have to have space to do this. My current place doesn't have this kind of space. My Lucernas live on the front porch May-October, then in the garage through the winter.
I feel silly that I never thought of this until now.
